Ok so here goes,
In my eyes my Kali is a lose lose fight for Parker in the eyes of the NZ sporting public. If he wins, oh he beat some old man who is 45 years old, cool so he should.
If he loses, he can't even beat a 45 year old man, he must be shit!
But what it should do is make money.
Kali should take Parker some rounds and provide a stern test so that would have been an attraction but with little reward on offer in terms of rankings or respectability you would think Barry would not have given the ok unless he was very confident of victory.
I can't see Kali going down with the first right hand Parker lands.
I know Kali got sparked out by Williams and Walker but Cameron caught him flush (I think may have been around round 8) with what looked to be a similar punch to the one that knocked out Monte Barrett. Kali's head rocked back but he shook it off pretty easily. And look at the punishment he took against Hasim Rachman.
I see this as being a really good fight and although speed and conditioning should see Parker win it will be tough as I see Kali will be up for this is.
As he says, the average NZ sports fan will only know him for what happens on Thursday night. They don't know who is Lamon Brewster is or even know about a title fight, but they know the hype machine that is Parker. Even most boxing fans will only remember him for his most recent fight.
Kali's best days are behind him, he's 45, but he has not been that active in the last seven years so his body has not been flogged and he is a guy who looks after himself.
He's a proud man and not here just for a pay cheque.
I think Parker will win but I think it could be a reasonably tough night. Everyone keeps telling me what a chin Parker has... I think we are only two nights away from finding that out for sure as Kali should be able to land enough times to test Parker's chin out.
Hopefully we see better defence and more movement out of Parker.
It's a shame that Duco have rolled out this is Parker's toughest test so many times as now the public don't listen to those cliché lines when this genuinely is.
If Parker loses, New Zealand sports fans will drop him very quickly and I think that will be bad news for all boxers in the country as the sport will drop back off the radar but I can't see it. At least we should get to see Parker pressured.
Presuming Parker wins it will be really interesting to see how the Hamilton opponent is???
