New Zealand would be 'the worst' - Hughie Fury's father on venue for Joseph Parker fight

Peter Fury doesn't want his son fighting in New Zealand.

Hughie Fury's father believes New Zealand would be 'the worst' place for his son to fight Kiwi heavyweight Joseph Parker for the WBO title.

Duco Events won the purse bid for their bout last Saturday, which means they can choose where Parker will defend his world title.

And Fury's father, Peter, who is credited with mentoring Tyson Fury's victory over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, says a fight in New Zealand wouldn't be what the Fury camp wants.

Fury's hometown of Manchester has been touted as a possible venue, but Peter Fury says the fight looks destined to be held in Auckland.

"I haven't really got any vibes with it," Fury told iFL TV of New Zealand.

Joseph Parker's WBO belt gives him bargaining options as his handlers plot a path forward for the New Zealand heavyweight.

"At the moment the worst way is going to be New Zealand, we'd like it to be somewhere else,"

"It all depends where it is going to make the most money I suppose and that's not really my end of it. We will have to see.

"My job is getting Hughie mentally focused for the biggest fight of his life so that's what I'll be doing."

Fury said his son's promoters Frank Warren and Mick Hennessy were expecting an update this week on where Parker would defend his WBO world title against the 22-year-old Brit, with an April date on the cards.

For Parker's future, his handlers would prefer Britain's Anthony Joshua to America's Deontay Wilder for a potential unification bout.

The Kiwi's future as WBO champion continues to grab headlines as the clouded heavyweight division looks to map a path towards one dominant fighter.

Wilder, the WBC champion, has called out Parker saying he wants to fight the Kiwi next.

But Parker's mandatory defence against Fury mean Duco boss David Higgins believes it's more appropriate top continue to try to plunder the lucrative UK scene for now.

There is plenty of water to go under the bridge before any unification bouts can take place – Parker has to get past Fury and Joshua needs to beat former champion Wladimir Klitschko in their fight for the IBF and WBA belts at Wembley in late April.

Higgins has Wilder on his radar but has a preference for Joshua at the moment.

"Joe's stock - assuming he wins - will go through the roof in England, therefore it would make sense for Joe to probably target English opportunities next after Fury," Higgins told Sky Sports in Britain.

"For example, if Joshua won, that would be a better unification because Joe's stocks are high. It looks like we are heading down the UK route at the moment and then once you conquer that, the United States is the next logical step."

A unification fight against Joshua rather than Wilder would certainly mean more money for Parker because of the big Brit's superior profile.

There might also be the temptation to chase Klitschko if the veteran can beat Joshua.

Wilder simmers away as a viable option given the American's eagerness for the fight and willingness to travel anywhere for it.

"I think Wilder will happen, but my gut feeling is it's probably a bit further down the track, but not too far away," Higgins told Sky Sports.

"I think the belts will unify. I wouldn't be surprised if within two years' time there is an undisputed heavyweight champion among the crop we are talking about. One will rise to the top."

Parker (22-0) is in Las Vegas training to take on Fury (20-0).

Fury is the younger cousin of Tyson Fury, the former champion who lost his belts as he battled personal issues late last year.

Parker swooped on his opportunity to win the vacant WBO belt by beating Mexico's Andy Ruiz in Auckland in December.

It would be the worst because he won't be allowed in (Peter) due to his dual convictions.

I dont think they were bad training camps

I think Barry just doesnt want to admit there isnt much of a gap in class between the three of them

It was me who gave those scores Sham.

I cant give wilder any higher than an A- when glass jaws like szpilka are soaking up rounds of punishment before the KO, an A in my opinion is hurts you with every punch.

As for parker, i think hes got to be a B, he doesnt look to have ko power at top level but has fought durable opponents and he hits hard enough to hurt you if you dont have an elite chin.

As far as chin, wilder was knocked down and on queer street from a 12% ko ratio journeyman, smahed to bits by russian cruiserweights in the amateurs and wobbled by szpilka, molina and duhaupas. He hasnt been hit clean yet in the pros but when he is i expect thatll be it for him.

Parker gets hit loads but holds up fairly well (althpugh the guys hitting him none are big punchers)

Admittedly those ratings might move up or down depending on form.

Well what do I know mate? And my eyesight is suspect to be sure. Fell off a ladder at home and still recovering.. still feel Wilder is too strong for Joseph.  As well as wilder is open and wild at times i agree I consider Jo has seemedto fall asleep at times and is vulnerable to a big hitter. In saying that I think AJ KOs them both.

Yes, if Klit wins we start all over.  Unless Klit retires afterwards.

Lewis dodged a rematch and retired instead.  Vitali proved the better man

It's not PPV worthy in the UK, I wouldn't know about New Zealand. Thats not to say that it won't be a good fight but it wouldn't do well on PPV. I agree it's better than AJ vs his cannon fodder but the key ingredient is AJ. He's a PPV fighter in the U.K. Whoever he fights. Parkers only known to the hardcores and Hughie is just known as Tyson's less talented, quiet cousin.
