RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 03-08-2019 Joseph Parker vows to KO Dereck Chisora early for statement win 07:00, Mar 08 2019 New Zealand heavyweight Joseph Parker is eyeing a shot at redemption in Great Britain. Joseph Parker aims to knock out Dereck Chisora early to apply some heat on a sought-after rematch with Dillian Whyte. Parker's return to Britain looks more promising now that a July 13 date has been proposed, allowing the Kiwi heavyweight sufficient time to prepare in Las Vegas for a fight of this importance. Hopes of an April 20 clash with Chisora fell through because Parker felt there wasn't enough preparation time. With both Parker (a unanimous points loss) and Chisora (an 11th round KO) losing to Whyte last year, Parker wants to make a statement to try to get back in the ring with Whyte to avenge a defeat that still stings. Parker (25-2) knows the best way to do that is to look good against Chisora (29-9) on a London card that could be headlined by Whyte (25-1) who is on a nine-fight winning streak and within touching distance of a world title shot. "If I knocked him out way earlier than he [Whyte] did, then it shows there's a lot of improvement from our side," Parker told Sky Sports UK. Parker said he had been continuing to develop the more aggressive approach he showed in violently dismissing Mexican-American Alexander Flores in Christchurch last December. "I've been working on some different training, developing power, so if we can catch him with a clean shot, I'll definitely put him away. "Just some explosive stuff, so hopefully when I do catch him with an explosive punch, and it lands in the right place, I can put him down. It will be a good night." Parker still has Whyte on his mind after losing in controversial fashion, being floored early by a headbutt, knocked down by a genuine left hook and recovering to floor Whyte in the final round of their London clash last year. "Dillian Whyte and I would be great. I would love to rematch him now, but he's got his own plans and once we both take care of business, and he's willing, then we can get it on again," Parker said. Parker's promoter David Higgins has been frustrated at Whyte refusing to engage in any rematch talk but feels the heavy-handed Chisora is a good option to get former WBO champion Parker back in the top mix. Joseph Parker continues to work on the explosive approach that proved so deadly against Alexander Flores. "The only person that has publicly wanted to fight Parker is Chisora," Higgins told Sky Sports. "We give him credit for that, and if the deal is right, we'll come to Chisora's hometown and we'll fight Chisora." May be just a tactic to get Hearn to pay him better... RE: Joseph Parker - bart - 03-12-2019 Whyte has moved on from JP its a W on his record so no need to rematch. Only possibility is as if Whyte cannot find a PPV worthy opponent if he still with Eddie, otherwise that ship has sailed. I still think a PPV EH card headlined by Whyte v .... with Jp v Del on the undercard happens. Just depends on EH getting a decent name for Whyte - if he doesn't Whyte signs to Top Rank / ESPN and goes for Fury RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 04-05-2019 https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/combat-sports/111818813/joseph-parkers-future-up-for-grabs-as-david-higgins-seeks-multifight-deal-on-global-selling-trip RE: Joseph Parker - Kiwi - 04-05-2019 Great to hear it. I agree. Go for the biggest deal possible RE: Joseph Parker - bart - 04-06-2019 Absolutely if the $$ available go 4 it. How long will this sort of $ be around. RE: Joseph Parker - Msreef - 04-07-2019 So no more learning fights? What we've seen skill wise is probably about all we will ever see of JP? Can't help feeling a bit disappointed, but will hopefully make for some exiting fights I guess. RE: Joseph Parker - Kiwi - 04-07-2019 Over the next few years I expect JP to become a bigger physical "beast" overall. Just a 5% or 10% improvement will see him become a huge force in the division. |
