You're right justafan, I think it's probably his best attribute as a fighter - Once he jumps in he has the mindset to rise to the occasion where most would crumble under the pressure.
I think that at a certain point in your career it stops being about a calculated path to the top, you just have to put yourself out there and dare to be great - That's where he's at IMHO....

PS I think he becomes a no 1 contender for the WBC if he wins.... creating a classic matchup with Joe Smith Jnr (he just shocked the world beating Fonfara)

I see Gvozdyk stopped Change of opponent Karpency in the 6th round, seems if though Gvozdyk was dropped in the first though.

Eleider Alvarez fights Robert Berridge this Friday

Premier Boxing - July 25, 2016 - 1 comment.

QUEBEC CITY (July 25, 2016) – Unbeaten contender Eleider “Storm” Alvarez (19-0, 10 KOs) will take on hard-hitting Robert “The Butcher” Berridge (27-4-1, 21 KOs) in a 10-round showdown Friday, July 29 on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike from Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Canada.

Berridge replaces former world champion Chad Dawson, who was forced to withdraw due to a shoulder injury.

Televised coverage begins at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT and is headlined by light heavyweight world champion Adonis “Superman” Stevenson batting brawling contender Thomas “Top Dog” Williams Jr. in a world title clash.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Group Yvon Michel (GYM), start at $50, and are on sale now. Tickets are on sale at Videotron Centre, GYM (514) 383-0666 or at Champion Boxing Club (514) 376-0980.

Additional action features undefeated rising contender Immanuwel Aleem (16-0, 9 KOs) taking on once-beaten knockout artist Demond Nicholson (17-1, 16 KOs) in a middleweight bout.

A trio of local talent rounds out the night as 2012 Canadian Olympian Custio Clayton (8-0, 5 KOs) faces Sylvero Ortiz (34-17, 16 KOs) in an eight-round welterweight bout, Quebec heavyweight Eric Martel Bahoeli (11-6, 7 KOs) takes on California’s Avery Gibson (7-5-3, 2 KOs) in an eight-round bout and welterweight Sebastien Bouchard (13-1, 4 KOs) taking on Mexcio’s Alejandro Herrera (14-3-2, 5 KOs) in six-rounds of action.

A 2008 Colombian Olympian fighting out of Montreal, Alvarez defeated fellow top contender Isaac Chilemba in November 2015 to solidify his spot amongst the top light heavyweights in the division. The 32-year-old owned victories over previously unbeaten Ryno Liebenberg and Andrew Gardner plus triumphs over veterans Edison Miranda and Alexander Johnson heading into 2015. Alvarez was impressive in stopping Anatoliy Dudchenko and giving Isidro Ranon Prieto his first loss leading up to the bout with Chilemba. He takes on the 31-year-old Berridge who has fought professionally since 2009 and was undefeated in his first 16 pro fights. The Albany, New Zealand-native picked up victories over Sefo Falekaono, Andrew Robinson and Togasilimai Letoa.

Born in East Meadow, New Jersey but fighting out of Richmond, Virginia, Aleem was introduced to boxing from a young age by his parents. Since turning pro in 2012 at age 18, the 22-year-old has wiped out all of the competition in front of him. In 2015 he dominated Emmanuel Sanchez, David Toribio, Oscar Riojas and Carlos Galvan before defeating once-beaten Jonathan Cepeda in April. He takes on the 23-year-old Nicholson who has already earned two victories in 2016. Fighting out of Laurel, Maryland, Nicholson has won seven straight fights entering this July 29 matchup.
