RE: Heavyweight Division - craigyid14 - 05-07-2020 Looks like the Whyte fight and Dubois/Joyce are going ahead behind closed doors in England. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/52554099 RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 05-07-2020 Good find, craig, and good fights. Reading the article, looks like the only thing the fighters can touch are the opponents chins. RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 05-07-2020 Tyson offered $1 million to fight in Australia By Ray Wheatley – World of Boxing Former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has been offered $1 million to fight Aussie heavyweights Paul Gallen, Barry Hall or Sonny Bill Williams in Australia by Melbourne-based promoter Brian Amatruda. “I’d hold it at Melbourne Arena where we’d get over 10,000 or even Princes Park where they got 30,000 for Jeff Fenech versus Azumah Nelson,” Amatruda said to Daily Mail. “He might be 53 years old but he’s still a huge name and any of those blokes Hall, Gallen or Sonny Bill would jump at the chance to get into the ring with him. I’d make it part of a card with a world title fight for Tayla (Harris) on it. It would be enormous. Not just a fight, it would be an event!” RE: Heavyweight Division - bart - 05-07-2020 $1 million... is he joking? Even for an exhibition wearing a sumo suit Iron Mike gets 10x that amount I reckon it will be something like the Corrie Sanders exhibits back in the day - few rounds then a Q & A session If you read any comments online people (casuals) believe Mike will fight a couple of lower level fighters then Wilder, Fury and AJ !! RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 05-07-2020 (05-07-2020, 12:48 PM)bart Wrote: $1 million... is he joking? I agree. A million is pocket change for Tyson. My thinking is what SBW will be paid? I think some people are forgetting Tyson's last few fights, where he got owned. RE: Heavyweight Division - bart - 05-07-2020 Sounds like it will be Evander who just announced he is in training for exhibition fights Hopefully they are making sure all safety precautions hate to see legends get hurt RE: Heavyweight Division - bart - 05-07-2020 (05-07-2020, 01:31 PM)diehard Wrote:(05-07-2020, 12:48 PM)bart Wrote: $1 million... is he joking? Yeah Mikes last fights were a shell of himself, he is in a better place mentally now ( just marijuana and not coke drink sex etc). He will only be able to perform like in that short pad clip for a very short period so Evander who never went out of shape will box his ears off (lol) unless they choreograph some bits. People that believe Tyson could be relevant today are delusional - his style was amazing - very high energy and high twitch muscle movements that are only available for a limited amount of time... Mike peaked in his early to mid 20's then deteriorated... he still won fights through power and will and being Iron Mike and fighters being scared. Lennox was the opposite - got better as he matured - just is what it is. RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 05-07-2020 Andy Ruiz joins Team Canelo Former WBA, IBF, WBO heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz officially joined Team Canelo to be trained by Eddy and Chepo Reynoso. Eddy himself published a video on @CaneloTeam Instagram account to welcome Ruiz, who faces a new stage in his career and intends to become world champion again, now with a different training team and in a new setting. Ruiz was rumored to be joining Canelo’s team months ago. In fact, a few weeks ago, the fighter told WBA president Gilberto Jesús Mendoza through an Instagram Live that there were advanced talks. Ruiz surprised the world last year when he knocked out Anthony Joshua and became the first Mexican heavyweight champion in history. But when he came back for a rematch in December, he lost the crown in a performance far beneath the first match. “The Destroyer” admitted that he didn’t train properly for the fight and that that played a big part in his defeat. Now, under Reynoso’s command, he aims to return to the top of boxing and become world champion again. RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 05-08-2020 Klitschko Willing To Help Usyk Prepare For Clash With Chisora Former world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko is willing to help Oleksandr Usyk in any way possible for his upcoming clash with Briton Derek Chisora. Usyk, the former undisputed cruiserweight champion, moved up in weight last October when he stopped late replacement Chazz Witherspoon. He was scheduled to face Chisora later this month in the UK, but their bout was pushed back due to the cornavirus pandemic. There is no word on the new date and location, but the fight could very well take place behind closed doors. Older brother Vitali Klistchko retained the WBC world title in 2012 with a twelve round decision over Chisora. But only moments before the contest began, Chisora spit water in the face of Wladimir when the boxers crossed paths in the ring. Wladimir didn't take the bait and he stayed composed. While Usyk did not look overly impressive against Witherspoon, he's promised to make a far bigger statement with Chisora. Usyk is the WBO's mandatory challenger to unified champion Anthony Joshua. A loss would cost him a very lucrative title shot. "Oleksandr's fight with Derek Chisora will give answers to many questions. Oleksandr is ready for this fight. I always support him. I even worked for him as a sparring partner. We last sparred several months ago," Klitschko told mixsport.pro. "Will there be sparring matches in preparation for the fight with Chisora? Anthropometrically, I do not look much like Derek. But for a warm-up I am always ready to help Oleksandr with great pleasure and absolutely free of charge." RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 05-08-2020 Hamed: Dubois takes over heavyweight boxing Ring legend Prince Naseem Hamed has confidently predicted that 22-year-old Daniel ‘Dynamite’ Dubois will “take over heavyweight boxing”. Speaking on the latest installment of Frank Warren’s Heavyweight Podcast, the Sheffield icon expressed his admiration for promoter Warren’s eye for talent and spoke of the qualities that he believes make Dubois a surefire superstar. “Frank knows how to pick the best fighters,” he said, “and at the moment I think he’s got one in Daniel Dubois who I really think is going to light up the world.” No stranger to a knockout himself, Naz added: “He has that crushing power. I love the way he fights… the way he punches to the body too.” Despite his young age Dubois has already carved out an impressive 14-0 professional record, with 13 KOs to his name, and has a list of boxing luminaries queuing up to praise him. Hamed’s voice joins those of George Foreman, David Haye, Frank Bruno and Larry Holmes, amongst others, who have recently spoken of the potential for greatness in Dubois’ future. ‘Dynamite’ is next scheduled to face domestic rival Joe Joyce in a mouthwatering all-British battle that many see as a stepping stone to world title contention. Hall-of-Fame promoter Frank Warren clearly agrees and earlier this week declared Dubois to be the “best heavyweight prospect on Planet Earth” and sensationally backed him to be victorious in a potential shootout with Deontay Wilder. Prince Naseem wasn’t drawn on that particular match-up but did issue an ominous warning to the heavyweight division as a whole. “I am looking forward to watching Daniel Dubois’ career unfold. For me, I believe he takes over heavyweight boxing.” |
