Duco Boxing - diehard - 11-20-2014

Chris Martin--Boxing needs Sky Arena and Duco to get the necessary profile and exposure for our talent...Its been a long hard road for trainers like me trying to get things rolling...I welcomed the big promoters...hope it keeps growing...good to be back here...been on a journey of self discovery so to speak..hope all are well..

Diehard--Big promoters equal big fighting events equal a windfall for everyone. Trainers get more jobs, fighters fight better fighters at bigger events, and the pundits get to watch exciting fights. Hopefully, everyone takes a step up. And $$$.

In the past, it would be Tua or Cameron and little else. Bring on the big promoters. But keep a few smaller ones for local events.

I must say it is doing wonders for our local boxers (in NZ) here in Australia. Getting some exposure and have had quite a few of my Aussie work mates always keen to watch our talent. Good to see Australia showing those fights too. I was surprised when they showed the Parker fight here and now the super eight.

Great thing about aus/nz is that both countries can claim most athletes and be pitched as such... The number of times a kiwi is pitched as an Aussie or vice versa.. Depending on the audience ... Look at the Meehan articles on either side of Tasman right now as an example...

One month out and still no opponent for Parker. Do you think they're waiting for volunteers? Buttabean is fighting twice that nite:

It doesn't bode well for the event. Sounds like they struggled to get a decent fighter. I can't think of why else you'd not disclose who he's fighting until a month out.

RE: Duco Boxing - diehard - 05-15-2015

I thought Lonergan went to Vegas for the Pacman vs Money fight to make contacts...bottom line: no top 20 fighter is going to come to NZ, in Parker's backyard, and risk their career for the money. Fringe fighters, such as Minto, Sherman Williams, Pettaway, yes. But not legitimate contenders. Unless they are hard-up for money, which some of them might be.

Not usually one to brag (usually because I have nothing to brag about) but seen as everyone got a goo laugh at my expense for missing the point that Parker's opponent would be named in the week after the Manny v Floyd fight I feel like I've had the last laugh...

But c'mon where is the opponent???

Tomorrow there is 43 days to the Palmy fight. Two reasons for no opponent yet a) they are still struggling to get someone or b) the guy is very average and they want to try an sell as many tickets before they name opponent... I don't have a c)???? does anyone else?

RE: Duco Boxing - justafan - 05-15-2015

On Duco, yes that pull some dumb crap but looking how much boxing is in the mainstream media these days. This sort of thing didn't even happen when Tua was at his peek without Duco and Sky Arena that wouldn't be happening.

RE: Duco Boxing - tm7 - 07-13-2015

I was re-reading this article which says Jeff Horn is going to be fighting in Brisbane in October against a world-rated opponent - http://m.couriermail.com.au/sport/boxing-mma/brisbane-boxer-jeff-horn-ready-to-bring-huge-fight-to-his-backyard/story-fni2fnkz-1227397678990?sv=715c9e3fb5a366d3c1d6d0a4da8b2d02

Well, we know that Jeff is fighting on the Parker undercard on October 15, so will he then fight twice in short proximity?

Just an idea, but what are the chances Jeff headlines a card in Brisbane against a quality opponent, possibly with JP on the undercard against a guy like Solomon Haumono who has just been given a return fight; then a few weeks later switching it up with JP headlining against a big name in Auckland while Jeff fights a guy like Gunnar/Cairo/Anthony?

I know it's unlikely, but it seems it's either that, or they were just talking shit in this article...

I would not be suprised by this. It's only a matetr of time until they look to fight Horn on Oz and growing the following of Parker to Oz is a no brainer. What really makes me think you are close to right is I would guess that October 15 date has been locked in for a long time so its hard to imagine the oz fight was thought of when they did not know the nz date.
