RE: Joseph Parker - Msreef - 10-15-2016 Ruiz interview: RE: Joseph Parker - Kiwi - 10-15-2016 December 27th in Auckland, eh? Bring it on! Good find on the vid, Msreef. RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 10-15-2016 Excellent! Maybe that's the news that KB was talking about. Can't believe it's settled without the WBO saying it's for a title fight. My guess, if this is done, is that Arum/Duco have inside info from the WBO. RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 10-15-2016 Found out that the fight will not be on December 27th. Someone better tell Ruiz in case he shows up to an empty arena. RE: Joseph Parker - Kiwi - 10-15-2016 What date you got, Diehard? Dec 17th? RE: Joseph Parker - NakiFan - 10-15-2016 (10-15-2016, 03:29 PM)diehard Wrote: Found out that the fight will not be on December 27th. Someone better tell Ruiz in case he shows up to an empty arena. Probably the 26th, makes sense. RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 10-15-2016 Just got the word that it wasn't December 27th. Which makes me think that it's on, but not on that date. Lonergan had said previously that Parker wouldn't fight Ruiz unless it was for the WBO title. The WBO doesn't meet until Thursday, I think, in Puerto Rico. So either Duco has inside info that the WBO would make it a title fight, or confident that they will. So I don't know why KB said an announcement is coming soon when the WBO doesn't meet until Thursday. So I don't know what to think until an announcement is made. RE: Joseph Parker - Msreef - 10-15-2016 Another good interview with Ruiz: RE: Joseph Parker - NakiFan - 10-16-2016 http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/other-sports/85385220/Kiwi-world-heavyweight-title-contender-Joseph-Parker-set-to-become-a-dad Big changes coming to JPs life! RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 10-16-2016 Trainer Kevin Barry says Andy Ruiz has style to suit Joseph Parker as they eye WBO heavyweight title fight Trainer Kevin Barry is confident he will have Joseph Parker primed to handle the considerbale challenge of Andy Ruiz. Kevin Barry is confident Joseph Parker has the tools to handle Andy Ruiz's aggressive style as they eye a WBO world heavyweight title fight. Both camps are continuing positive negotiations towards a showdown in New Zealand. The opportunity has presented itself with troubled champion Tyson Fury handing over his WBO and WBO belts as he lost his boxing licence last week. The race is on to fight for the vacant belts and Parker's No 1 ranking with the WBO puts him in the prime seat with that organisation, whatever route they take in a decision likely to be made at their annual convention in Puerto Rico this week which Duco Events boss Dean Lonergan will attend. * Parker: I'll win world title in NZ Parker's trainer Barry said they had to keep their training options open given the uncertainty of boxing politics but "everything is looking like it's going to be Ruiz". While acknowledging the Mexican's fast and heavy hands, Barry welcomed the considerable challenge that comes in the form of Ruiz. Ruiz doesn't have the massive frame that dominates top end of the division. In fact he has the look of a chubby bully at times, such are his weight fluctuations. Barry likes the feelgood factor in Team Parker as they move on from their 21st consecutive win, a three round demolition of giant Russian Alexander Dimitrenko. "The momentum at the moment is very positive and very strong in our team and we would love nothing more than to make this fight in December," Barry told Fairfax Media from Las Vegas where he has Parker back in camp with his stable mate Izu Ugonoh. "When we look at the options and the way they have presented themselves, I like the style of Andy Ruiz for Joe. "I have a lot of respect for Andy. I know that he is a very skilful fighter, a former Olympian, and is undefeated as a pro. His looks are very very deceptive ... he has very fast hands and good power to match. "He's a fighter that we will prepare very well for but his particular size and his come-forward style are two things I really like for Joe. So as a coach, I like the matchup." Barry said he was comfortable with the time frame in front of him, despite the ongoing uncertainty over an opponent. They had planned to have Parker fighting giant Brit David Price or perhaps get their mandatory called to front for a world title fight against equally large IBF champion Anthony Joshua. But Joshua's decision to chase Wladimir Klitschko in the wake of Fury's demise, forced a clever change of plan to target the WBO route to a title. "We have got plenty of time. We are not panicking or anything like that. I still have some big, tall sparring partners on hold and I have some six foot sparring partners on hold too. So we are covering our bases," Barry said. Parker had done some light gym and fitness work last week after returning to Vegas from his latest Auckland win and he would start boxing skills this week. "We will just go about our work in the gym, go about our skill work, our generic work that really doesn't matter if we re fighting 6ft or 6ft 6in. It's just ticking the body over, getting it ready before we know exactly the path and course we will be taking over the next tow months." The ever-changing boxing world never ceases to amaze the veteran trainer though he stressed it was about maximising the opportunities presented. "No one could really see this Tyson Fury stuff coming. It's really sad. Depression is serious and I hope Tyson Fury will have the help he needs now to overcome this problem and get his excellent career back on track," Barry said. "But this big setback for him has been a huge plus and advantage for us and our team is doing its best to capitalise on that." - Stuff |
