RE: Parker vs Ruiz for WBO - Infern0 - 11-05-2016

I hope the fights really close with most thinking parker won by a couple of rounds.

Then...

We have a split decision

115-113 parker

116-112 ruiz

118-110 for the winner by split decision and the new wbo heavyweight champion....

From California USA andy ruiiiiiiiiiiiz junioooooooor

Then tight ass Duco and auckland city council become the most hated people in nz

But maybe it is for the best for this fight to go to the USA.

Big future there if JP can get a fanbase in Vegas.

Jo keeps winning kiwi he should easily build up a fanbase where ever

Joseph Parker's Las Vegas press conference to promote Auckland world title fight cancelled

New Zealand heavyweight boxer Joseph Parker and his promoter Dean Lonergan should have been talking up a world title fight in Auckland against Andy Ruiz at a media conference in Las Vegas on Sunday.

Auckland has just felt the first cost of their decision to withdraw funding from Joseph Parker's planned world title fight with a high profile media conference in Las Vegas cancelled.

Confirmation of the WBO title fight details between Parker and Mexico's Andy Ruiz were set to be announced in Las Vegas on Sunday (NZ time).

Dean Lonergan, co-owner of Duco Vvents who back Parker and are looking to stage the fight in Auckland on December 10, confirmed to Fairfax that the Vegas media conference wouldn't be happening now, following the late decision by Auckland council's promotional arm Ateed to withdraw hundreds of thousands of dollars at the last minute.

And Ruiz's promoter Bob Arum has confirmed that through ESPN on Saturday, saying the press conference wouldnt' happen "while Parker's team works out the final details of its site deal".

Vegas is hosting the best boxing writers in the world this weekend, gathered to watch Manny Pacquiao battle Jessie Vargas for the WBO welterweight title.

There were plans to have Parker and Ruiz present, with Parker sure to have talked up the opportunity to fight for a historic world title in New Zealand and giving Auckland, his home, plenty of plugs.

Lonergan and his team are still battling to make that happen, holding urgent meetings this weekend to try to make up the shortfall of the lost funding from Ateed.

They had the necessary finances to make the fight happen in Auckland, only to dealt an unexpected hammer blow by Ateed late on Thursday, who informed them that their funding was being pulled.

Clearly political pressure has intervened with a new council installed under mayor Phil Goff.

Delays in boxing are nothing new but this latest setback is an embarrassment for New Zealand when the details of the fight were about to gain maximum exposure through the eyes of the global fight media.

Duco are fortunate to have a co-operative partner in the powerful Arum who appears to be giving them every opportunity to make this fight happen in New Zealand.

But he is poised to take over hosting the fight if needed, a move that would seriously disadvantage Parker who would have to fight Ruiz in front of a largely Hispanic audience at an American venue.

Arum would also delay the timing of the fight till January, allowing Ruiz, a notoriously slow trainer, more time to get into shape.

Duco believe they will have to give Arum an answer by early next week as the clock ticks away.

Parker and his trainer Kevin Barry continue to prepare at their Las Vegas base while the venue details are ironed out. Ruiz is training in California.

Parker will attend the Pacquiao v Vargas fight.
