Ruiz defeats Ortiz in WBC eliminator

In a WBC heavyweight eliminator, former unified champion Andy “The Destroyer” Ruiz Jr. (35-2, 22 KOs) defeated longtime contender Luis “King Kong” Ortiz (33-3, 28 KOs) by twelve round unanimous decision on Sunday night at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Ruiz dropped Ortiz twice in round two, but the 43-year-old King Kong survived. The pace slowed until round seven when Ruiz dropped Ortiz again. Scores were 113-112, 114-111, 114-111.

Can't believe the scorecards. The judges had Ortiz winning the fight except for the knockdowns. Man, Ruiz can take a punch! And his counters were a sight to behold.
Wilder/Ruiz would be a great fight.

Ortiz punch resistance is bad - Martin had him falling as well, thought Ruiz may have got him out when he dropped him twice but Ortiz actually hurt him. Both guys then became cautious pretty much from then on.
Ortiz time as a contender is done Ruiz can still cause some issues for the top 5

Ruiz' boxing intelligence is high, and he hits harder than Usyk. Ruiz wouldn't be out of place in that fight if he got disciplined. I hope he does what he says, and fights at least one more time this year. That'll keep him in better shape. He did that before the AJ fight, only fighting three months apart, and we all know what happened there.
