RE: Joseph Parker - craigyid14 - 10-04-2018 Parker would outbox Chisora everyday of the week, if they're interested in fighting him it should be now whilst Chisora is coming off his best win. He'll get beat in his next fight (unless he fights a similar opponent to what's being lined up for Parker). You've got to strike while the irons hot, there are some good heavyweight matchups happening elsewhere. Can't help but think they're missing a trick not fighting Browne. Browne said he doesn't want the fight. But I agree, instead of starting over, stay relevant and fight Chisora. Win, and he's right back in the thick of it. Especially in the UK. BTW, heard LL will be in his camp in the near future, giving advice. Sham loves that. Can't help but think they're missing a trick not fighting Browne. It's always going to happen though, literally everyone in the HW division goes back to fighting average opposition after a few losses. Don't know who to expect here. Maybe Molina? Or if they're looking for someone durable then maybe Wach or Duhaupas? RE: Joseph Parker - African Monkey - 10-04-2018 Hmmm thinking about going along to this. We don't get a lot of boxing down here. The card should include Beauchamp and Morgan as they're 2 local boys to go with Fa. Surely they could get David Light on this card too? RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 10-05-2018 Former heavyweight world titleholder Joseph Parker to fight Dec. 15 Dan Rafael ESPN Senior Writer Former heavyweight world titleholder Joseph Parker will return to the ring on Dec. 15 at Horncastle Arena in Christchurch, New Zealand, his home country, on Dec. 15, promoter Duco Events announced on Thursday. Parker (24-2, 18 KOs), 26, who does not yet have an opponent, is looking to rebound from what has so far been a forgettable 2018 in which he has lost two fights in a row. On March 31, Parker lost his belt by lopsided unanimous decision in a title unification bout to Anthony Joshua in Cardiff, Wales, and then on July 28 he lost a close decision to Dillian Whyte in an action-packed fight in which both men were knocked down and Parker came within in a whisker of a knockout victory in the final seconds. "Whoever they put in front of me I need to get the job done -- and get it done well," Parker said. "Having experienced what it is like to reach the pinnacle of the sport, and then come back down again after a couple of tough defeats, I'm more motivated than ever to get back on top. "I could have and should have won that fight [against Whyte], but that's boxing. It's now time to get back to work. I can't wait to fight again in Christchurch. I've got really good memories from my last time there [a fourth round KO of Solomon Haumono in July 2016]. It's a great homecoming for me." Said Kevin Barry, Parker's trainer: "After a five-year undefeated run that took Joseph all the way to winning the WBO world title we now find ourselves in very unusual territory -- coming off back-to-back losses. Joe has never been in this position before and needs a top performance." Duco Events promoter David Higgins said there were other possibilities for Parker's return, but the team felt it would be good for Parker to fight at home again after the back-to-back road losses. "We had plenty of options for Joseph's return fight after a couple of tough but highly credible losses," Higgins said. "But Christchurch was a clear front-runner from very early on. We've got great partners in the city." The card will also include fights involving New Zealand's Junior Fa (15-0, 8 KOs), 28, a top heavyweight prospect and Christchurch's own junior middleweight Bowyn Morgan (18-1, 8 KOs), 29, and junior lightweight Nort Beauchamp (17-2, 3 KOs), 33. RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 10-07-2018 Watch: Joseph Parker confirms retired champ Lennox Lewis to help him in next training camp, eyeing fight in NZ next Joseph Parker has confirmed his next few steps in returning to the boxing ring with a former world champion and a fight in New Zealand both in his sights. Parker was a guest speaker at today's 25th anniversary celebrations for the New Zealand First political party when he confirmed he had approached Lennox Lewis after suffering his second career loss to Dillian Whyte in July. Lewis had publicly pointed out flaws in Parker's technique but the heavyweight said it wasn't the first time the three-time world heavyweight champion had mentioned his name. "Even before that, we were messaging each other," he said. "He says that I'm still young and there's a lot of space for improvement. He's not saying anything's wrong with our team, just there's a few things he thinks we should work on. "I sent him my number and he's said he'll call me again soon." Parker said he hopes to fight again before the end of this year and will be talking with Lewis about he believes is the best way to snap a two-loss streak. "Everyone gives different advice and everyone gives something that can work. "Our team's great at the moment, we're still learning, but to get the input of someone else, especially someone like Lennox, who's been at the top of the game for a long time, retired champion, it will be good to see what he thinks." Lewis compiled a 41-2-1 record in his 14-year career as a heavyweight and has history with Kiwis already after defending his titles against David Tua in 2000. Parker added he hoped the aforementioned fight would be in New Zealand. "I'm training for another fight that we have lined up at the end of the year and hopefully, we're looking to fight here in New Zealand. "For us, it's just to give to the people of the New Zealand who have given us great support from the start until now." RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 10-08-2018 High stakes for Joseph Parker as he looks to finally crack US market Duncan Johnstone Joseph Parker's full focus is on getting a dominant win at his December fight in Christchurch. Joseph Parker is eyeing the resurgent American market as he looks to fight his way back to the top of the heavyweight division. Parker's comeback from two frustrating losses starts in the humble settings of Christchurch's Horncastle Arena on December 15. It's a long way from the 80,000 crowd in Cardiff or the glitz of London