RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 12-10-2015

I know mippy. Pretty cruel really. The IBF didn't do that to Klit. I don't know why the Fury vs Klit winner couldn't face Glazkov next in a mandatory. What does Glazkov have on the IBF? Unless they are sick of Fury and want to open up the whole heavyweight division...which is what they are doing.

RE: Heavyweight Division - mippy - 12-10-2015

I wonder if it has more to do with not wanting Klit to get the belt back than Fury.

IBF strips Tyson Fury, orders Glazkov and Martin to fight for vacant belt
World heavyweight champion Tyson Fury was stripped of the IBF title on Tuesday for not making a mandatory defense against Czar Glazkov. Fury, who still holds the WBA and WBO titles, will instead face Wladimir Klitschko in a contractually obligated rematch.

The IBF has ordered Glazkov to face Charles Martin for the vacant belt. Martin actually already has a fight scheduled for Saturday against unbeaten Olympian Dominic Breazeale on NBC. A pullout is likely.

Arreola-Kaufmann heats up at PBC presser

As fight night nears, the fighters competing on Saturday’s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on NBC and NBCSN cards held a final press conference Thursday in San Antonio before their respective showdowns at the AT&T Center. The main event pits undefeated star Omar “Panterita” Figueroa takes on former world champion Antonio DeMarco. As expected, the fight between heavyweights Charles Martin and Dominic Breazeale is off after Martin pulled out to fight Czar Glazkov for the vacant IBF title. Televised coverage begins with heavyweights Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola and Travis “My Time” Kauffman, who had a heated exchange when they faced-off Thursday.

Chris Arreola: “I’ve made all of my opportunities and earned them. I’ve made every fight worth my while. Nothing was given to me. Kauffman and I have sparred many times. For him it’s been a paid vacation. I’ve been lazy sometimes and Kauffman knows that. He didn’t have to really work against me. Let’s look at who Kauffman has fought, he’s fought a bunch of nobodies. He’s taken care of those guys, but I wouldn’t even use them for sparring

“I was terrible my last two fights. None of those fights woke me up. I didn’t train hard enough and I blame myself. It showed in my performance. The fact that Kauffman wanted to fight me makes sense. He thinks I’m done and that I party too much. After this Saturday, I’m going to party after I beat him down. This is not a cakewalk, I trained so hard because I know Kauffman is a great fighter. He is not going to make a name with me. I’m the Grinch, I’m going to steal his Christmas.”

Travis Kauffman: “I want to thank everyone for this opportunity. Chris and I go way back. At least 10 years. We were in camp with Hasim Rahman and we are personal friends, but come Saturday night it’s business, there are no friends. Chris has had many opportunities and knocked at the door. But he hasn’t taken advantage of it. This is a huge opportunity and I’m going to take advantage.

“This isn’t an easy test. Chris will not quit. I have to do what no one else has done, and make him quit. We’ve sparred 200 plus rounds, but sparring and fighting are two different things. I’m a different fighter then when we sparred. There are no friends on Saturday. I’m taking care of business. This is my time. I want everyone to watch me get known in this business.”

Also in attendance and participating on the NBCSN portion of the telecast were former world champion “Vicious” Victor Ortiz, San Antonio-prospect Mario Barrios and Omar Figueroa’s brother Brandon Figueroa.

Enzo Maccarinelli knocks out Roy Jones in four
Former cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli (41-7, 33 KOs) scored a brutal fourth round knockout over 46-year-old ring legend Roy Jones Jr. (62-8, 45 KOs) on Saturday night at the VTB Ice Palace in Moscow, Russia. Maccarinelli floored Jones with an uppercut then laid him out face first with his follow up barrage. Time was 1:59.

WBA #7 light heavyweight Stanislav Kashtanov (33-2, 20 KOs) stopped Bernard Donfack (22-14-3, 11 KOs) in round eight.

WBA #7 heavyweight Alexander Ustinov (33-1, 24 KOs) kayoed “The Sandman” Konstantin Airich (22-15-2, 18 KOs) in round five.

WBA #3 middleweight Dmitry Chudinov (17-1-2, 11 KOs) halted Benjamin Simon (26-3, 25 KOs) in round four.

Heavyweight Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (37-4-1, 31 KOs) Travis “My Time” Kauffman (30-2, 22 KOs). Arreola came out aggressively the first round but Kaufman made it a real war dropping Arreola in the third round. Going the distance with Arreola winning a split decision 114-113 for Kaufman and two judges had 114-113 for Arreola.

Jennings vs Ortiz is next week. I heard that Team Parker were interested in Jennings down the line, and Ortiz is the bookies favourite, and it's 2 real top 10 guys fighting each other.
Ortiz is the WBA no.1 challenger, same height as Parker, but heavier with a longer reach and real power.
Jennings got knocked down by Tupou, but has crazy long arms, and went the distance with Klitschko.

If Parker goes the WBA route, he would likely have to go through one of these guys.

Wilder: I’m knocking Szpilka out / Szpilka: You’re done January 16th!
Heavyweight world champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder and bruising Polish challenger Artur Szpilka took time out of their intense training schedules to exchange some words on a media conference call Wednesday before they meet in the ring on Saturday, January 16 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, live on Showtime.

Here is what the fighters had to say Wednesday:

Deontay Wilder: “Don’t get too overwhelmed by the opportunity, Szpilka. You still have to do something with it. Once I knock Szpilka out, I want all the Polish fans to come on the “Bronze Bomber” train as I bring the heavyweight division back to the top. I don’t care who it is. It doesn’t matter who is in the ring with me. I love a fighter who’s not scared because it gives me the motive to knock him out. I don’t play around because I mean business. I’m looking for a grand show. It’s going to be a great performance to kick off 2016. This is going to be a huge year for me. I’m knocking Szpilka out and I’m sending a message to everyone who stands in my way.”

Artur Szpilka: “I hope that you hear loud and clear, I can win this fight. My mind is ready, my body is ready. You’re done January 16. I have everything that a good boxer needs. I’m very confident and I know that this is my time. I have respect for him, but he’s never fought somebody like me. Everybody he fought but Bermane Stiverne was a bum. Only three people have actually tried to fight him. Everybody else had already lost before they got into the ring. I wanted this fight. This is my time. The heavyweight titles are wide open. There’s new blood for boxing.”

Can't wait. Should be a good bit of biff. My head says Wilder will get a decision but my heart always cheers for the underdog.
