RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 09-14-2017

It was in the WBO contract that there needed to be a neutral ref, but the BBBoC overrode it. If I was Team Parker, I would tell the WBO that Fury is in violation of the WBO rules and pull out. Or, get the WBO to make it a non-title fight. See how Hughie and Peter likes them apples. As others have said, too much is at stake, and the only reason this fight is happening, with it's low ticket sales, is that the WBO made Hughie their mandatory.

Hughies firmed to $2.05 on the Tab.
To win by decision is still $2.75 .. could be worth a bet at that money.
I think that Hughies mud , but the Furys are proving to be world class shysters

And Parker to win by decision at $4 is the interesting price.  Bookies suggesting that's unlikely...

The noise and distractions will amp up now in what will prove to be a bitter last week heading into this title defense.  My concern is that Joseph may be easily offended.. as I have no doubt that insults are about to fly.. in an attempt to get under Joe's skin.

This is a very difficult fight for Joe.. now made much more so with the appointment of a 'home' ref.

It always concerns me when a boxer states he will win by KO as usually this only eventuates when there is a significant gulf between fighters.  Many of Joseph's earlier opponents spring to mind.  It's not the case in this fight.  Hughie possess an awkward, back foot leaning style and moves laterally pretty well with it to boot.. making him difficult to hit.  He will not be stationary for a second.

Yes, Joseph is stronger, faster, more experienced and the current WBO Champ but fights are all about styles, skill sets.  If Joe goes out from the opening round seeking to send Hughie into the third row then, it won't happen.  However, if he sticks to the center of the ring and boxes out the first few rounds he may entice Hughie to engage and throw some bombs of his own.  Then, a Parker KO is possible as his power and speed prevail in the exchanges.

This fight is a real test of Joseph's boxing skills and his boxing maturity and we will certainly know where he's at come Sunday afternoon.

JOSEPH PARKER has vowed to unleash his secret sparring techniques to knock Hughie Fury out when the two go head to head for the WBO title in Manchester next week.

Joseph Parker takes on Hughie Fury in Manchester
The current champion has been training at David Haye’s south London gym, where he took part in a public training session on Monday.

The next day however, the doors were closed to the public as he worked on new techniques during a sparring session that he hopes to use on fight night.

Parker goes into the bout with an unbeaten record (23-0-18) and will look to bring a few surprises to the ring when he takes on number one contender Fury.

The 25-year-old Kiwi said: “Yesterday [Monday] we did a public session where people could come and see us train, sort of watch us on the pads, on the bag, skipping and that sort of thing but today we did a good six rounds of sparring.

“With sparring, no one’s allowed to come and watch us because we are working on different techniques and skills that we want to show on fight night, so it’s going to be a surprise. I’m going to be putting on that pressure.

“I’ve trained hard and when I train hard, I’m going to win. I’m going to knock someone out.”
Parker won the WBO belt in December with a narrow points victory over John Ruiz in his home town of Aukland, New Zealand and has also defended his title once with a unanimous decision against Razvan Cojanu.

Despite receiving criticism for his last two outings, Parker has impressed his host, former WBA Champion Haye, who believes the Kiwi could set up a unification fight with victory in Manchester.

“He’s trimmed up, clearly he’s been eating, sleeping and training and not much else,” said Haye.

“I know what it takes to whip yourself into great condition and he’s obviously been living the life and is a completely different human being than the one who was here 10 weeks ago.

“A win against Hughie Fury in the UK, in Manchester, will be absolutely huge for Joseph Parker and his brand. It really would put his name up there in lights and it would really get the British media calling for unification fights.

“He’s a bit of an unknown, although he’s the champion, he hasn’t sort of been on these shores. He’s popped over from time to time and teased us, but to come over here and show us what he’s got with a spectacular win, that would really put his name up in lights and it would really call for one of the big unification fights with Deontay Wilder or Anthony Joshua.“

Despite the prediction of a big future, Haye also urged Parker to be patient when fighting the ‘awkward’ Fury, who also has an unbeaten record (20-0-10).

“Hughie Fury’s got a very awkward style,” added Haye.

“He has a very under-rated defence and it could sort of pose Joe a few tricks early-doors until he gets to grips with things so it’s all about patience, all about him not getting frustrated in the heat of the battle and keeping a cool head, that’s the best advice I can give.”

Joe has to keep the fight at mid range.

I think up close and from distance Fury will have the advantage in both those areas but at that mid range, where it's all about clean punching, that's all Parker.

Claim the center of the ring and don't get pushed out or drawn forward, imo if he does that the fight is his.

Hughie doesn't infight . He will be trying to keep the fight at long range . If he gets close up he will tie up and hold

RE: Joseph Parker - U.K. Fight Fan - 09-15-2017

Parker won the WBO against Andy Ruiz, an American. Tony Weeks was the ref for that fight, an American. Did Duco or any of you complain then? I doubt it. Where were the WBO guidelines? Nowhere to be found...

Lots of excuse making and worry from Parker's team. Knows he's in a fight.

Thanks for clearing that up for us Hughie. How's the injured spine? (jokes)

RE: Joseph Parker - African Monkey - 09-15-2017

Meh, if Parker is serious about being a contender then he'll put Hughie away regardless of who the ref is.

RE: Joseph Parker - craigyid14 - 09-15-2017

Parkers been saying he's moving to England because the heavyweight scenes so good, I always figured he'd end up in the states but I guess lucrative fights with Bellew and Haye make sense. Both are more than winnable fights. Of coarse he has to get past Hughie first, he will though I'm pretty confident of that.

Ever heard of the term "British stoppage"? I can see this being an absolute robbery and no-one will talk about it because no-one even knows the fight is on.