but the 26-year-old hopes it's a stepping stone back to greatness. Joseph Parker had a torrid battle with Dillian Whyte but came up just short in London to drop his record to 24-2. He's adamant he's still relevant to a heated division, despite being beaten by Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte. And while there's still mutual appeal for Parker and Great Britain, he knows big things are starting to happen for heavyweights in the US. Deontay Wilder's clash with Tyson Fury in Los Angeles in December brings the focus back state-side but it's Eddie Hearns US$1b eight-year deal with DANZ, dubbed the Netflix of sport, that has Parker rubbing his hands. The groundwork of doing two hugely successful UK deals with Hearn over the past year has Parker well placed with the outspoken British promoter needing top talent to fuel his ambitious US venture. Joseph Parker and his promoter David Higgins know big opportunities beckon if the New Zealand heavyweight can get back to his winning ways. "I think boxing is going to change with Eddie Hearn opening an office in the US and being able to put on big shows there," Parker told Stuff. "He has good backers. He's happy to work with Duco, myself and Kevin (Barry). Our teams get along well, there is mutual respect and we have a great working relationship." For a fighter who has trained out of Las Vegas since 2013, Parker has only dipped his toes in the US market. He has fought there just twice for victories early in a 26-fight professional career. But he believes he has made a name to get some fame on bigger stages there. "Now that we have established ourselves, we just have to find the right place, the right time and the right opponent and then try our best to make our mark there. "I think the UK is great but there is the US now as well." Parker doesn't want to get ahead of himself though. He has to take care of business in Christchurch and knows a third loss could be terminal. "I have to perform well, very well. If I don't then maybe we will have to sit back as a team and decide whether it's appropriate or not to carry on. "But I don't have any doubts, I know I can do it again. It's a hot division, it's exciting. We belong at the top and we just have to keep proving that now. "I feel hungrier than ever. I feel like this is a fresh start. People write you off and say you should retire, and question your hunger ... but there are goals of being two-time champion, a unified champion. That's still an active goal. I've given myself five years to achieve that and I think we can." Parker says he's motivated by a new pressure enveloping him at this career crossroads. "I think pressure because people want to see if there are improvements, if we have adjusted a few things, have we done things to be better? As I said, I think we belong at the top, now it's about climbing back. It's like starting again, but with the benefit of a lot of knowledge, it's a rebuild." Parker is open to improvements and wants to pick up on the offer of advice from one of his idols, former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis who believes Parker, like he did himself, needs to make some adjustments to succeed in the next phase of his career. Parker would like to see that happen at his Vegas training camp which starts this week. He hasn't discussed this with his trainer Kevin Barry, but doesn't see it as a slight on the veteran Kiwi coach. "I'm a big fan of Lennox Lewis. It doesn't hurt to have a chat and see what he thinks we can improve on. Kev is a great coach, he shouldn't be intimidated. But for me ... someone like my idol giving feedback and wanting me to adjust a few things to improve, that's awesome." Parker's next opponent is still be confirmed with Duco boss David Higgins in discussions with three options. "I don't care who I fight. Look, I'd love to rematch Dillian Whyte again. But I understand there's a process we have to go through. I have to climb again. I just want to fight someone who is good, who will bring the best they have and will challenge me," Parker said. Stuff RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 10-09-2018 Joseph Parker Open To Facing Dereck Chisora, Whyte Rematch As previously reported, former heavyweight world champion Joseph Parker (24-2, 18 KOs) will return to the ring on December 15 with a bout in New Zealand after back-to-back losses this year. The heavyweight's career trajectory suffered a nosedive after twelve round defeats against Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte. Both contests were settled on points and Parker remains confident he can become a headline act once again. The opponent for his next fight, which will take place in Christchurch, has not been named but an announcement is expected soon. Parker knocked Whyte down in the final round at the O2 Arena but was unable to get the win he feels he deserved. He's more than willing to get right back in there with Whyte. At the moment, Parker wants to get back in the mix in a big way with a respectable opponent. One thing he doesn't want, is a walkover opponent for his return. "If it was me and I could lock in any fight, I'd fight Dillian Whyte again, I'd fight [Dereck] Chisora, because those guys belong at the top. I'd fight Joshua again. But we're just trying to lock in anyone, anyone with a good record, good experience, someone that's actually going to give me a good challenge. We dont want someone who's just going to come in and get punched over and knocked out," Parker said. And he admits that a major goal is to end his next contest by knockout. Parker has been unable to stop any of his opponents since October of 2016. His last five bouts have gone the full distance. "Yea I want a knockout. I don't care what round it is - one, two, three, four - I want to knock someone out. That's what I want to do, but it's easier said than done," Parker said. RE: Joseph Parker - Steven - 10-09-2018 Right after the Whyte fight I thought Chisora was a good idea. More rough and tumble where Parker would not only have to box, but actually HAVE to control the fight, clinch, protect himself on breaks, not get pushed around so easily. But with a little time, I don't think it is right. Certainly not for a fight where he needs to look good. |
