RE: Parker vs Ruiz for WBO - ChristopherMartin - 12-11-2016

I had it 115-113 Ruiz won 7 rounds at least..no surprise for me...Joes defense let him down again...had some moments but Ruiz was consistent in pressing the fight...controlling the ring...landing more clean shots..rematch warranted..

RE: Parker vs Ruiz for WBO - bopman - 12-11-2016

I had the fight a draw. That altitude training paid off for Ruiz his slow steady pace didn't tire and the fight was there for the taking. Jo on the back foot was still the busier fighter, throwing the jabs and hitting to the body. Ruiz was always dangerous in close but just didn't do enough. I think alot of heavies would struggle with Andy as he is pretty hard to hit, decent chin and a really decent counter puncher. Cudous to Jo for getting in there and getting the job done. Where to from here?

Training wise, keep weight training as it only makes you stronger. Foot work/ dancing and circling. Andy stalked jo down a few times which happens but could have been avoided by better footwork and jabbing.

I didn't get to see the fight as I'm back running and was out early, but had a smile the size of sky tower when I found out. How brilliant for NZ boxing. And the new.........

RE: Parker vs Ruiz for WBO - Veritas - 12-11-2016

Congratulations Joseph and Team Parker!!

My card had Ruiz wining rounds 1-4, 7-8 and 11 with Parker winning 5-6, 9-10 and 12.   Ruiz 115 - 113.  Yeah there were some close rounds that could have gone either way.. and therein lies the benefit of hosting the fight at home.

I don't think many would disagree that the result would have been different if this same fight played out in Mexico or the States.

Parker frustrates the hell out of out me.  He should be so much more complete and polished than he is but, hey he's a Champ now so, he must be doing something right.

Just a quick comment about days gone by..  David Tua, our last contender had Lennox Lewis standing between him and the title - I can't help but feel a little sorry for him that he didn't have the same luck as Joe - but, that's Boxing.

Yeah - Tua beat a bunch of champions but not when they held the belt!! Oh well.

To me, Ruiz is very similar to Takam. Hits harder, though. He is shorter for a HW and has a granite chin. Brawls well. Kind-of a stylistic nightmare - a constant pressure fighter just like Takam is.

These guys Parker should avoid. But the taller guys - he tends to smash them. Go figure.

Ruiz and Takam are several LEVELS above the tall guys parker has fought. That's the key point.

RE: Parker vs Ruiz for WBO - diehard - 12-11-2016

I didn't score it, but I was ok decision wise if it was one point either way or a draw. I thought Joe took the 12th round off, and I thought that was gonna cost him the fight. I thought Joe fought well, just not often enough. Too much time in between punches. Man, both guys have whiskers. Parker can really take a punch, but so can Ruiz.

As Chris said, Parker needs to learn defense, especially keeping his hands low and his chin high on the ropes.

RE: Parker vs Ruiz for WBO - Kiwi - 12-11-2016

Ruiz and Takam are both bad styles for Joe. Haye would be too.

I think we will see him do well with taller fighters consistently. Front foot fighting. Aggressor. Huge difference.

Yeah when Parker is given space he looks a lot better.
