WBO #2 Horn targets Pacquiao in 2017
By Ray Wheatley – World of Boxing
WBO #2 welterweight Jeff Horn (15-0-1, 10 KOs) could set-up a WBO title shot against world champion Manny Pacquiao in 2017 if he defeats WBO #8 Ali Funeka (39-5-3, 31 KOs) at the Vector Arena, Auckland, New Zealand on December 10 in an undercard fight to the vacant WBO heavyweight championship bout featuring WBO #1 Joseph Parker against WBO #3 Andy Ruiz. Horn was impressive in his most recent contest in October when he performed a boxing clinic against Rico Mueller stopping the game and durable German in nine rounds. Funeka stopped Justice Addy in three rounds in July and challenged for the IBF 135 pound title in 2009 losing a close decision to Nate Campbell and a draw against Joan Guzman.
Top Rank CEO Bob Arum will be sitting ringside on December 10 with Duco Events promoters Dean Lonergan and David Higgins and if Jeff Horn is impressive against Ali Funeka the former London Olympian could be considered as a challenger for Manny Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight title in 2017. “Jeff Horn is a really good fighter,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum. “Horn belongs in the top echelon of the division. He has to perform well on December 10 and I can then evaluate him based on the other welterweights.”
