It sucks but doesn't surprise me.
They'll spring this sort of money for all blacks games etc but not for the world title.
Any reason this fight couldn't be put on at Mt smart or even eden park?
The gate would go a long way to covering costs

Saw that. Mr Higgins says his instincts tell him that he doesn't think it's true. Thai Castle? How could it not be true? At Lorde's booth, we'll sell her CD's, posters, photo op, AND, she'll sing the national anthem. Gotta be true.

But seriously
It does suck that the government wont come to the party
How much would they rake in tax alone , especially if more big fights were staged here
Duco reckon they are still trying to raise the dosh to have the fight in NZ
Good on them I hope they can swing it somehow

If timing is the issue to get sponsorship money by the Dec 10th, then why don't they put it back a couple of months like Arum was asking?
Im sorry, Im the biggest boxing fan in the world (and involved in NZ Boxing) but for Duco to ask for taxpayer money so THEY can make a profit, is absolute bollox!!
I want JP to be having this in NZ more than anything, but something doesn't add up to me. Why don't they put it back a couple of months... are they hiding something??

Because Duco has the Auckland 9's on in February and the 10's (Rugby Union) in March. It would have been smart to work out a partnership with the government several years ago and build from there. Not the special event fund per se, but maybe go in with the Tourism Board.

Can you imagine if the fight happens in America and Joe gets robbed on the cards

Joe has said a number of times he wants to fight until 30 then retire. I'd say even if he loses, he'd go all out to fight regularly and fight capable opponents over the next years to come.
