Top 15 rankings across all alphabets- Done - without ever fighting a boxer ranked in the top 50 at the time of the fight - yes, that is a miracle.
Top 5 ranking with one- Done - pay yer sanctioning fee and we will see what we can do ;-)
Busy schedule in 2015 with 6 fights- all Patsys and not one represented a challenge.

The smoke and mirrors that is world boxing rankings is a subject not worthy of discussion.  At the end of the day you must master your craft and win your fights.

Has Joseph mastered the craft? Well we ceratinly have not had the pleasure of seeing him fight opponents that could challenge him.
But, from what I've seen he is still very much an apprentice.

Yes, to the layman, those three milestones you mention look impressive but, to me they are an illusion for the points I make.  The emperor 'has no' clothes.

There is no rush.  The goal should not be a title challenge, the goal should be Heavyweight King and Champion of the World.  There is a lot more learning and many more fights
required to achieve that goal.

No, chance nothing when it comes to boxing.  Create realities.

Chance nothing? Yet find opponents that can pressure a young fighter who have a chance to win? Sounds like an oxymoron to me.

There is no rush, but considering an injury can happen in a learning fight or a step up, do you keep making minute increases in opponents or take chances when opportunities present?

If you were the promoter or matchmaker, who would you have tried to lure as an opposition against Parker in his fights following Meehan, and how long would you want to hold him back before a shot towards a belt?

Exactly.

It seems like some boxing fans will never be happy until Jo fights exactly who they want in the exact order they want regardless of financial, logistical and match-making realities.

It always confused me when Bob Jones made the odd comment about how Jo has fought nobodies and then in the very next sentence saying that Duco are rushing him.

RE: Joseph Parker - Boxingfan25 - 03-03-2016

Bob Jones is an idiot. Veritas - Great Post you make some very good valid points. I do worry about Joe's defence and off course your going to look good when your fighting Low Level fighters but that's why I'm looking forward to this Takam fight so much because Parker is either going to Sink or Swin.

RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 03-03-2016

I'm sure KB worries about Parker's defense more than all of us combined. I don't see it as any worse than most of them. Povetkin was easy to hit vs Takam. Browne keeps his hands low. Klit is afraid to engage. Fury got knocked on his bum by Cunningham. Martin is slow. AJ is easy to hit. All of them have weaknesses. Some great match-ups, starting this weekend.

RE: Joseph Parker - shamrock - 03-03-2016

Pretty much agree with Veritas. Haven't seen much yet to convince me JP is worthy of all the hype. Could very well be a setback coming up.

RE: Joseph Parker - mippy - 03-03-2016

Of course Parker could be due for a set back. It's a great fight I think Takam has to be the favourite. Some people will never be satisfied. If he wins Takam will be over the hill, if he loses he was just a pretender.

The truth is Parker has fought similar opposition to everyone else, and has won convincingly every time. Still he's never really been tested. This is the test, it's a tough one and I hope Parker wins

RE: Joseph Parker - shamrock - 03-03-2016

Nobody is hoping Parker will lose but the fight is a worry. AJ is pushed into the pond after his test with Whyte, Jo hasn't been tested yet and yet he's pitched against a veteran with current proven stats. I suggest we allow other opinions on this forum with respect and without the need to shut down or abuse.

Bit of nit-picking here, Meehan was ranked 29 when the fight was signed and 31 when they fought.

Personally I would have gone with

Hammer-Fedosov-Tony Thompson-Takam

These fights would be relatively easy to make (cost wise as Fedosov and TT have been struggling for fights) and would have been a great experience builder for JP, he would have definitely been ready for Takam with these step up fights,

Takam is a sink or swim and nobody knows if Joe will be ready for it because Takam is miles above his best opponent to date

I know its just posturing and marketing but it wasn't long ago Team Parker were defending Joe's level of opponents which had been perceived as too weak by the media and public. They were using the excuse that they were not in a rush for a title shot and Joe had time to develop and the opposition would improve as they worked towards a title shot. Guess what.........the opposition didn't improve in fact it got worse, Bergman would only beat a couple of Joe's previous opponents!!!!

Joe may very well blow Takam out in a round which would prove he is top tier and ready for a shot but he may also get exposed by a guy far better than anyone he has ever fought. How did he go from still developing and not ready to ready by fighting the likes of Tupou, Meehan and especially Martz and Bergman? FFS I don't understand that.

Joe is still young and its a gamble making such a big jump up in class for him. Most guys that jump up that many levels in one fight don't have success tbf.
