RE: Parker vs Whyte - Kiwi - 07-29-2018

He would take 4 years even getting back in contention.

4 years of head-smacks.

He's rich. He's an ex-champ. RETIRE.

Fight as a journeyman/gatekeeper, or retire. I say retire.

Dillian Whyte Survives Near Disaster, Decisions Joseph Parker

O2 Arena, London - Dillian Whyte (24-1, 17 KOs) was able to withstand a huge scare in the final round to win a twelve round unanimous decision over former WBO heavyweight world champion Joseph Parker (24-2, 18 KOs). The scores were 113-112, 115-110 and 114-111.

In his last fight back in March, Parker became the first man to take IBF, IBO, WBO, WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua the full distance. Parker lost a twelve round unanimous decision and his WBO title.

Whyte was in action back in March as well, when he secured a brutal sixth round knockout of previously undefeated and former WBA champion Lucas Browne.

Parker started faster than usual in the first round, throwing a sharp jab. Whyte was mostly landing to the body, with Parker using his jab and landing to the head.

Parker was jabbing and moving in the second, making Whyte miss his counters. Parker was working Whyte over and then a counter shot sent Parker down for the first time in his career at the end of the round. A replay showed a clash of heads sending Parker down, but the referee didn't see it.

A close third as Whyte applied more pressure. Whyte was being very aggressive and making it a very physical fight in the fourth. They were trading some solid punches during the round. Parker was landing the better variety of shots from a distance.

Whyte was swinging very widely in the fifth. Whyte was applying the pressure and making Parker back up. Parker was boxing, but not landing much of substance in the second half of the round.

The sixth round had Whyte coming forward with more of his rough tactics and digging to the body. Parker was backing up and not able to do much. He appeared to be tired as Whyte was trying to maul him. Parker was boxing and landing in the seventh. He was circling and using his jab on Whyte. Whyte was pressing forward and making things close. But in the final minute it appeared that Parker buzzed Whyte and was working him over with a few shots to close.

A battle of jabs at the start of the eight. The pace slowed down a bit. Both boxers looked tired, but Whyte was doing more work and landing more shots.

During the ninth, a huge left hook sent Parker down. Parker got up, looked frustrated and was circling around on the back-foot and looking to play it safe as Whyte was looking to do more damage.

Parker was trying his best to change the tide in the tenth. Whyte was blocking many punches and pressing forward with a jab and landing the harder punches. Parker started well in the first minute of the eleventh. Whyte's harder punches were eventually doing more damage as the round pressed forward, but it was Parker who rocked Whyte with some heavy blows - as for the first time Whyte appeared to be in trouble.

Whyte was once again hurt in twelfth and this time he was rocked bad. Parker was trying to finish him off, but Whtye refused to go down and was fighting back. In the final minute Parker had Whyte badly hurt again and sent him down from a temple shot. He nearly finished Whyte off. But Parker couldn't do it, as Whyte held on for dear life until the final bell.

And just to give Parker's resume another hit, Luis Ortiz just knocked out Razvan Cojanu in 2 rounds.

Shows how idiotic the stuff writers are saying parker doesn't have a granite chin when he took a nuclear bomb flush but got up and recovered very well.

Marquez got knocked down about 10x by pacquiao and he's regarded as having one of the best chins in boxing.

As for what's next, Lucas Browne.

Big trans Tasmania event fight. Do it in aussie in the summer nice outdoor event.

If Parker beats Browne then say a Ustinov he's suddenly back in final eliminator territory.

IT AIN'T THAT BAD

Boxing: Joseph Parker's camp furious about second round headbutt in loss to Dillian Whyte

For Joseph Parker, there are no excuses.

And yet a headbutt from Dillian Whyte in the second round which put Parker on the canvas for the first time in his career is being seen by his camp as a significant mistake from referee Ian John Lewis, who also warned his fellow Englishman about roughhouse tactics at least four times but failed to deduct a point.

