RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 01-15-2020

Guess what I'm saying is that Parker is NOT in the driver's seat.  Usyk is.  So making demands is stupid at this stage.  Usyk is ranked in the top 3 in three alphabets.  He could wait for AJ to fight Pulev, and then fight AJ.  He could go over to the WBA and fight Charr for a piece of the title, or he could fight in an eliminator with Whyte for the right to fight the Fury/Wilder winner.  He has a lot more options than Parker.  He's also WBO #1 with Joe being WBO #2.

So what I'm saying is for Mr Higgins and Parker to be reasonable in their demands, and not calling Usyk the B list and giving him 30%.  Just keep your mouth shut and see if you can get Usyk in an eliminator.

its a 6 ft 1 lefty.

Mansour?   Good opponent. https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/23704

way lower. jerry forest. we have been trying o fight him for months which is interesting. the money will be way better than what we have offered id say. nothing fight
I might have been wrong about the opponents but I was right about forgetting the likes of Hunter.
I'm seriously worried about Parker. Seems like Usyk will fight Chisora next. If he wins that I see Parker as a backwards move in terms of profile/money etc. Even if it's a vacant title, I can see Hearn and co paying for the sanctioning fees with a more lucrative option than Parker. If he went up in the rankings so quickly I'm sure Hearn can get the likes of a Whyte up there just as quick. If Del Boy did win he would take a massive UK fight over Parker. So where is Parker going again. Also if Parker fights who Mark says he is next the Kiwi casual fan will lose faith very quickly.
I'm a big fan of Parker but I'm just telling it how I see it

RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 01-15-2020

Parker has had two meaningless fights, and now a third one lined up, with no top ten fighter lined up. That's why I say he should fight a top ten guy now.

Don't see Usyk fighting Chisora, but could be wrong. Chisora is ranked in the top 15 in any of the alphabets. Too risky.

Usyk v Chisora makes way more $$$ than Usyk v.... or sorry my Higgins, Parker v Usyk and we all know $$$ make the world spin

True, if it's money we're talking about. AND, to prove your point about Chisora; I believe Hearn promotes Chisora?, and needs to have Chisora fight someone notable for the $$$. And in the UK...hard to believe Chisora is ranked. He could be half the guys in the top ten if he's on his game.

RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 01-15-2020

My bad. Chisora is ranked in three of the four alphabets, and WBO #8. So it does make sense. Which is the other issue I stated: Usyk has more options than Parker. So his range of opponents and potential $$$ is higher.

Pulev just posted that he is fighting AJ in May

Very likely that means he is vacating WBO

Good news for Parker then.  But I don't see why the WBO can't wait until AJ beats Pulev, and then faces Usyk?  What's the hurry?  It would happen in 2020.  Of course, would love to see Parker/Usyk in a box-off for the title.

RE: Joseph Parker - bart - 01-17-2020

I think it comes down to ego and $$
WBO and IBF (I think) both requested their fights next, whoever wasn't chosen by AJ was going to strip to save face. They want title fights as it generates income.
WBO win in this as they get Usyk possibly a belt to fight in mega fight with AJ later in 2020 $$$$$$.
Just need JP to upset the apple cart and beat Usyk then not fight AJ straight away lol

Joseph Parker 'straight in' against Oleksandr Usyk
Duncan Johnstone

Joseph Parker should finally know his next opponent this week though it's Ukrainian superstar Oleksandr Usyk who continues to excite his camp.

Parker is due to fight in Frisco, just outside Dallas, on February 29.

It's down to three contenders with Matchroom Boxing's United States matchmaker Eric Bottjer and Parker's trainer Kevin Barry sorting out the preferred opponent.

New Zealand heavyweight boxer Joseph Parker won't duck an opportunity to fight Oleksandr Usyk if fate falls his way.
Parker will need a performance to reflect his new WBO ranking of No 2, a position that puts him in line to fight Usyk for the organisation's world title if holder Anthony Joshua vacates under the pressure of too many mandatories now he owns three of the four major belts.

It's a real possibility and a chance Parker would jump at to try to win back his belt and be a two-time champion.

"We would be straight in," Parker's manager David Higgins said of taking on the highly skilled Usyk, a 17-0 southpaw and pound-for-pound star.

"Joseph is the sort of guy who has proven that you can't be fearful of a loss or use politics or record padding.

"It's one of the best fights in the world style-wise. It could be fight of the year … if Parker v Usyk happens it will be fight of the year."

Usyk is an unbeaten and unified cruiserweight champion making the step up to heavyweight and physically would be a good match for Parker.

The 33-year-old 2012 Olympic gold medalist has notable hand speed and movement, skills that took Parker to the top and need to be displayed again in a career that hasn't lacked any flow since losing his belt to Joshua in early 2018.

The Usyk camp has pushed aside talk of a fight with Dereck Chisora saying their aim is to fight next for the world title – either against Joshua or "the highest available opponent designated by the sanctioning body " for a vacant belt which is Parker.

Usyk was in Britain late last week for talks with Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn who conveniently promotes Joshua and Parker.

Parker has looked in good shape on his return to the United States and has welcomed his scheduled fight in Texas.

Higgins wasn't concerned about the late notice around an opponent, something that happened with a last minute switch when Parker beat Australian Alex Leapai in his only fight of  a frustrating 2019.

Parker is two weeks into a training camp in Las Vegas and six weeks out from the fight, his second in a three-fight deal with Matchroom

"Yes, time is getting tight but it (the naming) is very close," Higgins said.

"We are very relaxed. We are comfortable with the names under discussion."
