There might be some guys in the top 100 that would take the offer. I think the promoters would be trying to keep costs reasonable for an undercard bout. As you said earlier, perhaps an Aussie (or a kiwi) reduces travel costs & having to accommodate an opponent for a longer period to acclimatise. What's on offer is probably not worth it for Floyd Masson but he is rumoured to be fighting John Parker at the end of July anyway.

I think team Nyika also want an opponent that can rebuild his confidence. He took a nasty KO & will have been out 6 months by fight time. They'll want to see how he reacts to punches & hopefully get some rounds in. Nik fits that bill.

No one has said that Nik is the only fighter that would take the fight but he's a realistic option for what's probably being offered & for Nyika to shake off some of the demons from his previous defeat against.

I haven't doubled down on Charalampous at all. He just seems a realistic comeback undercard opponent. Again, no one said he is the ONLY one that would take this fight for the money. You said it was "Sad. A mis-match" & although I agree that a healthy Nyika should dominate Charalampous, I see him as a realistic opponent for what's probably on offer & to gauge where Nyika is at. I simply asked you since you thought it was such a mis-match, who you would suggest as an opponent that would be willing to take the offer. You & I don't know who else team Nyika reached out to but I'm sure Charalampous wasn't the only fighter on their list.

Nyika can disparage Charalampous all he wants. The question then becomes then why are you fighting him? He's right though, if he loses to Nik he should retire.

Thanks for your very thoughtful response. I guess my concern is more with Nik than Nyika. At his age, his general lack of training off and on throughout his career, and the fact that he's going against a beast in Nyika concerns me. He's only been stopped once, and fought some tough guys, so I'm hoping Nik does well.

I realise that it's an undercard fight, but I just thought Mr Higgins and Nyika could find a better opponent for the money on offer.

  • Troy Pilcher faces a tough challenge against Kris Terzievski, with the WBA Oceania and WBC Continental Bridgerweight titles on the line.
  • Mose Auimatagi Jr steps back into the ring in an intriguing light heavyweight clash against Clay Waterman.

Firth Set for Suva Showdown – July 19
Rising light heavyweight Oliver Firth (5-0, 5 KOs) continues his old-school schedule with a fourth bout in just three months, taking on undefeated Fijian prospect Samuela Naqari (2-0) at Vodafone Arena in Suva, as part of the Zeg Kings Boxing Promotions: King of the Ring event.

Beauchamp Plans to Stay Unbeaten – July 26
Kwahli Beauchamp (3-0, 2 KOs), a rising flyweight prospect and 2026 Commonwealth Games hopeful, returns to the ring on 26 July against Thailand’s Jakapong Detpong at World Siam Stadium in Bangkok, looking to remain unbeaten and gain valuable experience in the professional ranks.

Puohotaua, Heywood, and Heavyweight Rematch Feature on Masson–Parker Undercard
The undercard of the Floyd Masson vs John Parker event on Wednesday, 30 July at Brisbane Powerhouse is stacked with Kiwi-born talent. Undefeated light heavyweight Jahzia Puohotaua takes on Jack Gregory, while heavyweights Frank Amato and Jeremiah Tupai-Ui run it back in a rematch following their razor-thin draw in May. Also featured is former New Zealand middleweight champion Marcus Heywood, who faces rising Australian standout Callum Peters in a trans-Tasman showdown.

Busy Stretch Continues for Firth & Morini – August 1
There’s no slowing down for Oliver Firth, who is set for his fifth fight of the year just 13 days after his scheduled bout in Fiji. He’ll face Mandela Ale on August 1 at ABA Stadium in Auckland.
Also returning on the same card is fellow Peach Boxing standout Sonny Morini, with both prospects looking to continue climbing the domestic ranks.

Thanks for this, jamieson. This is excellent. I sometimes scan boxrec for NZ events that are upcoming, but this gives a great overview for July.
