Wonder when AJ will fight a top 10 opponent? It's odd considering that he's a belt holder, and is supposed to be this absolute wrecking ball, but hasn't even fought anyone decent.
Who's he fighting next, for the second defence of his belt? Eric useless Molina. KO'd by Arreola in the first round. Way to go AJ, really setting the world on fire.

When you look at the IBF rankings, who else was available and willing that he could have fought instead of Molina?

RE: Parker vs Ruiz for WBO - Msreef - 11-15-2016

David Haye. Mega fight.

RE: Parker vs Ruiz for WBO - diehard - 11-15-2016

1. Joseph Parker
2. Kubrat Pulev
3. David Haye
4. Johan Duhaupas
5. Andy Ruiz
6. Carlos Takam
7. Vyacheslav Glazkov
8. Eric Molina
9. Jarrell Miller
10. Charles Martin
11. Derek Chisora
12. David Price
13. Hughie Fury
14. Bermane Stiverne
15. Dominic Breazeale

He could have fought Pulev and given him more $$$. He could have fought Miller, who is heaps better than Molina. He could have fought Haye, as Msreef says. Could have fought Ruiz and stolen him away from Parker. Could have fought Hughie for a much bigger fight in the UK than Molina. Instead, he's fighting a guy who got KO'd in one round by Wilder. Next question.

You say Arreola. I say Wilder. You say tomato. I say tomoto. Yep, I meant Arreola. That's even worse! I was trying to be kind...

Joseph Parker prepares to cut Andy Ruiz down to size

Joseph Parker has been working on his speed in Las Vegas.

Kevin Barry believes Joseph Parker is on target to deliver a world title performance despite having to make late adjustments to counter the unexpected threats of Andy Ruiz.

Barry and Parker were tracking a route to the IBF title against the massive Anthony Joshua before the door swung open to target the WBO heavyweight belt and a title fight against the shorter Ruiz.

The uncertainty of that direction in the immediate aftermath to Parker's impressive win over giant Russian Alexander Dimitrenko last month left Parker in limbo in terms of specific skill work.

But he has rapidly caught up and Barry likes where the 24-year-old is placed a month out from the WBO title fight in Auckland.

"We had two training camps with tall guys and all of my skill work with Joe had been geared towards tall guys and getting in and closing the distance against a tall guy. Then all of a sudden this opportunity presented itself and we had to rethink in a hurry for our training camp. There has been an adjustment," Barry said in Las Vegas as Parker buried himself into his work.

"We have a month to go before the fight and I like the position we're at at the moment. We're on target to be peaking on December 10."

Barry believes the busy schedule they have had Parker on will prove a blessing for this fight.

While Mexican Ruiz is in the Californian mountains about three hours away, rushing to lose weight and also work on his fight game, Parker's perpetual fitness allows more focus on sparring and fight specifics.

"Obviously from start to finish it's a seven-week training camp and when you're preparing for a world heavyweight title fight, it doesn't sound like a lot of time," Barry said.

"But we've gone back-to-back all year with only a short downtime between fights, with a maximum of two weeks downtime between camps. So because of that Joe has got a very good base fitness. Every time he comes back into camp he's ready to go.

"We're fighting him five times a year; he's practically living here in camp. In fact the last few years he's spent nine months of the year in Vegas and three months at home with his family. One camp has literally moved into the next camp."

Parker looked sharp as he started another week of training on Tuesday (NZ time).

"We're in the sparring phase. We've got four more sparring sessions here in Vegas before we leave. We'll probably have four 10s (rounds). I may throw a 12 in there."

Barry suggested he may even change up Parker's routine in New Zealand a bit by adding some short sparring there to keep him on his game.

"I'm thinking about doing a couple of sparring sessions in New Zealand the first week back. They will be four rounds, or maybe a four and a six,  just to keep things ticking over.

"We're feeling very good the way things are falling into place at the moment.

"It's up to me and Joe that the guy that turns up is the very best because I need the very best Joseph Parker there has ever been if we are to beat Andy Ruiz."

RE: Parker vs Ruiz for WBO - Dannyboy - 11-15-2016

Hhhmmmm... I don't think Jo's fitness can ever be questioned, we all know he trains hard and doesn't take short cuts. But that doesn't mean nothing unless you understand your opponent and know how to pace yourself. We saw Jo start to blow in about the 4th round against Takem, this is because he didn't understand the intensity Takam was going to bring to the fight. And I guarantee it will be the same with Ruiz!!

Ruiz is a seasoned fighter with over 100 amateur fights. He knows what its like to go the distance, especially against taller guys. He uses his speed and timing to catch his opponents, and put pressure on them.

I hope KB is teaching him how to counter this, cause as some of us know on here, experience and time in the ring is the best way to fight a guy like this.

This will be a really tough fight for both guys... definitely one of the fights of the year (potentially).

RE: Parker vs Ruiz for WBO - diehard - 11-15-2016

Dannyboy, I'm gonna disagree with you at my own peril. I see Ruiz as an easy fight. I think his power and hand speed are over-rated, and he really hasn't fought anybody. He looked ordinary against Lawrence, and he has, or had weight and stamina problems. He's also fairly easy to hit. He DOES know how to fight, and if Joe gets into too many exchanges with him, he could be in trouble.

I see this going the way of the Bowie Tupou fight, but many more rounds. Joe will jab and beat him up throughout the fight, and catch a couple in return.

My only concern is if Ruiz becomes a different fighter with the lost weight. A fighter who puts much more pressure on his opponent and let's his hands go throughout the fight.

I hope Joe doesn't read this, as he cannot come into this fight over-confident. I can though. If I'm wrong, I'll be the first to admit it after the fight.
