RE: Heavyweight Division - justafan - 02-15-2016 Interesting for the AJ v Parker comparisons... I know Duco talk it up but would they really take the Martin fight right now??? RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 02-15-2016 Anthony Joshua beat Joseph Parker to a world heavyweight title shot Young British boxer Anthony Joshua has a chance of what Joseph Parker is aiming for - a shot at a world heavyweight title. Rising British heavyweight Anthony Joshua has got the jump on his Kiwi rival Joseph Parker by securing a world title fight. The unbeaten Joshua will fight American IBF champion Charles Martin at London's O2 Arena on April 9. The fight was confirmed on Monday (NZ time), and comes amid speculation of bouts in the heavyweight division that has opened up following the recent defeat of long-time champion Wladimir Klitschko. Parker and Joshua have been trading taunts via videos and social media. READ MORE:READ MORE: * Parker overpowers Bergman in Samoa * Aussie boxer continues to taunt Parker * Parker to expose Joshua 'myth' But it is the 26-year-old Olympic champion who has got the jump with a title bout. "Fighting for the heavyweight world title has been a dream of mine since I turned professional," Joshua said as the fight was confirmed. "Martin is a great fighter and a hungry competitor so I am going to have to produce the performance of my career to claim that belt." Southpaw Martin has never fought outside the United States but a trip across the Atlantic doesn't daunt him, no doubt helped by a massive pay cheque win, lose or draw. "I'm coming to the UK to make a statement that I am the best heavyweight in the world and no-one is taking my title," Martin, who has 23 wins and a draw, said. "I'm world champion, so that doesn't mean just sit back and make easy defences in the US. It means facing the biggest challenges out there." Joshua is unbeaten over 15 fights and has made no secret of his desire to fight Parker at some stage. Parker is unbeaten over 18 fights with 16 knockouts. Parker's handlers are yet to announce his next opponent for a year where they hope to move him to a mandatory position for a title fight. Parker is ranked No 1 with the WBO, No 6 with the WBA and IBF, and No 11 with the WBA. - Stuff RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 02-15-2016 Duco would take the Martin fight in a heartbeat. That's been their goal, a world title fight. It's just that AJ and UK have more pulling power. RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 02-15-2016 Just read the article. Pleeeeeassssssssssssse. Fury is the recognised champ, much more than Martin. If AJ beats Martin, and he will, a mega-fight with Fury looms. RE: Heavyweight Division - justafan - 02-15-2016 That's what they say but I'm not sure they would have taken it RE: Heavyweight Division - Kiwi - 02-15-2016 Only kiwi knows the truth - and he's not telling. RE: Heavyweight Division - Infern0 - 02-15-2016 Great fight for the division and for the fans, really hard to pick a winner as we still don't know much about Charles Martin! RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 02-15-2016 Kiwi's back! Kiwi's Back! Kiwi's BACK!!! And he said he wasn't coming back??????? Welcome back, Kiwi. Admit it, you're obsessed with us lot. Can't stay away! Welcome back! Pray tell, Kiwi. Tell us your secret from your pal, Lonergan. Please Kiwi! Pretty please??? You and Dean have a secret pact. Break it. Come on, Kiwi, we your buds. Saying that in here is like poking a donkey with a carrot...or something similar. RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 02-15-2016 Well, when you can get Deano to trust you with sensitive secret info by placing a phone call, the world is your oyster. Kiwi is a rare talent! |
