Eddie Hearn says Anthony Joshua v Wladimir Klitschko talks are 'definitely not done'

Eddie Hearn says a fight between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko is not a formality yet.

British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn insists negotiations for a fight between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko are 'definitely not done'.

Kiwi Joseph Parker is the mandatory challenger to Joshua's IBF world heavyweight title, which goes on the line on November 26 at the Manchester Arena.

The British fighter's opponent hasn't been revealed yet, and following the collapse of Klitschko's rematch with Tyson Fury, Parker's shot at facing Joshua this year has come under threat.

Wladimir Klitschko's rematch with Tyson Fury was cancelled.

Parker fights Alexander Dimitrenko in Manukau on Saturday, which he'll have to win to stay on the path to a world title.

Talks of a fight between Joshua and Klitschko are in the pipeline, after he came into the equation because Fury pulled out of their rematch due to medical issues.

But Joshua's promoter Hearn has quashed reports that negotiations for a bout with Klitschko are complete.

"I've seen a lot of stuff talking about AJ and Klitschko saying that it's done. It's definitely not done," Hearn told Sky Sports.

"We are in talks with Team Klitschko and his manager Bernd Boente. I'm hopeful that the fight can be made if everything works out."

Hearn said to expect an update on Joshua's next opponent in due course, with Parker fighting Dimitrenko this weekend.

"Joseph Parker, of course, our mandatory, fights live on Sky Sports on Saturday against Alexander Dimitrenko. That's on the Nathan Cleverly v Juergen Braehmer broadcast," added Hearn.

"On AJ, we're working hard and we hope to have some news soon. I'll update you when I can."

Good start but I think a life size mannequin of AJ would be more up Sham's alley.

Hearn says Joshua-Klitschko is “almost there,” puts an end to rumors that say Haye will face AJ next

James Slater - October 10, 2016 3 Comments

While promoter Eddie Hearn will not jump the gun in prematurely announcing the big heavyweight match-up he really wants to make, in Wladimir Klitschko-Anthony Joshua, the Matchroom boss has squashed all rumors that, until today, continued to build, saying David Haye Vs. Joshua would happen next for both British stars.

Speaking with Sky Sports, Hearn said that, no, Haye (who recently tweeted that he will be fighting again on Dec 10, a possible date for Joshua-Klitschko if it is made) will NOT be next for the reigning IBF heavyweight champ.

“He’s not fighting AJ but there are rumors he might go the same night,” Hearn said of Haye. “I think that’s a fight that’s not too far away either but the Klitschko fight is the one that really whets the appetite. I just feel it is the right fight for Anthony Joshua right now. He is committed, his training team is committed, I am committed, and I think Bernd [Boente] and Wladimir are as well.”

Hearn, who could so easily have got overly excited and announced Klitschko-Joshua as a go, has instead shown patience, explaining how “there are still obstacles that can interrupt our progress;” even though he remains hugely hopeful and optimistic that the fight WILL happen. Hearn wants to wait until, as he put it today, “all the boxes are ticked.”

So we now wonder who Haye will fight next, either on Dec 10 or on some other date. Haye tweeted how we would “be happy” with his next fight, but with Joshua, Klitschko, Luis Ortiz (next to face Malik Scott), Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury all either busy with another upcoming fight or on the sidelines, just who might it be that Haye will fight next? Lucas Browne is the only realistic and intriguing name still out there for Haye.
