By Tracy Morin and Brenden Nasianceno at ringside

Josh Rasberry (0-1) was unsuccessful in his pro debut against Deon Nicholson (3-0, 3 KO) in a cruiserweight bout scheduled for four rounds. From the opening bell, Rasberry caught clean punches from his aggressive opponent, but it was a straight right from Nicholson that crumpled Rasberry in the corner. Though he tried to rise, the fighter was clearly hurt, and the fight was waved off just 40 seconds into the first round, giving Nicholson his third KO win.

Anthony Retic (0-1), making his pro boxing debut, squared off with Thomas Knox (2-0, 1 KO) in an evenly matched middleweight bout scheduled for four. Both fighters landed their share of power shots in the second after a tentative first round; Knox more often worked the body, while Retic found a home for his uppercuts as Knox pressed forward. The rangier Retic tried to use lateral movement to keep Knox at bay, but after four rounds, judges rewarded Knox’s aggression with scorecards of 40-36 and 39-37 (twice).

Heavyweight Robert Alfonso (11-0, 4 KO) needed less than one round to dispatch overmatched Keith Thompson (8-5-0, 4 KO). Alfonso, who represented Cuba in the 2008 Olympics, emerged popping stiff jabs to the head and body, but once he began to throw in combination, he scored three knockdowns in quick succession. After the third, though Thompson beat the count, the referee waved off the bout.
