Sounds like AJ and Hearn don't really want the fight.

I can't understand it. AJ is clearly superior to Parker, and Parker would need the fight of his life to beat him. But if it's just money, it's just stubbornness and greed on both sides. Hearn is offering 32%. Mr Higgins wants 35%. How about if Parker wins, he gets 40%. If AJ wins, Parker gets 30%. Performance based.

To be fair this is boxing we are talking about.

AJ just unified the ibf and wba in april. So by normal standards we cant expect another tough fight for at least 2 years.

Joseph Parker says unification fight deal with Anthony Joshua 'close to being locked in'

Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker are on a heavyweight boxing title fight collision course.

Joseph Parker believes he's close to sealing a world heavyweight boxing title unification fight deal with Anthony Joshua, and Cardiff's Principality Stadium is gaining traction as a March 31 venue.

Negotiations continue to have WBO champion Parker and WBA and IBF champion Joshua clash with only the percentage points over the split of the purse holding up proceedings.

Parker, who wants 35 per cent of the net profit, told ESPN he believed they were making progress and he was confident a fight would eventuate.

Veteran boxing promoter Bob Arum, who has a business interest in Joseph Parker, is backing the Kiwi's chances against Anthony Joshua in a fight he believes will happen in Cardiff in March.

"Negotiations are going good. I think we're close to locking something in. They're stuck at 30 percent [of the split], we're stuck at 35, so it's just finding the middle ground," Parker told ESPN on Monday (NZT).

I think the Joshua fight can go ahead early next year when both teams are locked in and happy.

"When we can find a free date, a time in March, then we can definitely make it happen.

"We'll take 35 per cent, which means Joshua will take 65, which is nearly double me, so I think that's a fair deal because he's the bigger draw card and he has two belts and I have one. I think that's reasonable and fair.

"I think we're very close. I'm excited as it's a chance to showcase my skills in the UK more."

Parker believed a unification fight had the potential to be bigger than Joshua's blockbuster scrap with former champion Wladimir Klitchko at Wembley earlier this year.

"The Klitschko-Joshua fight was a great fight. A legend and an up-and-coming fighter going at it. It was a great fight for all of us to see," Parker told ESPN.

"But there's just something special about a unification fight. We haven't had a unified champion for a while, and there's something special about a unification. I have a good feeling about this."

British newspapers on Monday (NZT) were nominating Welsh city Cardiff on March 31 as the preferred venue and date. That holds 78,000 fans and means a massive pay day beckons.

The latest revelations back up earlier claims by Bob Arum, the veteran American boxing promoter who has a co-promotional deal with Parker's Kiwi handlers Duco Events to look after the New Zealand heavyweight's interests.

"It seems to me with a little tugging and so forth, they can do 2/3 and 1/3 and that's what I think is going to happen," Arum told the Los Angeles Times, also believing the huge Cardiff stadium, with its retractable roof, was the likely venue.

"I give Parker a shot with Joshua. Joshua doesn't have a chin, man. Parker, you can hit him with a baseball bat and nothing happens.

"Now, I don't say Parker is the second coming of [Vasyl] Lomachenko, but he has a really good chin. He's a tough guy, and he hits OK. Joshua's been hurt in a lot of fights. I don't demean him, but Parker has a hell of a chance."

Anthony Joshua finally ready to 'overpay' Joseph Parker to seal unification fight deal

Anthony Joshua seems ready to give Joseph Parker a decent share of their unification fight purse.

Anthony Joshua is set to agree to a heavyweight unification fight deal with Joseph Parker and "overpay" the New Zealander.

Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn finally seems willing to concede some terms to Team Parker to get the fight done, confirming Cardiff's 78,000 seater Principality Stadium is the most likely venue for March.

"We're close," Hearn told Sky Sports UK. "We're at a stage now where we're having to compromise on certain points that we don't really want to, but ultimately we're going to have to because if you want to fight Anthony Joshua, these guys - they want to be overpaid.

New Zealand promoter David Higgins and his WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker have been holding firm on their demands from a fight with Anthony Joshua.

"He is the golden ticket fight, the 'Willy Wonka' golden ticket fight that everybody wants and unfortunately for him, it's going to mean sometimes taking a deal that isn't right," Hearn said.

"My job is to represent Anthony Joshua and to deliver the deals that are right. We're not just going to roll over and let them tickle our belly and give everything away, but we ultimately understand that we're going to have to overpay Joseph Parker to get that unification fight," Hearn said.

"We need these belts, there is no secret, and they know that as well.

"It is the right fight for everybody and I think we'll get it made. But we'll see over the next week or so.

"It's close. We're probably a couple of percent away from making the fight but that's easier said than done,

Hearn wants the fight details sorted out by Christmas.

Parker's promoter David Higgins has been steadfastly sticking to his claims of a 35 per cent split of the net profit. It appears Hearn has been offering 30 per cent to the Parker camp and they are now working towards common ground between the two figures.

"Parker's demands are unrealistic, but we're going to try and make it happen," Hearn said.

Joshua is adamant he wants to unify the division in 2018.

Joshua has the IBF and WBA belts and Parker has the WBO title. American Deontay Wilder owns the WBC version and is demanding a 50-50 split with Joshua for a fight further down the line – provided the big Brit still has his hardware.

"We need these belts, there is no secret, and they know that as well. Anthony Joshua's pure aim is to become undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. To do that he has to beat Joseph Parker and Deontay Wilder," Hearn told Sky Sports.

"The Wilder fight is in dreamland at the moment, with his demands. The Parker fight is very close. Hopefully, we can get that over the line before Christmas, pick up the WBO title in March, and then move on for the big one against Wilder for all the belts on the line.

"Deontay Wilder is on cloud nine. I mean he's never fought anybody. You've got to understand, Anthony Joshua is making 10 times per fight what Wilder is making, and he wants to make the same money that Anthony Joshua is making in that fight.

"I understand. Wilder is on relatively low money, he's not a draw in the US right now. They all want the Joshua fight. It's everybody's cash-out fight.

"Our plan is to go and pick up another belt, have three belts going into that fight against Wilder's one, clean him out, and then have it all, be the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world."

Hearn said he and Higgins were discussing some "quirky venues" for Joshua v Parker but acknowledged the need for a large crowd given the unification ramifications. He felt Cardiff, with its retractable roof, was the best option for that time of year.

"Like I said, really by the end of 2017, we must be in a position that fight is done and we're ready to move forward."

Hearn is also trying to fill a February 3 slot at London's indoor O2 Arena.

It appears his heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte could headline that.

Hearn has been in discussions with Australian Lucas Browne for that date and now Hughie Fury, Joseph Parker's last victim, has been calling out Whyte.

Hearn should sign up browne for feb vs whyte and fujimoto vs just any of his heavyweights, maybe dave allen.

That way hes closing off those payday routes for JP.

Whyte could beat browne and i havent seen much of fujimoto but apparently he's awful so im sure hearn has someone who could beat him

Whyte could also lose to Browne on his last showing

Im not sure

Conceed its possible browne springs the win but Browne has mostly boxed in tge first division, is old, is coming off PED's and is highly inactive

Whyte has mixed in a higher class, is young and activeso i have to lean towards him

Whyte is definitely the favourite. Both come to fight. Would be a good scrap.
