RE: Joseph Parker - mippy - 10-16-2015 Well done JP he looked good. Thanks for the link Steven RE: Joseph Parker - cranky - 10-16-2015 Yes - thanks Steven RE: Joseph Parker - Boxingfan25 - 10-16-2015 Very Impressive performance by JP. I didn't expect him to dismantle Meehan with such ease he made Kali look ever single one of his 45 years tonight. I think Kali was a bit suprised by the Power of Parker too and he had no answer for his speed. Great victory for JP Speed and Combos won him that fight. I wonder who they put him in against next. Normally you can get an idea of who's coming next but I don't have a clue who he could face in December! Any ideas or whispers? I'd like to see him fight Rudenko and KO him like Lucas Browne and Hughie Fury couldn't... RE: Joseph Parker - Pilgrim - 10-16-2015 There was a youtube up this morning so I got to see the fight. Parker looked good. I'm looking forward to seeing him take another step up in competition. RE: Joseph Parker - shamrock - 10-16-2015 Meehan was stopped by Danny Williams inside the 1st rd some while ago. Good win all the same for Jo but he's still got something to show us before we are complacent in the top ten. RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 10-16-2015 Sorry guys, but I went to bed to watch the fight just as the Horn fight finished, and couldn't give anymore updates. Horn looked really good against an awkward fighter. Sham is gonna kill me for saying this, but I rate Parker in the top 5 RIGHT NOW. Not in an alphabet, but one of the top 5 fighters, along with Klit, AJ, Povetkin, and Wilder. Of course, he needs to fight guys in the top 10 now, but Parker was unbelievable in the fight. Had nothing to do with Meehan being old, as it ended early. Meehan just had no answers: Joseph Parker rates TKO win over Kali Meehan as the best of his young career video New Zealand heavyweight boxer Joseph Parker rates his win over Kali Meehan the best of his blossoming career. Parker floored the veteran with a stunning left-right combination one minute into the third round of their Auckland bout on Thursday night. Meehan wobbled back to his feet but referee Ferlin Marsh waved the fight off without completing the count. "I believe it is the best win at this stage of my career and the fights that he has had in his career," a beaming Parker said after completing the 14th stoppage in his unbeaten run of 16 fights. It was just the fourth time Meehan had been knocked out in 48 fights. READ MORE * Parker destroys Meehan with third round TKO * Willis Meehan wins controversial one-sided bout * Big names behind heavyweight Joseph Parker Joseph Parker shows off his title bouts after beating Kali Meehan by TKO in the third round. Meehan, who had questioned Parker's power in the leadup to the fight, had no complaints afterwards. "It was youth. A young fighter beats an old fighter," Meehan said, explaining the punishment he received from the 23-year-old, who has now firmly claimed the star rights in this part of the world and is ready to push on with a career many see destined for bigger things. But Parker conceded there was still much to learn, even from this fight. "I was too excited early," he said. "I wasn't breathing properly, I just didn't really pick my shots. But when I did slow down, my punches did land, it flowed a lot better." Trainer Kevin Barry agreed: "I was trying to tell him to slow down. Joe felt he was going to knock him out at any stage. I was telling him to just get back in behind the jab. He could have made the fight a lot easier and a little quicker. "I wanted him to pick his punches instead of just letting the bombs go all the time." Parker worked Meehan's body in the second round before returning to his opponent's head with devastating results in the third. Parker had praise for Meehan. "He came prepared and some of the punches I threw in the first round usually knocks out people." Barry also had warm words for his old friend Meehan: "Kali did a lot more than I thought he would. He's a tough warrior. In the last couple of Joseph Parker fights we have seen that when he hits people they go out. Joe hit him with some flush punches in the first couple of rounds and he took them and came back." Meehan wouldn't go as far as saying that was the end of his career but said it was time to concentrate on helping his promising son Willis, who featured on the undercard with a strong win, progress his promising heavyweight career. He had no regrets about a heavy loss that came on the back of a good year on the New Zealand scene, winning the Super 8 and ending Shane Cameron's career. "I had a good run. I've got nothing left to prove. It's his time now," he said pointing at Willis. He felt he had handled Parker's pace reasonably well early on. "I was ducking quite easily but then one or two got in and it changed quite quickly," he said. "This is our sport, it has no mercy. But I had to do it for my own reasons and I've done it. "I take every fight as my last, I don't make big plans." - Stuff RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 10-16-2015 ...and this from the world boxing community: http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/other-sports/73072991/joseph-parkers-enormous-potential-praised-after-tko-win-over-kali-Meehan https://www.boxing247.com/boxing-news/parker-demolishes-meehan-in-three/48201 RE: Joseph Parker - shamrock - 10-16-2015 Take your thumb out of your mouth Die, Jo just annihilated a 45 yr old and you say it wasn't age, I beg your pardon but that was not a prime Meehan... of the old guy had the skill set but the sharpness and timing was just not there. Kali was much better than that in his prime. To rate Jo in top five at this moment after that win is a dramatical headrush and you should perhaps consider seeing a specialist or at least take a holiday... Jo has it all to prove yet even though he looked great doing the business against a guy we know now had no right being there. Leave the headrush until he faces someone on his own level, and I suggest that will never be while he is fighting in hype town down under.. RE: Joseph Parker - faimoko - 10-16-2015 Jo looked really good so high fives and cheers around the table and taxi drivers are happy this morning.. Kali is old slow and only interested in the purse... |
