Klitschko Needs WBC Strap says Lennox Lewis
Olly Campbell - November 22, 2015 - 9 comments

Former undisputed heavyweight champion, Lennox Lewis, has warned Wladimir Klitschko that the ‘clock is ticking’ on him achieving his ambition of bringing the WBC heavyweight title back into the Klitschko family fold.

WBA/WBO/IBF champion, Klitschko, defends his titles against British challenger, Tyson Fury on Saturday night, and should he come through that fight, will eventually be seeking to win the green belt once owned by retired older brother, Vitali, an ambition Lewis says is of crucial importance to his overall legacy.

“No matter what Wladimir has to arrange, he still has to get this one [WBC] belt,” Lewis told Die Welt. “If he does, he should say goodbye to boxing. It would be the perfect end to a glittering career.”

The WBC title is currently held by oft-maligned American, Deontay Wilder, who will make another voluntary defense in January before meeting mandatory challenger, Alexander Povetkin, sometime around May 2016.

However, with Klitschko now 39 years old and 11 1/2 years undefeated as a professional, Lewis has issued a word of caution regarding just how much time the Ukrainian has left at the very top in order to capture that WBC trinket – despite his signing a recent 5 fight deal with RTL – warning that the body eventually betrays everyone.

“He will reach the point where he can no longer punish himself in training like a 20 or 30-year-old,” Lewis said.

“You reach the stage when you can’t just jump out bed and flog yourself. Also the risk of injury increases. The biological clock is ticking and it happens to be the toughest rival.”

Speaking about Saturday’s fight with Fury, Lewis sees a big Klitschko right hand ending matters at some stage, provided the champion stays patient.

“He must have patience,” said Lewis. “At some point, the moment will arise where you can use the big right.”

Klitschko/Fury is on HBO (US) & Sky Sports Box Office (UK).

Fury: ‘I’ll Make Klitschko Look a Fool’
Olly Campbell - November 22, 2015 - 37 comments

Tyson Fury has promised his fans that he is out to ‘humiliate’ long-dominant heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko, when he challenges for the Ukrainian’s WBO/WBA/IBF heavyweight titles in front of a 56,000 capacity crowd at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany, this Saturday.

The 6’9″ Fury is the mandatory challenger to the WBO portion of Klitschko’s crown and has promised that he has a packed bag-of-tricks to unleash on the ‘safety-first’ champion, whom he has accused of being boring and one-dimensional in an entertaining build-up to the fight.

“I will make him look an idiot. I will make him look a fool and humiliate him in front of his own 60,000 crowd,” Fury said to ESPN.co.uk. “I will humiliate him before stopping him. I’m not going to points, I’m going to stop him.”

Not known as a one-shot KO artist, Fury believes that variety will be his key to achieving this, and that along with Uncle and trainer, Peter, they have developed the right strategies to employ on the night and get past Klitschko’s ram-rod jab and land their best shots.

“This fight is going to be won doing many things, changing it up all the time, not giving him the chance to get into his routine or game plan. Changing it all the time is the key and that’s what I will do.”

Klitschko, as usual, has remained publicly unruffled by any of the antics from his British challenger, and will enter the fight a considerable favourite with the bookies, with many predicting that despite his advancing years, he will still find a home for his concussive big right hand at some point in the fight and put Fury to sleep.

Yet the challenger is undeterred by such things, and promises that whatever happens he is there to fight, and one thing he won’t be making is any excuses if things do go against him.

“If I have got to go out on my sword trying to win, I’m better off doing that than losing on points, trying to not win and making excuses afterwards.

“You’re better off getting carried out than faffing around.”

I think the fight will be won not by Klit's right, but by his left hook.

The fight will be won by Tyson Fury. Look how bad Jennings made Klit look through his movement and tactics. Now Klit is up against a 6'9 Giant who can box southpaw and orthodox and MOVE. The guys got Skills and you all need to pay him some Credit but il let you all do that after the fight! And for those who don't yet know the fight will be screened Live on Sky Sport 2 on Sunday Morning 8am-12pm.

Meaning free to Sky Sport subscribers, BoxingFan25???

Fury's big problem in this fight is twofold: Klit is way better as a boxer, and Fury can't take Klit's punch.

To Fury's credit, he'll match him in size, and he'll bring it. That's what I like about the match-up. Most of Klit's opponents are too timid and give him too much respect. Well, Fury is not respecting him in the build-up. Let's see if he can match it in the ring.

Yes Die Free to Sky Sport Subscribers. I'm just so excited for this Fight! I love Tysons attitude how he's going there to Win and how he would rather get knocked out trying to him then settle for a points Loss. That's the attitude of a true fighting Man. Bring it home Fury!

Yep, got it. I also like his attitude. Only way he, or anyone else, can beat Klit now. What I'd like, regardless of who wins, is a rock 'em sock'em fight from start to finish.
