Joseph Parker

But Kali is/was, by virtue of his successes in the past few years, ranked 27th in the world by boxrec.  Thats gonna change in coming days, naturally.

Those guys don't manufacture ratings. They look at your record, especially your recent record. And, where a guy hasn't changed weight classes, like Kali hasn't, they really aren't that bad. Sure they might give you a little more credit for your earlier career than your current performances deserve, but its not far off.

Kali was exactly the right fight for Parker to take right now, especially given the NZ angle, and ability for our man Higgins to sell it.

I just took a look at the boxrec ratings descriptions part of that website.  Looked at that formula. Plugged in Joes 267, and Kalis current 207...  Its late on a thursday after quiz night at the pub, so perhaps i miscalc'ed, but if i didnt, looks like Joe is traveling to 328+ after this...  that woud make him number 12 in the world on boxrec after this...   wow

But I guess not many of these youngsters face many top 30 boxrec fighters these days on the way up....

OMG...   boxrec just updated.    Parker up to Number 9 in HW division.    what a leap....

That's huge for JP!

As I said previously, although the rankings are flawed, especially on boxrec, they get referred to by the media, and hopefully it gets better fights and $$$ for the fighters.  The fighters just above him are the ones he needs to target:

5 Kubrat Pulev
The Cobra
34 heavyweight  orthodox
Sofia  more

6 ➡
Vyacheslav Glazkov
The Czar
31 heavyweight  orthodox
Fort Lauderdale, Florida  more

7 ➡
Tony Thompson
The Tiger
43 heavyweight  southpaw
Washington, District of Columbia

8 ➡
Erkan Teper
33 heavyweight  orthodox
Ahlen, Nordrhein-Westfalen  more

He's in trouble with any of em just now

Don't know about trouble, but I think if he fought any of the above fighters, it would be a fight. He would not be the underdog. Personally, I would target Glazkov.

Well he should get into a fight with any of em I guess, bu Tony Tucker could be a target, he's 43 and must be slowing down

I think Tony Thompson, not Tucker is the Tony you are looking for. Tucker has been retired for almost 20 years. He's dangerous, a southpaw, with a long reach, and like you say, old. Yes, he's ranked, but I don't know why. Glazkov is #2 or #3 in several alphabets. He's who I would target.

Just had a look at the fight again.  I didn't see Parker too excited or anxious in the first round.  He just took his opportunities.  His defence was much better.  He also got hit with a couple of shots, which took well, in the exchanges.  Meehan looked like Meehan.  He was just outclassed.  Had nothing to do with age.  He has a bad habit of covering up badly, which Parker took as a signal to unload combinations.  Here's the fight:

Parker finds his match from here in after this fight. He fights like a real good strong novice pro. Kalis speed and timing and accuracy were out and he seemed way slow shooting his right. I would suggest he miscalculated in camp using his novice son Willis as sparring partner as also corner mouthpiece.. in other words, didn't train to fight the speedy Parker how he should have. Came in underprepared for this event and of course old.

I also wondered about using his son as his training partner. Too much familiarity, a southpaw, and not as fast or good. Parker is further along than a novice, Sham. He's with the big boys now. KB says he's in his infancy as a fighter. I think he was talking about Parker's potential. Hey Sham, he looked like Ali! Fast, powerful, combos.
