Wilder planning to trim back team

Following his loss to Tyson Fury, former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is planning to remove all the “non-good” people from his team. “I am getting rid of all the snakes in the grass,” vowed Wilder on a recent Premier Boxing Champions podcast. “This time it has allowed me to dig into the brush and see what was going on…we are going to form an excellent team with great people once everything is back to normal. The Green and Gold belt will be back in the ‘Bomb Squad.'”
Boxing: Eddie Hearn name-drops lists New Zealand as possible host for Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury heavyweight bout

Eddie Hearn has name-dropped New Zealand due to low coronavirus cases.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has name-dropped New Zealand as one of three possible countries to host an undisputed Battle of Britain heavyweight bout between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

Before global sport was shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic, Joshua, the IBF, WBA and WBO champion, was set to defend his belts against Kubrat Pulev in June, while Fury, the WBC champ, was due to fight Deontay Wilder in July.

But the demand to watch Joshua against Fury and according to ESPN, Eddie Hearn is talking to MTK Global - Fury's advisors - who are negotiating on behalf of his co-promoters Bob Arum and Frank Warren.

Hearn downplayed the negotiations, but admitted there have been talks about potentially convincing Pulev and Wilder to step aside, adding that there have been approaches from Saudi Arabia to potentially host the event, but it's not the only country that could host the fight.

"We don't know which territory will be allowed to implement a live audience," Hearn told SKy Sports UK.

"For example New Zealand has zero [coronavirus] cases and Australia very few. Certain countries can start up sooner than others.

"We would love to bring AJ-Fury to the UK but in December that doesn't look like a possibility.

"We're talking, we're moving in the right direction, we've all got the same mindset to create the biggest fight in boxing history between two British world champions for the undisputed heavyweight championship.

"You will get this fight. It's just a case of when and where.

"There is a financial barrier to overcome but we have to ride that wave in the short-term.

"We want to stage major shows behind closed doors because it will be ground-breaking and innovative. The plans are illustrious. I don't want a TV studio with no atmosphere. We want to create a unique moment, a unique destination."

New Zealand has 1132 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 347 probable, bringing New Zealand's total to 1479, while 19 people have died.

The British Boxing Board of Control is "hopeful" that the sport can resume in July but without fans in attendance, with a maximum of five fights per event and with a pre-tournament medical form, COVID-19 testing and pre-tournament quarantine.

Whyte should have fought for a title, if not for his greed.

Joshua vs. Fury next?

Could a showdown for the undisputed heavyweight championship between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury be in the works? “There is keenness from our side and Fury’s side to go straight into it,” promoter Eddie Hearn told Sky Sports, “but we are both under contract for different fights. No negotiations have taken place. Negotiations can’t take place until we know if Wilder will step aside and if Pulev will step aside…

“As it stands now Joshua’s next fight is Pulev and Fury’s next fight is Wilder. Could a deal be struck for them to step aside? Absolutely. Would we be willing to entertain it? Absolutely. Right now the focus is on the contracts we have signed, and the winners to fight in spring 2021.”
Eddie is confident saying all this as he knows Wilder not taking step aside $ nor is Pulev
Publicity and promoting is all it is

After waiting all this time, Pulev would be crazy to take step aside money, as he may not get another chance. Wilder is on his last legs. He has to redeem himself, unless he wants to be like Parker and beg for fights. Win or lose, Wilder needs to get a big payday. If he wins, he either gets a trilogy with Fury or a unification with AJ. If he loses, he rides off into the sunset with a bundle of money.
Warren open to Dubois vs Wilder within a year

Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren has claimed he’d be willing to match heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois against Deontay Wilder “by the end of the year”. Speaking to Queensberry Promotions’ Lockdown Lowdown show, Warren said a potential bout would be contingent on ‘Dynamite’ first overcoming Joe Joyce.

He said: “If Daniel comes through his fight with Joyce… then yes, by the end of the year yes.”

Deontay Wilder was last seen on February 22nd when he was outclassed and stopped by Tyson Fury in Las Vegas, losing his WBC crown in the process.

