Joseph Parker
It may be smarter to just hold off on going after the WBO belt and fight the winner of Joshua / Klit. If Parker doesn't hold a belt he should be the next fight the IBF champ has to face.

I agree with Msreef. The IBF looks to have a lot more "top" guys vying for it. If the WBO comes to tiny NZ, it may get undervalued as a belt and lead to a lot of small fights. Even the WBC with Wilder has had this happen to a degree. Got to stay in the main mix with the big guys. But who knows? Anything can happen in this jumbled up division.

Joe is still positioned well.

Yeah, and that worked really well for the WBA didn't it? That mini-tourn was an abortion. The only fight that was made was Browne vs Chagaev and that turned into a farce.

Just bang out the next 2 in line, which will probably be Parker vs Ruiz. The WBO need to follow their own rules regarding the fight for a vacant belt, which Duco clearly cut and pasted from the WBO's own rule book.

I just didn't think Lonergan could waltz in and decide that the Parker/Ruiz fight was for the title. Sure, it was good to push for it, but I didn't think the WBO would go for it. Nice try, though.

But the WBO President has his own issues with a box off. As NakiFan said, it didn't go well for the WBA. But aside from that, if Klit loses, he probably retires. If he wins, he doesn't participate in a box off as there's no need as he'd be the WBA and IBF champ. That box off will NEVER happen.

What to do if you were Parker? I'd fight Price on the undercard of the AJ/Klit fight as they were going to do, and push the IBF to say that as the mandatory, his next fight with AJ OR Klit is for the title. The problem with that though, is that if Klit wins, he may not want to fight his mandatory right away, OR he could retire and there would be an IBF box off. That's why it's important for AJ to win. For Parker's sake. And I'd tell the WBO to go get screwed in the nicest possible way.

Here is the WBO own rules.

SECTION 20. PROCEDURE WHEN A TITLE IS DECLARED VACANT
(a) A World Championship may be lost for breach of contract, for disability to fight or to make the required weight, inactivity, or for any other reason established in the Regulations that govern World Championships, but a World Championship shall only be obtained as the result of a bout duly authorized by the World Championship Committee. In the case that a World Championship is declared vacant, the two Best Classified Contenders Available as determined by the Championship Committee shall be granted a period not to exceed thirty (30) days to negotiate a contract for the vacant World Championship or an Interim World Championship, as the case may be with a duly qualified promoter.

The issue is that it's a grey area, "as determined" might not mean the #1 and #2, or #1 or #3...as it's up to individuals that can get swayed by money.

Frustrating situation.

...or the WBO could then decide next week to have a box-off. They're screwed either way. Better for Parker to go the IBF route if they don't sanction the Parker/Ruiz fight as a title fight.

So Parker could have to go through David Haye for the wbo title?

Oh Duco.......

No, Duco won't participate in a box off. Lonergan said he'd only fight Ruiz if it was for the title. Not an interim title, but a WBO title. Won't happen. He'll go for the IBF winner. That's what I think.

Lonergan needs to know his role.

Regardless on what direction they go, at least they have got themselves into the position that either direction will lead to a title shot...
