RE: Heavyweight Division - NakiFan - 02-12-2016 RE: Heavyweight Division - cranky - 02-12-2016 haha.. RE: Heavyweight Division - Infern0 - 02-13-2016 (02-12-2016, 09:06 AM)james5000 Wrote: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/boxing/article-3442788/Anthony-Joshua-verge-facing-IBF-champion-Charles-Martin-Eddie-Hearn-admits-talks-bout-advanced-stage.html If Joshua wins he will have a year to face his madatory, which will be decided parker vs takam However unification trumps mandatory in the ibf, so i expect joshua would defend X2 against cherry picks and then sign a unification with fury for next summer. Joe may find he's frozen out for a while, may be time to look at wilder imo RE: Heavyweight Division - james5000 - 02-13-2016 Getting frozen out may work in his favour tbf, because he still has massive room for development. Even so IBF will force it eventually because that's what they do, WBC could make him wait for even longer. I don't think Joe is 100% ready for a Wilder so he might as well wait for an IBF shot especially if it is against Fury or AJ because the money for heavy's appears to be in the UK RE: Heavyweight Division - NakiFan - 02-13-2016 I really don't think it's bad that Joe has to wait. It would be great to see him really prove what most of us think he can achieve, by dominating the top 20 opponents for another year or so. He would be 26 by then, be battle hard, and ready for a belt if the opportunity arrives RE: Heavyweight Division - cranky - 02-13-2016 No disagreements here. But from here on in, he should be facing quality opposition. Problem is, all of those guys, in the real contender league, require serious money. Also joe needs to be on big cards he is not headlining. Duco is going to have to cede control to take the next few steps RE: Heavyweight Division - NakiFan - 02-13-2016 How can a promoter like Duco compete on the big stage? Do they do a combined deal with other promoters to help finance things? Unless the PPVs that Duco have done over the last few years has infact built up enough working capital to do what the big guys can overseas. You have Dean being the man-about-town doing the talking, behind the scenes you have Martin Sneddon, who is a proven big event manager/ceo and can easily arrange finances and has many many contacts worldwide. I just think that they need another 1 or 2 bigger names to have fighting on the undercards, on different weight classes now that IZU and Horn have moved on. RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 02-13-2016 KB has good connections, and is tight with Kathy Duva. Duco would co-promote the big money maker fights, as he's bringing Parker to the table. Not unusual. He would still do the $40 PPV in NZ. I guess my problem with Joe waiting and fighting top 20 guys is that there's not much difference from 1-20. So why not fight, say a Martin or a Wilder instead of a Szpilka, who was ahead in some people's cards when he got ko'd? RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 02-13-2016 BOXING NEWS McGuigan warns Joshua: Don’t fight Martin By Karl Freitag Heavyweight Anthony Joshua is rated WBC #2 (behind only Alexander Povetkin), WBO #2 (behind only Joseph Parker), and IBF #4 (behind only Erkan Teper who is currently suspended for PEDs, and with the one and two ratings vacant). However, BoxNation boxing analyst, Carl Frampton’s manager/promoter and former world champion Barry McGuigan warns Joshua to steer clear of a proposed bout with largely unproven IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin. Even though McGuigan believes Joshua well might get past Martin and become heavyweight champion, he could pay a heavy price down the line by having to defend against better quality opponents than he’s ready for. The question is, if the #2 fighter with three of the four major sanctioning bodies isn’t ready for a world title shot, who is? Conversely, if Joshua isn’t ready (and granted he has never faced a top ten fighter), why is he rated so highly? RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 02-13-2016 Wilder vs Povetkin in May. This will give us a good idea where Wilder really is. https://www.boxing247.com/boxing-news/wilder-povetkin-may21st-new/52451#more-52451 |
