RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 06-09-2015 Please remind me that Chagaev vs Oquendo is a fight I need to avoid. I agree Dannyboy, if Parker loses badly, TKO or KO, he goes back to the drawing board, and Duco goes scrambling. Hope it doesn't happen. I'd like to see that fight too, with Arreola winning on points, so Browne has to consider fighting Parker for a good payday. Browne will be dodging anything with a pulse though, hoping Chagaev wins both fights so he gets a shot in 6 months or so. The first one looked pretty dire. Danny - Parker won't lose to Saglam. If you watch him on youtube his punching is very inaccurate and wild, and he has trouble putting away tomato cans who don't punch back (Saglam not Parker lol). I'd still like to see Parker fight Meehan, Ustinov and Leapai in the next 5 fights. I think he's too quick for them, and it would give us a good idea of where he's at, without putting him in with a top 30 fighter. RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 06-09-2015 Arreola vs Browne is a bombs away kind of fight I'd love to see. Meehan, Leapai, and Ustinov are fights he needs to avoid, despite their entertainment value. As Dannyboy said, "suppose Parker lost badly." These are fights he could lose badly, to fighters not in the top 20. If you're taking a risk, risk it with a high reward, such as a fighter in the top 10, or even 5. There are several fighters there that could be better match-ups for him than the three above. How about these guys in the WBO where Parker is ranked #8. Not Fury of course, as he'll have a date with Klit soon. But the other 4? 1.Tyson Fury 2. Charles Martin 3. Andy Ruiz 4. Francesco Pianeta 5. Vyacheslav Glazkov RE: Heavyweight Division - gothenaki - 06-09-2015 (06-09-2015, 09:40 PM)diehard Wrote: Arreola vs Browne is a bombs away kind of fight I'd love to see. If you saw the Glazkov "victories" over Cunningham, Rossy and Scott (all recorded more jabs and power punches than Glazkov), you would steer well clear of him. Glazkov is the mandatory for IBF, so Parker is a long way away anyway Charles Martin for sure - he's only fought bums, but he won't fight anyone as risky as Parker while he's got that ridiculous ranking from the WBO and IBF. Andy Ruiz has good hand speed, and has also had a "helpful" decision in his last fight, so I'd avoid him Pianeta is challenging for a "title", so unless he loses badly, he won't go near Parker. Tyson Fury - you're kidding right? RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 06-09-2015 No, I said forget Fury, as he is possibly Klit's next fight. Why not fight Glazkov if he gets outscored (unless you meant his victories were the other way around?) Pianeta is a long way from challenging for a title. Ruiz is also a possibility in the right city. But what I'm saying is that those guys are almost as good as Meehan, Leapai, or Ustinov. If you take the risk, make it count if you win. Ruiz is also a possibility in the right city. Not sure what you mean about Pianeta - he's fighting Chagaev for the WBA "title" that Lucas Browne is meant to fight for and his only loss is to Klitschko (for titles), so he's out of reach for now. Glazkov has "won" a couple of fights when the vast majority have said he lost, so it appears he's protected - that's why I'd avoid him. The Cunningham decision was bad. I'll give you Andy Ruiz, but why would Ruiz take a dangerous fight like Parker? I understand where you're coming from, but I don't think the fights you're talking about are possible for Duco to make. You're talking about risk-reward, but where is that for the fighters you are naming in fighting Parker? Highly ranked fighters don't want to fight dangerous up-and-comers at the risk of hurting their record, and they certainly wouldn't come to NZ risking a hometown decision. Duco have to make the fights they can. Ustinov, Meehan and Leapai are known in NZ and Australia, so would be easy (and profitable) for Duco to promote, and would put their money-where-their-mouth-is where Parker is concerned. Also the WBO rankings are hilarious - they promoted a guy from 7 to 5 - after he died! RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 06-09-2015 My bad. Don't really think of Chagaev as a champ. Forgot he was fighting Pianeta. How about Szplita? as a replacement? No, they will never come down to NZ to fight Parker. They'll have to make the fight in the US as a co-promotion. RE: Heavyweight Division - gothenaki - 06-09-2015 check this out - it's funny http://assets.espn.go.com/boxing/columns/graham/1097210.html RE: Heavyweight Division - Dannyboy - 06-10-2015 Gothenaki... no Parker won't lose to Saglam, or will he lose to any other fighter outside the top 10, or a few in the top 10!! K Meehan is the obvious choice before the years out, but that will only happen if Duco are willing to part with the dosh!! After that, bring on a top 10!! |
