Billy Joe Saunders wins WBO super middle belt

In a clash for the vacant WBO super middleweight title, former middleweight titlist Billy Joe Saunders (28-0, 13 KOs) outpointed Shefat Isufi (27-4-2, 20 KOs) over twelve one-sided rounds on Saturday night outdoors at Lamex Stadium in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England. The result was never in doubt as Saunders cruised to a unanimous nod by scores of 120-108, 117-111, 118-110. Saunders picked up the belt formerly held by Zurdo Ramirez, who moved up to light heavyweight.
Just saw these fights for free on Sky Pop Up. Good fights. Both KO's.

Charlo and Rigondeaux score KO wins

Former WBC super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo (32-1, 16 KOs) scored a devastating third round KO over Jorge Cota (28-4, 25 KOs) on Sunday night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. In round three, Charlo dropped Cota, who beat the count but was then almost immediately laid out. Time was 2:14. This was Charlo’s first fight since suffering his first career loss to Tony Harrison last December. Charlo was originally scheduled to battle Harrison in a rematch until an injury forced Harrison out of the bout and Cota stepped in.

In a WBC super bantamweight elimination bout between former world champions, Guillermo Rigondeaux (19-1, 13 KOs) scored an exciting eighth round TKO over Julio Ceja (32-3, 28 KOs). It was a very rugged fight with Rigo and Ceja both more than willing to brawl. Both were deducted points for low blows in round eight by referee Russell Mora. Rigo then dropped Ceja with a huge left hand. Ceja beat the count, but Mora waved it off. Time was 2:59.

Unbeaten super welterweight prospect Joey Spencer (8-0, 6 KOs) had all he could handle with very tough Akeem Black (5-3, 2 KOs) in a six round unanimous decision. Scores were 59-55 3x.

Unbeaten lightweight Chris Colbert (12-0, 4 KOs) hammered out an eight round unanimous decision over Alberto Mercado (16-3-1, 3 KOs). Scores were 80-72 3x.

Unbeaten welterweight KO artist Jesús Ramos (10-0, 9 KOs) went the distance for the first time against a very determined Kevin Shacks (3-4-3, 3 KOs). Scores were 40-36 3x.
who saw the Rigondeaux fight? it was crazy to see him fighting that way
also they just made the Kovalev Yarde fight, its such a step up for Yarde either theyre cashing him out or theyre confident of going to Kovalevs backyard and beating him. I cant see Yarde ending up anyway but on his back. What do you guys think?
Pac vs Thurman? I see Keith ending Mannys career in this fight, if hes able to get in and make it an inside fight I see him getting the KO late. I

They must see Kovalev on the way down or something because this is a huge step up for Yarde. Hope he can do it but I feel like Kovalev still has too much for Yarde.

what do you make of the talk of Canelo/Kovalev? is that a step too far for Canelo? has Kovalev got too much size and power or has he faded too much post Ward that Saul takes him out? I was impressed with Kov in the Alvarez rematch and I think hes far from a spent force

I agree, Kov still has plenty to offer imo and surely Canelo going to LHW is a bride too far unless they do a catchweight. Either way, Yarde and Canelo's handlers clearly see a decline in Kovalev somewhere.
Hopefully this will be on Tuesday nite fights:

Ortiz KOs Orozco in six for WBA gold title

Unbeaten welterweight Vergil Ortiz Jr scored a sixth round KO over Antonio Orozco to win the WBA gold belt and an accompanying world title challenge on Saturday night at The Theatre at Grand Prairie in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Ortiz Jr (14-0, 14 KOs), out of Grand Prairie, TX, and fighting in his hometown for the first time as a pro, came out smoking from the opening bell as he landed a big body shot against former world title contender Antonio Orozco (28-2, 17 KOs) right from the jump. He soon followed up with a flurry of shots in the corner, before Orozco escaped initially. Ortiz got Orozco in trouble later in the round with power punches to the head and body, but Orozco showed his championship mettle by withstanding the initial onslaughts of Ortiz. In the 2nd round of the pro-Ortiz crowd, both guys landed to the body as Ortiz was going for the KO. Orozco went toe to toe with Ortiz who his trainer Robert Garcia called a future multi division world champion.

In the 3rd round, Ortiz worked behind the jab and landed combos and a right hand that stunned Orozco who continued to fire back. Much like his stablemate Jose Ramirez, Ortiz went toe to toe with the veteran Orozco. Ortiz continued to try and land his powerful right hand to end the fight early, but Orozco was not going away easy. It seemed in the 4th and 5th round that Ortiz took his foot off the gas slightly and was satisfied boxing from the outside.

But in the decisive 6th round of the scheduled 12, Ortiz went back on the attack and started landing his powerful combos again to the head and body as Orozco squats low to the ground every time. Ortiz timed it and landed his right hand to open the round and finally dropped Orozco midway through. Orozco got back to his feet, before Ortiz began landing at will and dropped Orozco for a second time. Ortiz smelled blood and finished off Orozco with another flurry of punches and before Orozco could even think to get back to his feet, Referee Mark Calo-oy waived it off. The time of the 6th round stoppage was 2:16.

Ortiz told Fightnews.com early this week, that Orozco was a big rock to climb in his 2nd fight at welterweight. Golden Boy president Eric Gomez also said Orozco was a big test for him and as continued to pass each one in his young career. Ortiz is expecting to fight for a world title in the next 2 years, but after a performance like tonight, he may want to move up that timeline. If nothing else, Ortiz, showed he is ready for his next big test in a division that is stacked with Spence Jr., Crawford, Thurman, Garcia and Pacquiao.
