RE: Parker vs Ruiz for WBO - Kiwi - 12-11-2016

Parker likes tall opponents. He likes being the aggressor.

Rematch Ruiz?? Leave it alone!!

RE: Parker vs Ruiz for WBO - diehard - 12-11-2016

I agree kiwi, leave the rematch alone. I felt that Ruiz was just that much better than Takam, but Parker landed the cleaner, harder punches and deserved the win. But the fight was close and could have gone either way. Ruiz can fight, and he exchanged well with Parker. Those punches Parker landed on Ruiz would have stopped most fighters. AJ included? Hard to know. I think Parker does better against taller fighters because they aren't as good as Takam or Ruiz.

Now it's time to hit the big time. Wilder, AJ, Ortiz, Hughie, Miller, etc. Let's see how he fares with them.

Apparently Lance Revill scored it 118-111 to Ruiz ??????

RE: Parker vs Ruiz for WBO - diehard - 12-11-2016

Lance Revill is an asshole:

NZPBA boss claims Andy Ruiz beat Joseph Parker, says "something stinks"

New Zealand Professional Boxing Association president Lance Revill believes Andy Ruiz is right to ask for a rematch.

Speaking on Tony Veitch's radio show, he said he was embarrassed to be a Kiwi after watching Joseph Parker claim the WBO world heavyweight title in a majority decision over the Mexican on Saturday night.

"I know one thing for sure last night, Parker didn't win that fight. And I want to make it clear with everyone else, cut your bulls..., cut saying he's an honorable Samoan/New Zealander, it's bulls....

"He didn't win the fight last night and get real New Zealand because we haven't got a New Zealand heavyweight champion. Ruiz got ripped off last night."

Two of the three officials scored in Parker's favour 115-113 - the other had it a 114 draw - to hand Ruiz a majority decision defeat, the first loss of his 30-fight career.

Ruiz said after the fight that he felt he had dominated large periods of the contest.

"I think I won the fight," Ruiz said.

"I was always on the pace; always controlling the rounds with the jab. I was always pushing him back. I don't think he threw a lot of combinations. I showed I was the faster guy out there but I came here to his hometown. I think the judges were in his favour."

It was a view shared by Revill.

"I scored it 118-111 in favour of Ruiz," he told Veitch.

"Parker had no game-plan. It was a lopsided fight and I feel sorry for Andy Ruiz. Something stinks about this fight, something stinks about the whole set-up. There wasn't a bad word said about Joseph Parker. The whole press is on his side, he's been given a dream ride right through."

As for a potential rematch, there was no rematch clause included in the contract, and the Parker camp are likely to have minimal interest in giving Ruiz another shot when a path towards bigger fights in England can be plotted.

But Ruiz was still holding out hope.

"I'm signed with Bob Arum so hopefully they give me a rematch here or in the United States. I came here to his hometown so maybe he can come to mine and defend it over there on my turf.

"Maybe I could have done a little bit more to win but I'm only 27-years-old so I'll come back stronger."

Ruiz's trainer, Abel Sanchez, who has guided 17 former champions, supported his boxer's call for a rematch.

"I thought we won. I thought we were a couple of rounds up. I was imploring Andy towards the end that I needed the rounds only because I didn't want him to slow down," Sanchez said.

"I thought he won the first four or five rounds and easily won three more of the last seven. I felt Parker maybe got four rounds at the most.

"We're in New Zealand. Everything he did the crowd went crazy - the judges may have been influenced but the judges have the last call. They scored it so we have to take it.

"I told Andy before we came we were two points down because we were in New Zealand and we understood that ... it's just it wasn't two points it was four we were down.

"If he won the first four or five rounds, it's impossible for him to lose the rest of them. It's like Andre Ward and [Sergey] Kovalev that's the kind of decision it seems like."

Parker's trainer, Kevin Barry, was adamant his fighter had done enough to get the win.

"I knew that the longer the fight went, the better it would be for Joe," Barry said.

"I knew Andy would have some moments in the early part of the fight and he did. But once Joe started to control the fight off the outside side and work off the double jab, we were just piling the points on and keeping Andy off balance."

A inspection of the two fighter's faces after the match told a telling tale. Ruiz was bruised and battered, Parker comparatively clear.

"Andy fought a hell of a battle but look at Andy's face ... Joe bashed him up, he's really marked him," Barry said.

RE: Parker vs Ruiz for WBO - NakiFan - 12-11-2016

Watched the 1st 6 rounds again...To be honest it was a little hard concentrating last night with mates around and rum.

Round 1- 10-9 Parker
Round 2- 10-9 Ruiz
Round 3- 10-9 Ruiz
Round 4- 10-9 Parker
Round 5- 10-9 Parker
Round 6- 10-9 Parker

Which put the 115-113 score about right as the last 6 rounds were even in my eyes.
