Interesting. Sounds more and more like Miller then as Price is only after Joshua for one last big payday.

i'm not sure why everyone goes on about mandatory. there is one thing being ranked number one then being mandatory.  the number 1 can become a mandatory by fighting number 2 on list, if number 2 doesn't want to fight then you move to the next guy. you can go as low as number 10 for a mandatory. most 2's don't take the fight as they wait to go number 1 after a successgful or unsuccessful attempt by current number 1. then they try hook mandatory for them selves so they arnt bent over a hay bale in negotiations.   this then forces the a title fight every 9 months in the heavy division. the only reason they ordered a mandatory for haye was it was vacant title so wanted a quick defence to settle the division down. being a mandatory just allow a bit of say in the fight purse. I think the right thing to do is have easier voluntary defense so he continues to grow. I see price as perfect for this as the guy has been KO'd 3 times. he will be cheaper then the rest and he is well known in UK. business first  sport second n this game.
Please not Price
Team Parker will take the fight that allows them to fight in NZ or Samoa against the opponent they want with the money they want to pay their opponent.
David Price in the running to challenge WBO heavyweight champ Parker; Jarrell Miller, Hughie Fury also on shortlist

James Slater - December 21, 2016 4 Comments

Newly crowned WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker is lining up his first title challenger for April 8, and there are at least three names in the running for the shot. Parker could fight a British foe in David Price or Hughie Fury, or he could face unbeaten New Yorker Jarrell Miller.

According to a piece on Sky Sports News, who spoke with Price, Parker’s people are keen on “showcasing” Parker in the UK, and would therefore prefer a British challenger for April. Bob Arum, who was quoted as speaking with Boxing Talk, said the April challenger will be either Price or “Big Baby” Miller.

Price spoke with Sky Sports and he is very much up for the fight with the unbeaten New Zealander.

“My management contacted me and said would I be interested in fighting Joseph Parker,” former British champ Price said. “I obviously said of course. It’s a fight that was supposed to happen this year on the [Anthony] Joshua card (against Eric Molina on December 10). I’ve already agreed to fight them before and now he’s world champion, it makes it even more of an attractive proposition to fight him now. Now I’m just waiting for news. I’ve got plenty to show which hasn’t been shown. I’ve been written off by a hell of a lot of people. That’s just amazing to think that it’s a possibility, considering where I was 18 months ago.”

READ Joseph Parker says he'll fight Anthony Joshua “any time he wants,” but it could be Hughie Fury next for the new WBO champ
Price, for all his perceived shortcomings, can punch very hard and as far as a first challenger for the still improving Parker, the former Olympian makes a good opponent. So too do Fury, unbeaten, and Miller, unbeaten. Fury is still young, yet he has proven skills, while Miller is a huge heavyweight with proven punching power.

Who would you rather see Parker make his maiden defence against? With Deontay Wilder set to return in February, with Parker to fight in early April and with Joshua and former king Wladimir Klitschko ready to rumble at the end of April, the first quarter of 2017 is shaping up as an interesting time for the heavyweight division.
any of those 3 would be OK as a maiden defense. I don't see any of those guys being worse than Dominic Brezeale or Eric Molina.

Actually if's he's anything like Joshua or Wilder then Parker should fight Molina next

Price or Miller according to Arum....

Good find. Jarrell Miller is like Whyte but with a ranking. Miller would sell well in Vegas. Price wouldn't sell as a main event in the UK very well, and why would you put the WBO champ on an undercard? If they have April 8th set, they must have a place and venue.
