David Higgins puts tight deadline on Joseph Parker v Dereck Chisora deal
DUNCAN JOHNSTONE

Promoter David Higgins wants to ensure trainer Kevin Barry and heavyweight star Joseph Parker have enough time to prepare for a proposed fight with rugged Brit Dereck Chisora.

Joseph Parker's promoter David Higgins warns they will "pull the pin" on April's proposed London fight with Dereck Chisora if a contract doesn't materialise very quickly.

Higgins told Stuff on Monday that he wanted action "within the next 24 hours or so" to ensure Parker had the necessary training buildup for a heavyweight fight that could headline a night of action at the O2 Arena on April 20.

Parker, wary of being caught short like he was with a limited training camp for his last fight in London against Dillian Whyte, wants a minimum of nine weeks of preparation – seven weeks in Las Vegas with trainer Kevin Barry and another two weeks to taper off in the British capital where he remains a marketable fighter. That sort of timeframe demands an immediate response.

Dereck Chisora has the size, power and skills to make a difficult night for Joseph Parker.
"Joseph doesn't want another short camp and if time drags a little further then we will pull the pin on that date," Higgins told Stuff.

"Joseph will fight anyone but if Chisora and his team of David Haye and Eddie Hearn want that fight to happen, I need a contract in my inbox within the next 24 hours or so … we are nearing deadline."

Higgins said his good relationship with British promoter Hearn meant the deal could be done without complications.

"Eddie Hearn knows he can make a deal with me very quickly because we made the Dillian Whyte deal at lightning speed," Higgins said.

"There is no problem for Eddie to make a deal but there is some problem at their end because they are not forthcoming with the contract. I don't know whether it's Chisora wanting too much money or maybe Sky TV UK want more on the card to justify pay-per-view? Who knows what's going on but right now it's radio silence from their end."

Higgins said Chisora was too risky to be taken on at late notice, especially with former WBO champion Parker in a rebuild to get back in the title mix after losing consecutive fights to Anthony Joshua and Whyte in the UK last year.

Parker has since beaten unheralded Mexican American Alexander Flores with a vicious knockout win in Christchurch last December but needs a statement performance against a better opponent to really push his cause. Chisora presents that opportunity - if the terms are right.

"The Whyte camp was short, we aren't going to repeat that. Chisora is a dangerous fighter. He has got a new trainer, he swarms with a lot of punches, he has knocked out Carlos Takam …. he's not to be trifled with. Chisora is a serious unit and it's high risk and return," Higgins said.

"If you win it, you are breathing down Anthony Joshua's neck and back to the top; if you lose it, then you are really struggling."

Chisora is already working with his new trainer Dave Coldwell, the former mentor of retired British boxer Tony Bellew and is motivated to get his own career back on track after being knocked out by Whyte last December.

He has signalled he wants to fight Parker. Now it's up to his handlers to ensure that happens as quickly as possible.

Fair enough I guess. It'd be a shame if they don't make the fight though. Both guys want it and it'd be entertaining.

Hope I'm wrong but I've never really seen this fight happening as just don't think there is the money in it for both sides.
Both coming off big loses (can't really count Parker's last win) and Parker isn't anywhere near as much of a drawcard in the UK as the New Zealand media make out. Most of the Uk were impressed with Del boy's win against Takam and he did pretty well against Whyte but they also remember his terrible fights in between and still don't class him as a genuine top 15 contender.
Even with a stacked undercard it won't do well as a main event ppv. It's a great main undercard fight for a ppv or a main event for a Saturday night Sky Sports show in the UK.
If Parker is stopped or easily outpointed by Del Boy he possibly only has the Junior Fa fight left so does Higgins and co want to risk their main meal ticket for a payday that won't be huge????
And you know David Haye will be looking for every $$ he can get for Del Boy so he can keep clipping the ticket with his 10% or whatever he gets.
Hopefully I'm wrong but that's why I think it doesn't happen.

Justafan U may be right, it really isn't a ppv headliner but the guys want $$ so what does EH do? Alot of other fighters are booked so stacking the card maybe tricky.
JP on under card of Whyte v Breazeale?
Or he makes it free to air .. as a reward to UK boxing fans...... probably not

Hearn is trying to line up a co-main event (in any weight class) to make it PPV. I think that's the hold up. Of course then he has to sell it to Sky Sport or whoever will broadcast it. Hearn has said that JP/Chisora can't stand on it's own, and Whyte/Breazeale will be too late to make it happen.

the name of the game is to be in shape 100 percent of the time. Junior weighed in at 115.6 1 week after xmas. his fight on Dec 15th he was 115.4

You are right but my thing is if Duco/Higgins ask for what they think they are worth Hearn could make Del Boy v one of the domestic heavies for much less and probably a pretty similar revenue. Does Parker really bring that many buys against Del Boy on a Sunday morning NZT? Sure he brings a few but a Del Boy v domestic rival would be big but in saying that there is really only Dave Allen available and that's unlikely.

Joseph Parker pulls out of Dereck Chisora fight as stalled negotiations impact training time
DUNCAN JOHNSTONE

Joseph Parker insists he needs a full training camp with coach Kevin Barry to prepare for the challenge that Dereck Chisora presents.
Joseph Parker's proposed London fight with Dereck Chisora in April won't happen after the Kiwi heavyweight's handlers ran out of patience with trying to finalise the deal in time.

Parker will now look to start his year with another New Zealand fight with his promoter David Higgins saying: "We have some good options."

Having controversially lost his last British fight after taking on Dillian Whyte at short notice last year, Parker didn't want to compromise his preparations again for a fight against Chisora which would be crucial to making his way back to the top of the division.

Higgins accused the British camp of skulduggery, believing they were drawing out negotiations to limit Parker's preparations while Chisora was already busy in full training with his new coach David Coldwell.

Hhhmm? This seems a little odd? Would have thought this is the perfect fight to get back in the mix.

Would like to know why he isn't training now and Duco doing the negotiations. Don't see how this can impact on his training time?

If they cant negotiate in time, or at all. This still shouldn't impact on training.
