He's too far into his career to be wrapped up in cotton wool, that's what makes this fight a disgrace. Parker would have beaten this guy in his 2nd or 3rd pro fight.

Well, Joe's career has taken a nose dive from where it was. Another loss and he's toast. He also needs to work on some of his weaknesses (he won't) by fighting guys that pose no threat to him. I think you're given Parker too much credit. He's just not that good, and how he ended up beating Takam and Ruiz, and was competitive? with AJ and Whyte is beyond me. Yes, he has good speed, but not great speed. No real power at the upper levels. Footwork sucks. Jab is average. He DOES have a good chin though. I think the hype, plus his fighting so much in NZ, have really helped him. Hats off to Stu and Mr Higgins for matching him well. I thought he might have even lost to Hughie as it was a close fight.

Until, and unless Joe re-invents himself, he'll struggle against the top 10 fighters.

That all may be true, but we're not asking for Joe to face a top 10 fighter. Joe, as flawed as he may be, is light years ahead of this guy.
Joe needs learning fights, I can't stress it enough. This fight will teach him nothing so what's the point? Seriously? What does Joe gain from this fight? Staying busy? Why not wait longer and stay in training, lose more weight / get in better shape, do more sparring against decent guys, until he can find a semi decent top 20 or 30 opponent?
If he needs to reinvents himself he isn't going to do it in just a few weeks of training is he?

Joe has shown he has no problem with these very low level opponents, so why bother, it makes no sense to me.

Also agree, I won't pay for this one but would like to see it- def not worth PPV
I know fighters-promoters etc have to be paid but would be foolish to ask fans to fork out $40-50 for this.
Take the hit and make the $$ back when Jo steps up again

PPV price is already set at $39.95. Couple of decent fights being talked about on the undercard but whether or not they all happen is another story altogether given they will have a limited budget for it.
Can't see many of the casuals paying to watch this unless than can get an ex-All Black or some kind of circus act to suck them in.

Hmmmmmm.... I think you're going a bit too much by records, Jnr has better wins on his record than the Parker opponent. Even a 42 year Jnr would beat this Mexican roadsweeper with a puffed up record.

Not really. I don't rate Alex. I'm just saying two things: Parker needs an easy opponent after losing two in a row against tough opponents. And secondly, Hemi will have NO trouble with Jnr. And I do think records come into play. You couldn't be TOO good if you've lost 18 and won 3. And Alex DOES have a fantastic record, which is why he's fighting Joe. Puffed up record? Of course.

RE: Joseph Parker - craigyid14 - 10-19-2018

Of coarse it looks good having a 17-1 record but as msreef said earlier, what's the point of this fight? Just to con the paying kiwi public and make duco a little richer???? Hemis fight is to get back in the ring and get used to it. (I don't think the multitrade fight against Lam will happen).

RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 10-19-2018

Hemi and Joe's fights are similar.  Joe needs an easy win, and Hemi the same due to ring rust.  Will be interesting to see if Parker is PPV as I don't think it'll sell, even for $25.  If even I won't pay for it...best chance for Mr Higgins is to cut a deal with SKY where there is no PPV.

As I said earlier, I don't rate Joe that highly, and if he fights a top 20, or even top 50 guy, depending on who it is, he could lose, thereby ending his career as we know it.  Why take the chance?  Have a couple of easy wins, get some help (LL is available) and then fight Chisora in the UK for a half million.  Win that, and he's back in the hunt.  AJ is running out of dance partners after Miller, Whyte, and Wilder, as is Wilder.  This time next year, if he beats Chisora, he could fight for a title again.

Does that not make sense as a plan?

RE: Joseph Parker - craigyid14 - 10-19-2018

There's loads of reasons Joshua and Parker will never fight eachother again, the main two being Joshua is much much better than Parker and the first fight was a stinker.
