Ortiz stops McKinson, KO streak continues

In a WBA welterweight eliminator between unbeaten fighters, Vergil Ortiz Jr. (19-0, 19 KOs) broke down and stopped Michael McKinson (22-1, 2 KOs) in round nine on Saturday night at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. The heavy-hitting Ortiz dropped McKinson with a body shot late in round eight. McKinson went down immediately in round nine and his corner threw in the towel.

The TAKEOVER begins, Teofimo stops Campa

Former undisputed lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez (17-1, 13 KOs) began his “Takeover” of the junior welterweight division with a seventh round TKO against Pedro Campa (34-2-1, 23 KOs) on Saturday night at Resorts World Las Vegas. Lopez progressively broke down and busted up the game Campas, finally dropping him in round seven and getting a stoppage from referee Tony Weeks soon after. Time was 2:14.

Unbeaten 19-year-old junior middleweight sensation Xander Zayas (14-0, 10 KOs) scored an impressive fifth round TKO against Elias Espadas (22-5, 15 KOs). Zayas dropped Espadas in round one, then got a rather quick stoppage from referee Russell Mora with another knockdown in round five. Time was :23.

In a hard-fought featherweight shootout, Jose Enrique Vivas (22-2, 11 KOs) scored an eight round split decision over Edy Valencia (19-8-6, 7 KOs). Scores were 77-75 Valencia, 78-74, 77-75 Vivas.

Unbeaten junior lightweight Andres “Savage” Cortes (18-0, 10 KOs) cruised to an eight round unanimous decision against Abraham Montoya (20-4-1, 14 KOs). Scores were 79-73 3x.

U.S. Olympian middleweight Troy Isley (7-0, 4 KO) took a six round unanimous decision against Victor Toney (6-2-1, 5 KOs) by scores of 60-54, 59-55, 59-55.

U.S. Olympian featherweight Duke Ragan (7-0, 1 KO) won his sixth straight unanimous decision against previously unbeaten D’Angelo Fuentes (7-1, 4 KOs). Scores were 58-56, 58-56, 59-55.

Super lightweight Omar Rosario (8-0, 2 KOs) outworked Esteban Munoz (6-2, 4 KOs) over six rounds, 58-56 3x.

Lightweight Charlie Sheehy (3-0, 3 KOs) topped Juan Castaneda (2-0-2, 0 KOs) in a four-rounder by scores of 40-36 3x.

Estrada defeats Cortes, retains WBC franchise belt

WBC franchise super flyweight champion Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada (43-3, 28 KOs) won by a harder than expected twelve round unanimous decision over unheralded Argi Cortes (23-3-2, 10 KOs) on Saturday night at the Centro de Usos Multiples in Hermosillo, Mexico. In his first action in 18 months, Estrada easily won the first three rounds. Cortes repeatedly connected with right hands in round four. Cortes bloodied Estrada’s nose in round five. Estrada got serious in round seven, dropping Cortes and landing numerous huge shots. After that, Cortez lost interest in toe-to-toe exchanges with el Gallo and mostly tried to box from outside as Estrada stalked. Scores were 115-112, 115-112, 114-113.

After the fight, it was announced that Estrada will fight Chocolatito Gonzalez in a rubber match on December 3.

Late sub De Los Santos SHOCKS Valenzuela

Opening the pay-per-view telecast, Dominican lightweight Edwin De Los Santos (15-1, 14 KO’s) made a statement by stopping previously unbeaten José “El Rayo” Valenzuela (12-1, 8 KO’s) of Seattle, Washington by way of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico in a wild one. Off to a fast start, Valenzuela and De Los Santos exchanged, later in the round the Dominican fighter caught Valenzuela with a straight and stopped his momentum. What a wild round it was in the second, as Rayo dropped De Los Santos to begin the the second round but shortly after De Los Santos returned the favor as he sent Valenzuela to the canvas. De Los Santos dropped Valenzeula a second time to begin the third. He beat the count but De Los Santos finished him off at 1:08 of the third. De Los Santos replaced former world champion Jezreel Corrales on short notice and made the most of it! Valenzuela was a 10:1 favorite.

A disappointment if this fight doesn't come off. I would like for Benn to smash him.

Yeah I think Jnr is declining but it is a tough weight for him and the rehydration clause - seen others struggle before
