RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 12-12-2015 Maybe. Martin pulled out against Breazeale, so his next fight is with Glazkov. If Glazkov beats Martin, he'll probably move ahead of Parker. If Klit beats Fury in a rematch, he may be #1 or #2 ahead of Parker. According to Stu, if Parker wins in July against ???, he'll maybe be the mandatory. What I like is that it's a lolly scramble for the top 5 fighters getting in position to fight for a belt or else fight for a belt. Lots of exciting fights. If AJ wins tomorrow, he'll want a piece of somebody and a chance at the title. RE: Joseph Parker - gothenaki - 12-13-2015 I guess with Joshua and Parker both joining the lolly scramble for a belt, it doesn't hurt to be ranked by as many Alphabets as possible. Boxingscene seem to be following JP's progress closely http://www.boxingscene.com/joseph-parker-inching-closer-wbo-title-shot--99256 I can see both camps avoiding each other for as long as possible. AJ was in a press conference with Haye, and pretty much confirmed that they will be fighting. Of course I mean no disrespect to Bfan, Naki and others who have mistakenly picked Whyte to win tomorrow.... RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 12-13-2015 Joseph Parker moves ahead of Wladimir Klitschko in world rankings Joseph Parker is closing in on a crack at a world title. New Zealand heavyweight boxer Joseph Parker has risen to No 3 on the WBO rankings ahead of former world champion Wladimir Klitschko. The respected organisation has just released their December rankings, which factored in Parker's first-round demolition of American Daniel Martz, his 15th KO in 17 fights, and Klitschko's loss to Britain's Tyson Fury. Klitschko's shock loss rattled the rankings and eased the pathways to various belts. The upshot is that unbeaten Parker, who has lifted two places from No 5, is well-positioned to push on for a title shot. American Charles Martin is the WBO's No 1 contender behind Fury but he is set to fight Vyacheslav Glazkov for the vacant IBF belt and will drop out of the WBO's top mix. That will leave rising Brit Anthony Joshua the only fighter ahead of Parker in the WBO mix. "What this says is we are probably only three fights away from the mandatory position we covet so much," Dean Lonergan, part of Parker's management at Duco Events, said. "This is the best Christmas present we could have." Parker fights American southpaw Jason Bergman in Samoa on January 23 and has fights planned for April and July in what will be another busy year for the 23-year-old. Lonergan said they were close to a deal with an opponent for April. "We know who we want and we have good offers in. We need to have tough fights for Joe and that's what we are looking to deliver," Lonergan said. Klitschko has dropped to No 4 on the WBO rankings and has exercised his right for a rematch with Fury. Parker is also ranked No 11 by the WBC and 12 by the WBA. - Stuff RE: Joseph Parker - gothenaki - 12-14-2015 I asked Stu Duncan about JP's progress and got this reply which I post with his permission "The game plan was to get Joseph rated across the 4 orgs in 2015 and to use 2016 to get him into contention. In saying contention - I mean position him into a mandatory where a purse bid scenario is on the agenda & obviously this will see Joseph earn more money from this position. With regards to 2016 it has always been the game plan to lift the level op opposition to best prepare him for what lays ahead - you will see his opponent for April and his next fight after that (mid year) will be his toughest tests to date. Joe will rise with the IBF & WBA as a result of his win over Martz and in saying that - if you study the IBF top 10 and picture Parker around 5 or 6 - blind Freddy can see that an opportunity may arise in the next 6 months which would see Joe facing off in an eliminator of sorts to face the winner of Martin vs Glazkov - or maybe even for the # 2 position which is currently vacant. My focus outside of that scenraio is to improve his WBC rating so strong negotiations will take place with a boxer rated in their top 10 in an effort to achieve this also. The WBO is tied up with Fury vs Klitschko and Joe wouldnt be considered as a warm up in between and we have him @ number 3 there regardless .. In my opinion Joe beats both Glazkov & Martin so we will be focusing on this. I also feel he beats Wilder but again - unless Joe is mandatory - they simply wont risk fighting him - thats a given. Chagaev is busy until beyond Browne and there are many others in line - despite the fact i like Joes chances against Chagaev also." RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 12-14-2015 Thanks Gothe, for working this out with Stu. Looks like Stu is all over the show in terms of possibilities, which is where the division is right now. Reading between the lines, looks like he wants an eliminator in the top ten of the IBF, with the winner facing the Glazkov vs Martin. Stu likes Martin over Glazkov, so my guess is that's one reason why they are fighting Bergman in January to get ready for Martin later in the year. So I"m thinking: January--Bergman April--top ten guy in the IBF July--IBF Eliminator for the right to face the Martin vs Glazkov winner Later in 22016--fights for the title against Martin or Glazkov. What do you think? RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 12-14-2015 Here are the top 15 heavyweight fighters in the IBF. Who do you think Parker will fight in April? CHAMPION : Tyson FuryEngland Title won : Nov 28. 2015Mandatory : Aug 15. 2015Defended :Nov 30. -0001 WBA : Tyson Fury England WBC : Deontay Wilder United States WBO : Tyson Fury England SNO Name Country 1 Vyacheslav Glazkov Ukraine 2 NOT RATED 3 Wladimir Klitschko Ukraine 4 Charles Martin United States 5 Erkan Teper Germany 6 Artur Szpilka Poland 7 Steve Cunningham United States 8 Anthony Joshua England 9 Carlos Takam France 10 Joshua Parker New Zealand 11 Andy Ruiz Mexico 12 Bermane Stiverne Haiti 13 Kubrat Pulev Bulgaria 14 Andrey Fedosov Russian Federation 15 Derek Chisora United Kingdom RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 12-14-2015 I think it'll be Teper, assuming he gets past Helenius this weekend. Remember, there is no champ in the IBF, as Fury was stripped of his title for rematching Klit, so Martin vs Glazkov will fight it out for the title in the next six months. Szpilka is fighting Wilder for a title on January 16th. Szpilka is fighting Wilder for a title on January 16th. Yer teper (WBC #9) also fills Stu Duncans plan of tackling a top 10 WBC. Ild like to see Lucas Brown (WBC #6) on their radar but he has Chagaev in March. I think they might like the look of Cunningham, hasnt fought alot of late (just twice in 2015) and hes coming off a lose and a draw, so might be tempted to risk fighting JP to get back on track. RE: Joseph Parker - gothenaki - 12-14-2015 (12-14-2015, 06:02 PM)Ina Mungstit Wrote:(12-14-2015, 04:56 PM)diehard Wrote: I think it'll be Teper, assuming he gets past Helenius this weekend. I just think that AJ has said all along, British, Commonwealth, European then title, so I'm sure his team is after Teper as well. Team Parker could queue-jump though as Team AJ may slow down after the last fight. One thing with the IBF, is Charles Martin got a title fight without fighting ANYBODY. You would suspect there are politic$ involved. JP could beat Ustinov and find himself in a title eliminator if Duco play the game. It's a lolly scramble for sure, but one I am looking forward to. RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 12-14-2015 I believe Teper is undefeated, and Cunningham is not desirable with his record and being KO'd by Fury. Would they really want a blown up cruiser in an eliminator? Possibly, he is ranked. But my guess is Teper. He is ahead of Parker in some alphabets, and behind in others. But Helenius won't be easy...he's on the comeback trail. I would say Szpilka, as he's Polish, and Izu is fighting in Poland in April. But he's fighting Wilder in January, and Parker has a date in CC in April. |
