FACT: That was by far the best BOXING performance we have ever seen from Joshua. He surprised me. He surprised Team Parker.

FACT: AJ is most certainly the best HW in the world.

FACT: Parker hung with him, took rounds off him and looked dangerous all night. NO OTHER FIGHTER HAS EVER DONE THIS.

Give credit to Parker and Barry and Higgins. I am very glad they are staying together - and they WILL improve....
Anthony Joshua explains why he couldn't knock out Joseph Parker in their heavyweight unification fight video

As many had expected, the Kiwis relentless questioning of Joshua’s “glass chin” had the Brit doubting his own abilities.

Anthony Joshua has explained why he couldn't knock out Joseph Parker during their world heavyweight unification fight.

Joshua beat Parker by unanimous points in Cardiff on April 1 to add the Kiwi's WBO belt to his IBF and WBA versions.

It was the first time in 21 fights the 28-year-old British boxing star had failed to knock out an opponent.

Anthony Joshua had enough respect for Joseph Parker's skills to adopt a conservative approach for the first time in his professional career.

Joshua admitted the pre-fight hype from Team Parker around his supposed "glass chin" and talk of the Kiwi's wide range of skills had him doubting his own abilities.

Boxing champion Anthony Joshua leads a boxercise session and discusses his fight against Joseph Parker and the next step: Deontay Wilder.

There was also the distraction of the ongoing talk around a bigger fight with American Deontay Wilder. Joshua decided it was better to play it safe against the Kiwi and adopt a more conservative approach, turning to his boxing skills rather than his noted power.

"When people were telling me, 'Parker is quick you know, he can fight,' I was thinking, 'He can, I'm going to get banged out in this fight'," Joshua told a chat session with fans in London.

"It was a hard situation I found myself in because I was fighting (Parker) but everyone was already talking about the next two fights (Wilder and Tyson Fury) so everyone is thinking I'm going to walk through these guys. I started having pressure on myself and I didn't want to make any mistakes.

Anthony Joshua was content to let his left jab rather than his noted right hand do the talking against Joseph Parker.

"I think I sacrificed my boxing entertainment, that risk-it-all mindset I had. Looking back at my last fight, I lost it in that fight because I was so focused on just boxing performance - hit, don't get hit and control the fight - and there were times in there where I thought, 'Ah let me explode on this guy' then (I thought), 'Woah, woah, I have to think about Wilder next, let me get back to doing what I'm doing' and in a way it was good because now when Wilder steps up, I'm going to take it to him hard."

It's a mark of respect for Parker that Joshua was prepared to rein in his power game and be content to try to fight from the outside behind his significant reach advantage, using a dominant jab.

"For 20 fights I catered for the knockout audience and I said for this one (Parker) I'm going to cater for the boxing experts, stick behind my jab and do it the old school way," Joshua said.

Anthony Joshua forced himself to avoid getting involved a brawl with Joseph Parker.

"And as important as it was to capture the WBO belt, looking back I wish I knocked him out. But then it's set up what's to come next and I'm learning on the job and I'm going to risk it all now."

Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn is eager to move forward with negotiations with Wilder's handlers in an effort to sort out a fight that will finally determine an undisputed world champion in the heavyweight ranks.

With Wilder's powerful but unpredictable approach in the ring, Joshua is already suggesting he will look to fight fire with fire.

"I'm going to go back to fighting with my heart because even I find it boring boxing. I want to just go back to being a bit more gutter and going to war," Joshua said.

"I think that's entertaining but it's difficult because you don't want to lose your belt but at the same time you want to entertain."

End of story!

If AJ went for the KO, he'd be opening himself up un-necessarily.  Instead, he went for the simple, safe option with his reach and jab.

Joseph Parker given respectable rankings after losing to Anthony Joshua

New Zealand's Joseph Parker looks to have decent rankings to work with as he eyes a way back to the top of the world division.

Joseph Parker's first loss has hardly dented his reputation in the eyes of respected boxing publication Ring magazine.

Parker lost by unanimous points to Anthony Joshua, surrendering his WBO world heavyweight title to the Brit who now holds three of the four major titles and most of the power in the glamour division.

Ring magazine, dubbed "The Bible of Boxing", have released their independent rankings in the wake of that performance which saw Parker's record go to 24-1 with 18 KOs.

They had Parker at No 3 and have dropped the 26-year-old Kiwi just one place to No 4.

Their rankings are headed by Joshua with WBC champion Deontay Wilder at No 2. Russian Alexander Povetkin, who has mandatory rights to WBA and WBO challenges, is now at No 3 followed by Parker.

The only major organisation to adjust their April rankings yet are the WBC who have placed Parker at No 5 with similar thinking to Ring though they have Cuban Luis Ortiz at No 4.

The independent IBO rankings have been shuffled and Parker finds himself at No 5 there also.

As reigning champions Joshua and Wilder are not ranked with the IBO. So Parker comes in behind Povetkin, Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev, Ortiz and Britain's Dillian Whyte.

Any of those fighters would be good opponents for Parker as he eyes his next fight which will be designed to move up the rankings and get him close to a mandatory challenging position again.
I think Parker should target Pulev. Tough but winnable, Pulev hasn't fought in a year and is coming back from injury
Dillian Whyte V Pulev under neg
I think 1st fight back JP should target the Asian HW in China?

What's his name? Bob Arum did talk about JP going to China, or parts of Asia, at some point. I remember Chauncy going there several years ago, and he was treated like a celebrity, and huge turnouts at his fights.
Yep can't remember the name of the guy he could fight I actually think there is 2 that are rated. 1 guy is top 10 in 1 organisation so that makes it worthwhile and can only think the $ would be good for JP to go there.
