Joseph Parker
Ok so here goes,
In my eyes my Kali is a lose lose fight for Parker in the eyes of the NZ sporting public. If he wins, oh he beat some old man who is 45 years old, cool so he should.
If he loses, he can't even beat a 45 year old man, he must be shit!
But what it should do is make money.
Kali should take Parker some rounds and provide a stern test so that would have been an attraction but with little reward on offer in terms of rankings or respectability you would think Barry would not have given the ok unless he was very confident of victory.
I can't see Kali going down with the first right hand Parker lands.
I know Kali got sparked out by Williams and Walker but Cameron caught him flush (I think may have been around round 8) with what looked to be a similar punch to the one that knocked out Monte Barrett. Kali's head rocked back but he shook it off pretty easily. And look at the punishment he took against Hasim Rachman.
I see this as being a really good fight and although speed and conditioning should see Parker win it will be tough as I see Kali will be up for this is.
As he says, the average NZ sports fan will only know him for what happens on Thursday night. They don't know who is Lamon Brewster is or even know about a title fight, but they know the hype machine that is Parker. Even most boxing fans will only remember him for his most recent fight.
Kali's best days are behind him, he's 45, but he has not been that active in the last seven years so his body has not been flogged and he is a guy who looks after himself.
He's a proud man and not here just for a pay cheque.
I think Parker will win but I think it could be a reasonably tough night. Everyone keeps telling me what a chin Parker has... I think we are only two nights away from finding that out for sure as Kali should be able to land enough times to test Parker's chin out.
Hopefully we see better defence and more movement out of Parker.
It's a shame that Duco have rolled out this is Parker's toughest test so many times as now the public don't listen to those cliché lines when this genuinely is.
If Parker loses, New Zealand sports fans will drop him very quickly and I think that will be bad news for all boxers in the country as the sport will drop back off the radar but I can't see it. At least we should get to see Parker pressured.
Presuming Parker wins it will be really interesting to see how the Hamilton opponent is???

Brown Butterbean got way too far ahead of himself and actually believed he could fight so was more worried about about playing it up in the ring against the Southland bloke and he got caught.
This time around he will take it much more seriously so that makes it interesting but I have a feeling he will still get beaten.
For some weird reason I'm actually interested in watching this. Usually butterbeans fights are a bit of a laugh and when I go to the toilet and fill the fridge.
I don't think its the end of him if he loses again. He's not a boxer he's a character who had done really well by losing so much weight and making people dislike him.
I've meet him away from hyping a fight and he's actually a bloody nice guy that does a stack of good work and should be celebrated for the way he has turned his life around and inspired others to live healthy.
He'll still get by if he continues to call out the local tough guy because he will still be entertaining, doesn't really matter what his record is, he knows how to promote a fight.
The only thing is when Duco take Parker to the states I don't know where that leaves BB then. Maybe one fight a year on the annual Duco card?

Excellent post. Meehan is the opponent because: 1) he'll bring in $$$ due to being from OZ and NZ, 2) He's been there, done that, is a name the NZ public recognises, and 3) He IS Parker's hardest test so far, and Parker needs to fight a big guy who can pop for his development as an elite? fighter.

Prediction: Parker stops him in the middle rounds.

According to boxrec Bowyn Morgan is off the card and Smokin Joe was taken off a while ago so does that just leave

Joseph Parker v Kali Meehan
Jeff Horn v Alfredo Rodolfo Blanco
Izuagbe Ugonoh v Ibrahim Labaran
bb v the southland dude
Wills v Leamy Lakopo Tato

If that's the case only Parker v Kali and BB's fights should be the only ones that are actually competitive.

It's one of the issues I have with Duco. They have good, exciting fighters on their undercard, but they don't match them well, leading to mismatches and un-entertaining fights.

Agree 100%!
Can make for easy money on multibets though.
Is that all the fights or have I missed one?

I guess that's the other thing I don't like about Duco promotions. Too few fights. In their last Fight for Life, they only had 5 fights, with lots of filler and commercials.

Multibets? Parker, Horn, Izu, Willis Meehan, and Kaleni. Go place your bets now, and pick up your winnings after the fight, minus my 10%.

Missed one, Gunnar Jackson v Daniel Roy Maxwell again (6 rounds)

Also, interesting point about what happens to BBB after Duco move JP to the US for fights. BBB does still fight on smaller cards around the country and is a good draw card, but in terms of being a public figure nationally, I can't see how he could stay relevant without Duco actively featuring him. I quite like him so bit of a shame if he fades away

That fight makes it a little better. 6 fights. But I don't understand why Duco doesn't just post the card on their website, and to the media. So, if you're going to the fight, or paying $40 to watch it on SKY, you know what you're getting.

Parker, Meehan ready for heavyweight showdown

WBO #6, WBA #13, WBC #14 heavyweight Joseph Parker (15-0, 13 KOs) will collide with his toughest ring assignment to date when he meets Kali “Mean Hand” Meehan (42-5, 32 KOs) over twelve rounds at The Trust Arena, Auckland, New Zealand on Thursday with WBO, WBA and WBC regional titles up for grabs. Former world title challenger Meehan, at 45 years of age, had one of his best ring performances in November 2014 when he scored a clear ten round points decision over Shane Cameron. Parker, at 23 years of age, is the youngest top ten world rated heavyweight and he is coming off a knockout in round one over former world ranked heavyweight Bowie Tupou in August.

The matchmaker for Duco Events Promotions , Stuart Duncan said, “We are pleased with Joseph Parker’s progress having scored impressive wins over Frans Botha, Brian Minto, Sherman Williams, Ireneu Beato Costa Junior, Jason Pettway, Yakup Saglam and the KO of Bowie Tupou. Kali Meehan has boxed the best heavyweights in the world and always performs well. He was unlucky not to be crowned WBO heavyweight champion when he lost a disputed split decision to Lamont Brewster in 2004. We are expecting a tough fight against Kali.”

Officials for the Parker vs. Meehan are referee Ferlin Marsh, and judges Derek Milham, David Craig and Jeff Nelson.

WBO #7, IBF #12, WBA #13 welterweight Jeff “The Hornet” Horn (11-0, 8 KOs) will be in action against Alfredo Rodolfo Blanco (15-3, 8 KOs) over ten rounds with IBF, WBO, and WBA regional titles on the line. Blanco is coming off a four round knockout over Juan Carlos Cano in August. Blanco, 25 years of age, was born in and resides in Pique, Bueno Aires. Horn is coming off a seven round technical decision over former IBF rated Viktor Plotnykov in August.

Stuart Duncan said “Jeff Horn has displayed world class skills with impressive wins over Robson Assis, Richmond Djarbeng and Viktor Plotnykov, who were all world rated when Horn defeated them. Jeff was an outstanding amateur and represented Australia at the 2012 London Olympics.

Officials for the Horn vs. Blanco are referee Derek Millham, and judges Ian Scott, John Conway and Ferlin Marsh
