RE: Heavyweight Division - craigyid14 - 10-08-2016 Just watched Dillion Whyte grind out a 10th round stoppage of local rival Ian Lewison for the British heavyweight title, Not a bad fight. RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 10-08-2016 Povetkin-Stiverne headed to Russia World of Boxing won the WBC purse bid to stage the WBC interim heavyweight title fight between Alexander Povetkin vs Bermaine Stiverne with a bid of $3,165,000 today in New York City. The WBC also issued a statement on Povetkin’s drug test that led to the cancellation of a clash between Povetkin and WBC champ Deontay Wilder: …the WBC would like to clarify its August 17, 2016, ruling concerning the adverse result for Meldonium found in Mr. Povetkin’s April 27, 2016, urine sample. Since that ruling, questions have arisen about its meaning. 1. For the avoidance of doubt, the WBC hereby states that the WBC ruling was not intended to convey, and should not be construed as conveying, a conclusion about whether Mr. Povetkin did or did not take Meldonium after it became a banned substance on January 1, 2016. 2. The litigation pending between Wilder and Povetkin is going to trial in February of 2017. If Mr. Wilder prevails at that trial, the WBC shall afford Mr. Povetkin the opportunity to show that the trial’s result was not based on a finding that Mr. Povetkin ingested Meldonium after January 1, 2016. If Mr. Povetkin fails to make that showing the WBC shall: (a) withdraw recognition of Povetkin as Interim World Champion (if he wins that title); (b) withdraw any mandatory challenger status he might have; and © impose any penalties upon Mr. Povetkin as per the WBC Clean Boxing Program Protocol, which includes suspensions and fines. RE: Heavyweight Division - NakiFan - 10-08-2016 RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 10-08-2016 Thanks NakiFan. Here's Ortiz vs Takam article: https://www.boxing247.com/boxing-news/luis-ortiz-carlos-takam/62987 RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 10-08-2016 7’1 Julius Long surprises Bowie Tupou By Ray Wheatley – World of Boxing Giant 7’1 heavyweight Julius “Towering Inferno” Long (18-20, 14 KOs), 283 pounds, outpointed Bowie Tupou (26-5, 18 KOs), 297 pounds, over ten rounds via split decision at Jupiter’s Hotel and Casino, Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia on Friday. Referee Paul Tapley deducted a point from Long in rounds seven and nine for excessive holding. Long outworked Tupou in most of the rounds to win by scores Steve Marshall 95-93, Allan Burford 95-94, Cyril Cairns 92-96. Long captures the WBA Oceana interim title. Long, 39, is based in New Zealand since 2013 and was coming off a loss to Peter Graham but defeated Justin Whitehead in 2016. WBA #5 Lucas Browne and IBF #15 Izu Ogonoh defeated Long in 2015 The former world rated and American-based Tupou was coming off a five round stoppage of Hunter Sam in 2016 but suffered a KO loss to IBF #1, WBO #1 Joseph Parker in 2015. Tupou has been based in Australia since 2013 and was previously based in the USA from 2007 to 2013 where he scored several victories but lost to Bryant Jennings RE: Heavyweight Division - NakiFan - 10-08-2016 How heavy was Tupou when he got skip punched? 297lb seems very heavy for him RE: Heavyweight Division - craigyid14 - 10-08-2016 That really is a great win for big Julius Long.
