Lopsided unanimous points decision to Spence. Garcia brave but outgunned in all departments. Spence called out Pacman in the post fight interview but the one I really want to see him fight is Crawford, now that would be a decent scrap!

Saw the fight free in Oz, as I'm in Sydney at the moment. Spence won every round, and the fight was close to being stopped several times. But man, Garcia has got some heart. Here's the fight news story:

Mikey: He showed me he was the better fighter

By Miguel Maravilla

Former world champion and four division world champion Mikey Garcia (39-1, 30 KOs) of Riverside by way of Oxnard, California came up short Saturday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas as he challenged IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. (25-0, 21 KOs) of Dallas in attempt to become a five-division world champion.

“What a show it was. I fought hard and I tried hard. It didn’t go my way, credit to Errol,” Mikey Garcia said at the postfight press conference. “I did my best to come out on top. He showed me he was the better fighter.”

Garcia entered hostile territory fighting in Spence’s hometown and dropped a one-sided unanimous decision.

“He showed great boxing and had great power. I wasn’t hurt at any point. I took some good shots, it’s boxing,” Garcia said. “I’m still happy with my performance. Overall it was a great experience. This is what boxing needed. Two pound-for-pound fighters. It’s not often we get these type of fights,”

Mikey mentioned he will sit and discuss with his brother/trainer Robert Garcia and father Eduardo Garcia to discuss his future plans.

“I’ll go back and talk with my brother and dad. There are other names and we’ll go back and see what options we have. Maybe go back down to 140 or 135…I would love a fight with Lomachenko. At 135 that’s an interesting fight!”

Promoter Richard Schaefer said, “Man the guy showed balls. He tried and came up short. He dared to be great. Tonight it didn’t go his way and he will be back.”

Spence: Mikey’s arrogance put a chip on my shoulder

By Jeff Zimmerman

Errol Spence Jr Post Fight Quotes:

“It’s been a long training camp. It was frustrating. Everyone knows I’m a low key guy. If I don’t have a fight coming up you’re not gonna see me. This was something new trying to sell these PPV buys.”

“So many so-called experts were writing me off. Tonight I just wanted to show that I do have boxing ability. I can box. I can use my jab. I do have a high boxing IQ. There was a reason I was an Olympian and wanted to prove I could do that.

“Mikey has a lot of heart. He prides himself on being a tough Mexican fighter. He didn’t want a stoppage…I felt he wasn’t difficult at all. Have to credit my coach for a great game plan.”

“I felt insulted during training camp that people were saying he was smarter than me and I felt insulted that a lot of these reporters were agreeing with them. Top guys like Sugar Ray Leonard and other guys were going for Mikey Garcia. Guys like Marquez and Barrera were going for him. Tyson and Leonard saying Mikey Garcia was going to win and that kinda rubbed me wrong too.”

“Nothing but respect for Mikey. I just felt throughout the press tour that he was a little bit too arrogant…his arrogance put a chip on my shoulder.”

“If Manny Pacquiao doesn’t want to fight, I’ll smoke Shawn too.”

Trainer Derrick James: “The jab was the key element. Told him to keep the jab in his face so he has to think.”

Just watched that Spence v Garcia fight. Man Garcia has a hell of a chin! It really was a one sided win for Spence and it showed why we have weight classes in boxing. Garcia needs to go back down to his normal weight of 135 as he looked quite chubby and slow in there.

I think that was the problem, Garcia's weight gain was fleshy. Spence looked ripped.

Spence is also a massive welterweight and could easily operate at 154.

Just watched Tevin Farmer v Jono Carroll. Thought it was much closer than the judges had it. I had it 115-113 to Farmer. Entertaining little scrap worth watching.

Peterson had a good career. I can remember when he and his brother started out in DC, after being homeless as teenagers. Hopefully, they both made some money boxing:

Peterson says goodbye after suffering crushing loss

The boxing career of one of the legendary champions from the Beltway region came to an end at MGM National Harbor Casino in Oxon Hill, MD as Washington, DC welterweight and three-time former world champion Lamont Peterson was knocked out in the 10th round by Sergey “Samurai” Lipinets of Beverly Hills, CA in the main event of the card at the MGM National Harbor Casino in Oxon Hill, MD.

After the bout, Peterson announced his retirement to the crowd and to viewers watching on FS1. “It’s been a long career but today is the day,” Peterson said.

The bout was fought at close range throughout with Peterson being very successful with his body shots early. In the fifth round, the bell rang prematurely before time was up but neither boxer seemed to be affected.

In the second half of the bout, Lipinets took control. Lipinets started to land the more telling blows and in the 10th round, he landed a solid right hand that made Peterson stumble. Lipinets would throw a series of blows that dropped Peterson to the canvas. At the same time, Peterson’s trainer and father figure, Barry Hunter, threw in the towel and leaped into the ring to hug Peterson, forcing referee Harvey Dock to stop the bout at 2:58 of the 10th.

Peterson’s career ends at 34-5-1, 17 KO’s and he is one of six Beltway Boxers to hold three or more world titles in the four major governing bodies (WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO) joining Sugar Ray Leonard, Simon Brown, William Joppy, Mark Johnson and Hasim Rahman. Lipinets, himself a former world champion, is now 15-1, 11 KO’s.

This was a tough night for both Peterson Brothers. Super lightweight Anthony Peterson battled Argenis “La Tormenta” Mendez of Yonkers, NY to a 10-round draw.

Peterson spent most of the bout on the outside moving side-to-side. Each man took turns initiating the action but neither gained a strong advantage in the exchanges.

Judge John Gradowski saw the bout for Mendez, 96-94 while judge Larry Hazzard, Jr. scored the bout for Peterson by the same score. Judge Paul Wallace saw the draw at 95-95.

Peterson is now 37-1-1, 24 KO’s. Mendez is 25-5-2, 12 KO’s.
