Takam camp wants rematch with Joyce
Ahead on all three judges’ scorecards at the time, heavyweight Carlos Takam is outraged at what he believes was a premature stoppage by referee Steve Gray in Saturday’s clash with Joe Joyce.
Takam stated, “Joe Joyce was punching at me yes, but I see that he was getting really tired, so I tried to keep my hands up, that was my strategy, to come back after he was tired and put him out. He stopped the fight and I ask [the ref] Why? Why? I used my experience, I know what I am doing, but he stopped the fight.”
Takam’s promoter Joe DeGuardia added, “[Takam] was alert. You could see in his eyes he was aware of what was going on, and was defending himself. While certainly a factor, it’s not just about whether a fighter is throwing punches back. When you have an experienced veteran fighter like Carlos, who is clearly winning an important heavyweight fight, it’s important to get it right.
“The referee must also know who is in that ring, his acumen, experience, basically his ring generalship. These are things that must be taken into consideration in order to make the right call. Unfortunately for Carlos tonight, we believe the wrong decision was made and that he was alert and defending himself while waiting to launch his counter-attack at the right precise moment. We think a rematch is warranted.”

Pretty much a crap shoot for mine. Parker didn't look good vs Chisora (I thought he lost). And I see Chisora and Joyce being similar, big, come forward fighters with power. All depends on what Lee has done for him at this point. Like Takam, Parker should be able to pot shot and hurt him. But today's Parker, who knows?

Yeah its really up to JP and Andy lee. If you have stamina or concentration issues JJ is a horrible night out.. If JP is comfortable stinging him with jabs movement and sharp combos over 12 then he takes it. Sounds straight forward doesn't it... JJ has an engine reasonable but not in any way devastating power - a bludgeoning type puncher. If you watch his jab it has a push to it which looks like it would frustrate alot.
I would like to see JP KO Chisora then call out JJ for WBO mandatory spot

I hate push jabs. I prefer jabs that snap, with the intention of hurting the opponent if it lands. Like a Larry Holmes jab. Or Ali. I assume Joyce uses it as a way to move forward, and follow it up with a right? Didn't affect Takam, who was hurting him.
Chisora CAN be ko'd. That is, if JP developed some power.

Covid KOs Washington, Coffie gets new foe
Unbeaten heavyweight Michael Coffie (12-0, 9 KOs) will now face Jonathan Rice (13-6-1, 9 KOs) in the main event of Saturday’s FOX telecast from Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Coffie was originally scheduled to face former title challenger Gerald Washington, who was forced to withdraw after a positive COVID-19 test.

Wilson aims to upset Hunter at MSG Aug 3
WBA #14 Mike “White Delight” Wilson (21-1, 10 KOs) will face WBA #6 heavyweight Michael “The Bounty” Hunter (19-1-1, 13 KOs) for the WBA Continental Americas title and a WBA title eliminator main event on August 3. The site of the event will be the historic Madison Square Garden (MSG) Theater in New York City. Their original June date in Miami was scrapped when the lightweight championship clash between champion Teofimo Lopez and challenger George Kambosos Jr. was postponed after Lopez tested positive for coronavirus.
The new date now opens up an opportunity for both Wilson and Hunter to shine on FITE and the Triller app platform at the historic MSG on the first installment of the new monthly series by Triller titled “TrillerVerz.”
Wilson a decorated amateur, showed he could fight at the next level when stepped up in class versus former world champion Denis Lebedev a few years back. He fought valiantly in that his only professional defeat by respectable decision. He will now look to make a name for himself by upsetting Hunter knowing a win could catapult him into another major heavyweight fight.
What adjustments did you have to make in training with the date change?
We just had to scale back for a week or two and then start pushing back harder so we can peek right at the right time
How do you feel about the opportunity provided to you by Triller to fight on their platform and in the historic Madison Square Garden?
It’s a great opportunity to get exposure throughout the country and to top that off fighting at Madison Square Garden where all the greats fought. I couldn’t be happier.
You more than held your own versus former world cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev. Do you feel the experience gained from fighting a world class fighter will work in for your favor versus Hunter?
Yeah. Anytime Fighting experienced guys like Lebedev just makes you better. I’m in great shape and ready for Hunter.
Does it motivate you more in training entering this fight as the underdog?
Yes, for sure. When you’re coming in as the underdog you’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Do you feel physically stronger fighting now at heavyweight versus when you were a cruiserweight?
Yes, I don’t have to cut weight in preparation for the fight so I feel way stronger in all my training session and I can push harder.
Where does your nickname come from?
Coming up in the National ranks I spent most of my time training in Colorado Springs at USA boxing camps and that was the name the boxing coaches and my teammates called me and it just stuck.
How would you describe your style of fighting for those who will be seeing you fight for the first time?
I feel like I’m a smart and crafty boxer I’ll get down and bang if I have to and I make adjustments when needed.
What would an upset to Hunter and opportunity to move forward on the Triller platform mean for your career?
It would be huge and bring the opportunity of some big fights!! Hunter is in the top 5 in the world and beating him would put me right in the mix and open up some big doors.

Rice: When I got the call, I was ready
25:1 underdog Jonnie Rice (14-6-1, 10 KOs) was expected to be cannon fodder for unbeaten and world-rated heavyweight contender Michael Coffie (12-1, 9 KOs) in the main event of FOX PBC Fight Night. But Rice didn’t read the script. “I wasn’t a late replacement,” said Rice, who came in on 48-hours notice. “I was waiting for an opportunity. We replaced someone, but we weren’t late. We were right on time. I was training every day. I was training with Michael Hunter. I did 20 rounds, 10 and 10 last Friday before I got the call. So when I got the call, I was ready.
“Honestly, I didn’t expect to overwhelm Coffie like that. I knew Michael Coffie from his fights, but not because he had a great record but because he was a sparring partner for Deontay Wilder. In my head, I played the little game that I was Luis Ortiz’s sparring partner for his second fight against Wilder. So technically it was Luis Ortiz’s vs. Deontay Wilder’s sparring partners. We’re going to see what happens. I was playing with that in my head. I had to fight a little bit like Deontay Wilder and then a little bit different. That’s what the game plan was.”
Rice concluded, “I want it all. I want what every boxer wants. I want to be world champion. I understand that my record doesn’t say that, but I want the world to watch my progress. I’m not in the right mind to be calling people out. I’m just going to be ready for the opportunity and when it comes I’m going to answer the call. I’m going to get as much money for it as I can. And you know one thing, I’m going to put on a show.”
