Smith-Vlasov Final Press Conference

Joe Smith Jr. and Maxim Vlasov faced off in advance of their clash for the vacant WBO light heavyweight world title on Saturday evening at Osage Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma on ESPN.

Joe Smith Jr: “I was 100 percent ready to go back in February, but it’s OK. I had time to enjoy my wedding day and now I’m just ready to go once again. I know what I’m going up against. He is a busy and aggressive guy with a lot of experience, but I have prepared well and I’m going to give 100 percent of myself to come out victorious.

“Becoming world champion and hearing the words, ‘and new!’ it’s going to be an amazing feeling. This is everything I have been working for since I was 15 years old.”

Maxim Vlasov: “I’m sure that you will see no ring rust at all this time. I’ve been preparing well. I’ve been sharpening my skills, and I’m ready to give it my all, 100 percent. I feel the same as a younger boxer who is less experienced because this is a great chance for me. This is a great responsibility, a great risk. I am very excited and motivated for this fight.

“I have taken preparation seriously, watched many of his fights, and learned some things. I don’t like to talk about his weakest or strongest points or divulge any strategies or plans related to the fight.”
Tszyu-Zerafa to collide July 7

By Ray Wheatley – World of Boxing

WBO #1, IBF #3 light middleweight Tim Tszyu (18-0, 14 KOs) will clash with WBA #7 middleweight Michael Zerafa (28-4, 17 KOs) at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre, Newcastle, NSW, Australia on July 7 which will be televised on Foxtel Main Event Pay Per View.

“This is the final piece of the puzzle,” Tszyu told Ben Damon of Main Event. “And after everything he’s been saying and all the disrespect for all these months and years, this time it’s personal. I said I’d take (Dennis) Hogan’s soul. This is more than that. I want to do even more than that.”

Zerafa stated, “The talk stops. Everyone is expecting fireworks with me. He can call me whatever he wants. When I was fighting world class opponents, he was drinking warm milk before bed so it doesn’t matter to me.”
Taylor defeats Ramirez to become undisputed

We have an undisputed super lightweight champion and he is Josh Taylor. In a unification fight for all the 140lb belts. WBA/IBF champion Josh Taylor (18-0, 13 KOs) scores a twelve round unanimous decision over WBC/WBO king Jose Ramirez (26-1, 17 KOs) on Saturday night inside The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. Good two-way action early. Taylor was cut over the left eye in round five. The bout turned when Taylor dropped Ramirez in round six with a straight left hand and again in round seven with a left uppercut. Ramirez was hurt but survived. Taylor backed off the gas pedal after that and it was close the rest of the way. Scores were 114-112 3x. The two knockdowns were the difference.
