Joseph Parker
That article by Michael Collins disrespects JP. I don't like him!
Minimum bid is a million $$$s. Don't think AJ is in a good position to fight JP with the WBO. But it makes cents financially, and would be marketed well with the rematch, Wembley, and AJ's comeback. I think JP will either fight him or go the low $$$ route and fight someone else in the top 5 for the WBO.

If Parker's team had any real serious backing they would order an immediate purse bid & force Usyk into a decision. They won't, they'll drag out the 30 day negotiation period. I hope it doesn't come back to bite them. The Saudi's can say what they want but Usyk will ultimately decide who he wants to fight next. If he decides to fulfil the mandatory & the fight is scheduled in the best case scenario for 3 months time, that'll make it late November. 2 rounds of action in 20 months is not the best preparation to challenge Usyk. Touch wood an injury doesn't occur, delaying things further.

I'll wait to see what Usyk decides to do next.

Question for you: Can Team JP forego the 30 day negotiation period and go straight to the purse bid? Also, I doubt that Usyk will want to fight before the beginning of '26. He seemed tired, wants to be with his family, and in no hurry. Plus, as you suggest, the longer he waits, the more inaction for JP.

Yeah, either side can call for a purse bid at any time during the negotiation period. Either side can also request an extension. If an agreement isn't reached within the usual 30 days the WBO president can call for a purse bid 10 days after, it's never usually longer than a month after. Once the purse bid is concluded the fight normally has to take place between 45 to 90 days.

Thanks for the explanation, jamieson. I'm assuming that Usyk in particular would rather negotiate rather than go to a purse bid, as he has more flexibility in choosing the fight promoter. Of course, he could, and probably will, go a different route and give up his WBO belt (and eventually others) for a mega $$$ fight. He doesn't need JP for his legacy, and he won't have any belts anyway once he retires after his next fight.
