Welterweight Dylan Emery, born in NZ but based in Aussie and in fact never fought outside of Sydney. Got a great 17-0 record, does anybody know anything about him? Amateur record?

It has been confirmed Wladamir Klitschko, David Haye and Deontay wilder will be in attendance at the big heavyweight title fight on December 10th
Expect call outs and possible fireworks as the big names try to get at the concensus future of the division

This book is written by a friend of mine, Denny Enright. Very well written and brually honest book about Denny's amateur and boxing career in NZ. Denny was part of the Tua Tour to Vegas when Tua fought Lewis. This is where I first met him. Denny is now one of the top refs in NZ. Here's a blurb on the WBO website about him:

VADA Testing |

Just noticed Boxrec has added whether or not a fighter is enrolled in VADA testing or not on its fighter bio. Interesting going through the top heavyweights to see who is not enrolled. Luis Ortiz, Anthony Joshua, Derek Chisora, David Haye, Erkan Teper and Tony Thompson.
Is there a reason why most of the british fighters are not enrolled and does it cast suspicion over a fighter if they are not enrolled when fighters who have been caught before are also not enrolling.

What will 2017 hold |

It's a messy picture
Parker I think wins the WBO, but I think Duco will want to generate some easy money from it. I can see a defence against someone like a Szpilka followed by lucas browne. Safe fights that especially the browne fight will make money.
Joshua I'm really not sure, may fight klitschko in summer which I see him winning, then probably an easy voluntary.
Wilder, jeez please fight a live body but it'll only happen if he's forced.
Then you got Haye who will probably pick up some version of the WBA (I don't see him and Duco agreeing terms on haye v parker)
Ortiz?
Hughie fury?
Izu?
I dunno I'm just not hugely optimistic, I think 2017 will be another year with a muddy picture.

The First World Heavyweight Title Fight in New Zealand |

The first "Official" NZ World Heavyweight title fight being the WBF World Boxing Federation was actually in 1993 at the Mount Smart Super Top. This bout was fought between our own Jimmy Thunder and England's Johnny Nelson. Thunder was the holder at the time previously beating Melton Bowen in Australia. You could easily argue that it may not have been a genuine world title fight HOWEVER the holders off this belt have included such names as Pinklon Thomas; Joe Bugner; Evander Holyfield; the most fabulous South African boxer Frans Boxer. Ironically the last holder was one Carlos Takam in 2013.

Let's plan the night.
To start with we need a rousing rendition of the classic "welcome home" by Dave dobbyn
Then the lights go on and we have the all blacks in the ring to do a Haka
First fight is jeff horn vs someone good.
Then we have a skit with Peter Jackson and some orcs from lord of the Rings and parker kos the orcs and Valerie Adam's throws a shotput at one.
Next fight is junior fa vs someone good
After that we have a musical performance by six 60 singing their classic "roots" song with pictures of young joseph on screen
Then we have izu vs someone good
Finally the big entrance with full war dances and everything, then sam Neil comes out in his jurassic park outfit and drops some classic lines
then lorde sings the national anthem
Then it's parker vs ruiz
And parker gets KO'd in a round

Kovalev-Ward quotes for HBO PPV fight
HBO Boxing - November 7, 2016 0 Comments
You out-boxed Bernard Hopkins in a terrific fight. Do you think you’ll need to outbox Andre Ward to win the fight or is your power going to be the difference?
Yes, my fight with Bernard Hopkins was one of the biggest fights in my career. Bernard is great fighter so I trained very hard for his fight, before this nobody knew I could box. I am training very hard to improve my boxing skills even more for this fight with Andre Ward. I believe I can knock anyone out, but I also believe I am good boxer. If I knock him out it would be great because boxing fans would be very happy, and me too, but I am training for 12 round fight with Andre Ward, because anything can happen in boxing. If I cannot knock him out then I must be prepared to go 12 rounds with him. He is very good defensive fighter, and difficult to hit. My last fight was against Chilemba, he was also very good boxer. He was difficult to hit sometimes but I was prepared to go distance and used my boxing skills to win fight. This fight with Andre Ward is definitely biggest, most important fight of my career and I will be prepared for him 100%.

Andre Ward Blog Part 3: Monday, November 7
This is your third fight of 2016 after fighting only three times since 2011. How easy/difficult has it been for you to get back to rhythm? Is the time off good or bad for a fighter?
It varies for every fighter. For me, the rhythm rushes back the moment I step into the ring. My time off didn’t take a toll on me mentally or physically. I don’t poison my body, I don’t drink, smoke or party, so I never worked against myself. Even in my time off, I remained truly dedicated to the sport. I still spent hours upon hours in the gym, even when I didn’t know when I would fight again. That benefited me because when it was time to get back in the ring, there was no rust. I picked up right where I left off.
Look, I’ve been boxing for 20-plus years. That’s a grind. Breaks like that can really benefit a veteran fighter like me because it afforded me the chance to recharge both mentally and physically.
This is my third fight following my return, and I’m at my peak. On November 19, you’ll see an Andre Ward you’ve never seen before.
