Joseph Parker
Just a thought. While Tua was with KB, did KB EVER wrongly match him? I don't think so. Which makes me think that he wouldn't match Meehan with Parker unless he was pretty certain Parker would win.

I think Meehan has a punches chance. He's been round a long time and rolls with punches very well. The speed will be an issue with Meehan but if can endue this for 3 rounds or so, he will get into his groove and make this a tough fight for JP.

Meehans tactics will be to try and walk through JP's jab and get close and spoil. This way he can land his trade mark big right hand, and use his size to upset JP's rhythm.

I really think this will be a good fight for JP, these will be quality rounds in the bank that will be invaluable when he comes up against younger bigger opponents when he's competing for a HW Title.

Danny, how much do you you consider Kali is past his use by date, does his 45years nullify any chance of beating JP, or do you consider JP just too good on all counts regardless of the timing factor and Kali's walking stick...?

Good questions Sham.... Kali has come a long way since the days of fighting out of Glen Youth Boxing Club and then Avondale with the Raeli's. Kali was a dedicated student of boxing from a young age and fought some real battles in the amateurs. But he never really came to fruition until he turned Pro and went to Australia.

Kali (in the late 90's early 2000's) was a big man at the time and used his height and reach very well. he climbed the rankings of the HW division and as we all know got the title shot he deserved. The decision was controversial but that's boxing.

Kali surprised me how easily he took care of Shane Cameron. He proved to me he is know push over even at 45 and is a whiley old pug who isn't finished just yet.

JP is probably a better all round boxer than Kali, but Kali has that experience that you just can't buy!! Kali has a punches chance if he's able to last more than 5 or so rounds.

Win or lose for Kali is really irrelevant for his next steps in his life. Its now about showing NZ (and Aussie I guess) that he really was a great fighter.

don't under estimate experience and age! I would prefer Leapai over Kali..

Wish Kali had gotten a meaningful fight after Cameron. Parker has a tendency to want to slug it out when hit. He WAS hit a couple of times vs Tupou. KB told him to back off, and that's when he boxed and KO'd Tupou. My point being, that Kali is experienced, and will try to draw Baby Joseph into exchanging.

Great reply Danny thanks. Somehow Shane Cameron just dropped the batten some time before the Meehan fight Im thinking, maybe when he underwent all that weight shifting and mismanagement in the Danny Green fiasco...from then on he did'nt really figure in the heavyweights, getting so easily beaten by Minto was a yardstick.

Fai, with my age and experience I guess I should give you a good whooping should I venture up to the dump one day...what do you think...lol

Oooh sorry about the dump reference fai, I know you've worked up and in the office now lol. Just feel Kali is the best for the job right now with his height and experience despite the 45 years of age being a huge disadvantage in this fight with the young gun. Had all the attention from KB and Duco plus the financial advantage enabling precision conditioning and sparring not been forthcoming to JP as is the case with most of his opponents to date, and probabliy Meehan, I see this fight in the best terms for JP on those conditions and in terms of Meehan's height and experience but a huge mistake for Meehan other than coin in the pocket. As Danny suggested, Kali has a chance if he's still there after 4-5 rounds.... but wait a minute, JP is gathering momentum with long shots from range....if it were JP Vs AJ well yes, AJ has advantage...maybe as die says Kali can draw him in? Strange request of the taller man albiet..

Well, if Kali hasn't taken a fight in a year since Cameron, why not? As for JP, he needs to fight someone this size if he's gonna step up. If he wins, it might help his ranking, but he IS facing a guy who's not ranked. These days, you can never fight a guy in the top ten and get ranked in the top 5. Ask AJ. No disrespect to him, as he seems to have the goods, just saying.

Seems Parker is fighting everywhere next year, Duco seem keen to tell anyone and everyone he's coming to them soon - http://www.scene.co.nz/parkers-promoters-eye-resort/324206a1.page
