Heayweights Efe Ajagba (19-1, 14 KOs) and Guido “The Gladiator” Vianello (12-1-1, 10 KOs) will meet in a ten round battle of 2016 Olympians in the co-feature for the April 13 ESPN clash between heavyweights Jared “The Real Big Baby” Anderson and Ryad Merhy at American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The eight-round televised opener features three-time world title challenger Robson Conceicao (17-2-1, 8 KOs) looking to keep his junior lightweight world title hopes alive against the upset-minded Jose Guardado (15-1-1, 5 KOs). Conceição, a 2016 Olympic boxing gold medalist, is coming off a draw against three-weight world champion Emanuel Navarrete.

Joe Joyce passes on Euro title fight
For heavyweight Granit Shala (15-0, 5 KOs), the search for an opponent for the European heavyweight championship will start all over again. After Daniel Dubois, Joe Joyce has also withdrawn on the last day before the fight would have gone to purse bid. The Euro title has been vacant since the beginning of the year after Agit Kabayel vacated it. The EBU will now appoint the next challenger for Shala. “It’s really annoying that this fight doesn’t happen either. I would also have loved to bring him to Germany and have him as the second main fight on April 6th in Falkensee before Jack [Culcay’s] world championship fight,” says promoter Ingo Volckmann. “We are currently exploring the possibilities with our matchmaker Hagen Döring and are also talking to Granit’s team.”

Joe Joyce KOs Kash Ali in comeback fight
WBC #12 heavyweight “Juggernaut” Joe Joyce (16-2, 15 KOs), rebounding from two straight KO losses to Zhilei Zhang, scored a tenth round knockout against Kash Ali (21-3, 12 KOs) on Saturday night at Resorts World Arena in Birmingham, England. Joyce, the 2016 Olympic silver medalist and former WBO interim world champion, came in at a career-high 286 pounds and stalked Ali from the get-go. Ali connected with some clean shots, but Joyce mainly bludgeoned him with slow, relentless punches. The end came with just seven seconds left in the fight when Joyce dropped Ali for the count. |