Warren believes that in that contest ‘The Gypsy King’ revealed the blueprint to beating ‘The Bronze Bomber’ and that will be Wilder’s undoing in the future.

In later comments to Queensberry Promotions, Warren said: “Tyson has shown how beatable Wilder is. Once their rematch is out the way, I’d have no problem matching Daniel with Deontay.

Wilder is good, don’t get me wrong, but my man will be miles better in time.”

22-year-old Greenwich bruiser Dubois has amassed a fearsome reputation as a devastating knockout artist in his 14 professional scraps to date but his promoter believes it’s his other attributes that really set him apart.

“Daniel’s big and powerful and everyone knows he can punch, too. But he’s a good boxer. I’ve said before that he has a Larry Holmes-like jab and he works the body as well as any heavyweight on earth.

I’ve been telling people how good Daniel is and once the world starts going back to normal, i’ll have no doubt he’ll show you.”

Prior to the coronavirus crisis ‘Dynamite’ was scheduled to meet fellow Londoner Joe Joyce in a mouthwatering domestic clash but has since been hunkered down in a new Hertfordshire pad.

Keeping fresh by training alongside his boxing siblings, Prince and Caroline, Daniel told The Sun on Sunday he was raring to get back to work, saying: “I just want to get on with it.”

While no-one can predict what comes next in these uncertain times, Daniel’s promoter Warren is certain he can predict what would happen if Dubois got to step in the ring with the American Wilder.

“Daniel is the best heavyweight prospect on Planet Earth and he’ll have far too much for Deontay Wilder. I truly believe that.”
Pulev: Joshua can’t face Fury

It doesn’t sound like IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev plans to step aside to allow a showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury for the undisputed heavyweight title.

“He can’t face Fury because he has signed a contract to fight me,” the 39-year-old Pulev told Sky Sports. “Besides, in this same contract there are clauses featuring some serious compensations (if the fight doesn’t happen). In the meantime, Fury has a contract for a third fight with Deontay Wilder. Neither me, nor Wilder will give up on these fights.”
Andy Ruiz Jr finally confirms new trainer in Eddy Reynoso

Andy Ruiz was left bloodied as he lost his world titles in the rematch with Anthony Joshua.
Former world heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr has finally hired a new trainer, agreeing terms with leading Mexican coach Eddy Reynoso.

Reynoso confirmed the deal on Wednesday, saying on his Instagram page: ”Welcome to the team, Andy! Let's give it a good go!”

Reynoso, the 2019 Boxing Writers Association of America Trainer of the Year, has a powerful stable of fighters headed by multiple world champion Canelo Alvarez who was pictured with Ruiz.

Ryan Garcia and Frank Sanchez and current and former world champions Oscar Valdez, Luis Nery, and Julio Cesar Martinez are also on Reynoso's books.

Ruiz has had a troubled time since he caused one of the sport’s biggest upsets with his seventh round knockout of Anthony Joshua in New York last June to win the WBA, WBO and IBF belts.

Ruiz partied hard and long in the aftermath to that and let himself down in his preparations for the rematch in Saudi Arabia last December, losing by a majority points decision.

He sacked trainer Manny Robles in the washup to that and has looked long and hard at his options since then.

Ruiz and Reynoso will star work once the strict rules governing the coronavirus pandemic allow.

"We reached an agreement. When this pandemic is over we will see what is next for him, how we can accommodate ourselves, how he wants to work and what he wants to do. I think he has a future," Reynoso told Boxing Scene.

Reynoso, with his proud Mexican heritage, looks an ideal solution and believes Ruiz still has something special to offer the heated heavyweight division.

Long criticised for his lack of dedication and discipline, Reynolds believes Ruiz’s world champion status proved he has the potential to return to the top.

“Andy showed that he is at those levels,” Reynoso told Boxing Scene.

“They say he is undisciplined, but I think that if someone was a world champion he should have some discipline. Not everyone is equally hardworking or disciplined, but in the end if someone reaches the level of a champion then he has something special."