Parker was put down twice at the O2 Arena – the first in the second round and the second time in the ninth, the latter with a legal left hook. In the third and fourth rounds he didn't look himself as he struggled to regain the momentum of his early successful efforts, and there is little doubt Lewis could have been stronger on Whyte for pulling down, trying to push through the ropes and pawing with an open glove.

Trainer Kevin Barry said of the round two controversy: "It was a round we were winning. It went from a 10-9 round to us to a 10-8 round to Dillian. I think the effects of that headbutt where shown in rounds three and four. Joe wasn't himself. It wasn't until the fifth round that I believe he got everything going again. He was actually dazed from that. And shocked when he came back to the corner."

United Kingdom judge Steve Gray scored the fight 113-112, Frenchman Christophe Fernandez 115-110 and Australian Phil Austin 114-111.

Parker said: "The advice I was given by the team is that it was a headbutt. It surprised me and then I got back up and carried on.

"There are no bitter feelings from our team. We did our best. I did my best.

"Dillian came forward," he added. "I wouldn't say he was dirty but he roughed me up and did everything he could to get the victory. He showed heart."

Promoter David Higgins revealed Parker talked to him about the headbutt straight after the fight. "He's not one to talk about these things but he said the head behind the ear shook his balance and equilibrium," Higgins said. "To me something didn't seem quite right. There are no excuses. Dillian came in as a bully and was tough. For Joe to hang in there and to nearly win it at the end… we may have won it had we had another minute. It's a bittersweet and brutal sport."

Barry said Whyte should have had several points deducted. "I'm a little pissed actually. I talked to Ian about it before the fight. I said 'look, we're not after any favours. We've had a rough time from the officials but let's make it a fair fight'. I said 'we know this guy is going to punch after the bell and hit Joe in the back of the head – what are you going to do about it?'. He said … 'I'll caution him and take points off him.' I said 'really?'

"We know he's a dirty fighter and those are his tactics. They worked for him. Of course he should have had points deducted – 100 per cent."

Whyte's promoter Eddie Hearn said: "It was a left hook and then a headbutt."

When challenged on it, Whyte was in no doubt it was a legal punch: "You're not cheating me, you're cheating yourself, my friend," he told his questioner.

The drama comes after the controversy of Parker's fight against Joshua in April when the Italian referee refused to let the pair engage on the inside.

"The headbutt was probably a genuine mistake," Higgins said. "In the Joshua fight I think the referee consciously favoured the other side and tried to help him. That's my opinion."

Joe needs to learn from this fight. He should have won but he couldn't handle Whytes mongrel

RE: Parker vs Whyte - Ibeabuchi - 07-29-2018

First of all that commentary team was a disgrace, especially Bellew, who since knocking out the ghost of David Haye has become an insufferable blowhard. It was a very good fight, Joe started off with a nice jab and was landing some nice right hands, he was clearly shook up after that headbutt and Whyte turned it into a real dog fight. Go back turn the commentary off and watch all the illegal stuff Dillian was getting away with. As the fight progressed Whytes body shots were really hurting Joe and that left hook was the shot that put Browne to sleep for 10 minutes so credit to Joe for getting up and clearing his head.
This was a similar to the Takam fight where Joe hit a wall mentally and physically but I think rounds 11 and 12 showed that with a little better execution he would have had Whyte out of there. It also made me wonder why Joshua was so timid against Joe given the amount of Whytes leather he ate.
A much closer fight on rewatch and Joe can hold his head high. The public here wont be kind and already people are calling for him to retire...why? did Tua hang them up after getting his ears boxed off by Byrd? Did Shane give up after being destroyed by David? its boxing folks and we need to get behind the young fellow. I say take a holiday Joe, look at a new trainer/team and rebuild.
That Chisora Takam fight was monumental, nobody has had the balls to fight Takam in a phonebooth and Derek took some hellacious shots and absorbed them to knock Takam into next week, unreal

I just hope we dont' hear in a few years that Joe has a liver issue much like a number of high profile islanders in sport.
