I'll say Parker TKO round 6. First thought was earlier but perhaps Bowie's improved fitness buys him a couple extra rounds of ring time.

Golovkin-Lemieux: Jennings Rejects Offer For Ortiz Clash

Posted by: Jake Donovan on 7/31/2015 .

While fans are still overjoyed with the pending middleweight title unification bout between Gennady Golovkin and David Lemieux, the harder task for the moment appears to be piecing together the undercard.

The bout will top what has been suggested as a moderately-priced Pay-Per-View event, live from Madison Square Garden in New York City. The show will also include World flyweight champion Román Gonzalez, as well as a planned heavyweight fight involving unbeaten contender Luis Ortiz.

The hunt is still on for opponents for both fights.

Ortiz was on board for a crossroads bout with perennial Top 10 contender Bryant Jennings, but word hit the wire on Friday that the fight will not happen, at least not under the currently negotiated terms. Jennings’ side—which includes manager James Prince—was displeased with the offer, and have rejected the fight.

“It didn’t work out,” informed Gary Shaw, Jennings’ co-promoter who declined further comment. “James spoke with Jennings; they thought the offer was too low.”

Ortiz’ placement on the card will likely remain secure, as per terms of the agreement between K2 Promotions—Golovkin’s promoter—and Golden Boy Promotions, who handles Lemieux. Both sides are allotted a specific number of slots on the undercard. Golden Boy—who co-promotes Ortiz—plans to showcase the undefeated heavyweight contender, pending a suitable opponent.

For the moment, it won’t be Jennings, whose lone piece of ring action in 2015 came in April. That moment also took place at Madison Square Garden, which has hosted his past three fights. The previously unbeaten Philly boxer dropped a competitive but clear 12-round decision at the hands of World heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, in a bout that served as the most watched cable TV fight in the past nine years, at least until Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez made his return to HBO in the most viewed non-PPV fight of 2015.

Ortiz (22-0-0-2NC, 19KOs) made his ring return this past June following a nine-month suspension due to a failed drug test in his knockout win-turned-No-Contest versus Lateef Kayode last September. The unbeaten Cuban southpaw, who turned 36 in March, scored a 1st round knockout of Byron Polley in a rust-shaker on the undercard of Lemieux’s vacant title winning effort over Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam in Montreal.

Short term plans called for an August 15 appearance in Puerto Rico, which would have aired on UniMas. However, Ortiz was pulled from the card when given the opportunity to fight on the Golovkin-Lemieux card, which will be distributed by HBO PPV.

Parker KO's Tupou in the 6th round. Sham doesn't like the Parker/Klit lovefest. Maybe a threesome including AJ would suit Sham's taste. No need to fight Ortiz. Stay on track. Baby Joseph isn't ready for that yet. Take care of Australasia as planned, then go to the US.

RE: Joseph Parker - shamrock - 08-01-2015

Wrong again Die, Sham is ok with Parker....its just the KB/DL B/S that gives me problems.

Klit said AJ. At this stage I've got to say it certainly looks that way.

RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 08-01-2015

Sham, to be honest, I've only seen AJ fight once, against Kingpin. Kingpin went 12 rounds with Klit. He's a good fighter with an excellent jab. But he only ran from AJ, and AJ did the business on him. Klit rates AJ, so he must be the real deal.

Good to hear that you are OK with Parker. Yeah, I'm not too keen on the hype machine, especially the top 5. But Duco has to sell their product, and I think KB is right in saying that Parker is 18 months away from a title shot "if he keeps winning." I know Mr Higgins, and he's cool. Can't stand Lonergan.

Any undercard action yet? I'm on a train with weak wifi, and can't access live streams...

RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 08-01-2015

Izu won by dramatic second round KO. Next fight was unremarkable, as is the one coming up. After that, I think it's Horn, Butterbean, and Parker.

Travel well, cranky.
