New Plymouth's Fight Night back with support from Tyson Fury and Joseph Parker

Two gloves signed by Tyson Fury and Joseph Parker will be auctioned as a set at the Crowded House Bar and Eatery Friday 13th Fight Night.
Having twice been frustrated by Covid-related postponements to his Fight Night in New Plymouth, boxing promoter Sam Rapira has been given a hand by Joseph Parker and heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Well, a pair of gloves, to be precise.

The Crowded House Bar and Eatery Friday 13th Fight Night will see former All Black Liam Messam return to the ring on May 13 alongside other professional and corporate boxers.

A full house will have 2000 boxing fans at ringside, making it the biggest event of the year to date for the TSB Stadium.

After hearing about the event, Fury and Parker, both based in England, sent Rapira a signed pair of gloves which will be auctioned off along with other boxing memorabilia on the night.

The auction will fundraise for the non-profit amateur boxing club Box Office Boxing.

Rapira is now finalising plans to have an opponent ready for 38-year-old heavyweight, Messam.

The night will also feature New Plymouth fighters including Louis Duffels Des Forges and Te Kapotai “Te Taniwha” Tohu as well as “by far the most experienced” group of corporate boxers Rapira has produced.

General admission tickets go on sale on Wednesday, April 20.
