Not true, bopman. Abs are a muscle like any other muscle in the body, and is definitely influenced by genetics. And as you say, diet, as well as working the muscle by exercising it. But I agree with everything else you say. If his shoulders and elbows have wear and tear beyond a typical boxers soreness, he's not working out right. A physio can only minimise the damage. My take on it: he's over-training, not eating right to develop his muscles, and not using the right exercises to maximize his strength and mimimise his injuries. I put it all down to KB, who's responsible for managing his training.
Totally agree die. Sometimes elbows etc need a long layoff to improve to a start again point. Even though for most part I coached rather than box I always suffered with both elbows and had cortisone injections from time to time but never healed anything while blunting the pain. You can only use cortisone about 3 times in the same place before an adverse effect causing weak tissue. I had the problem with constant pad work. Weights can flame things up as well.
